Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is considered the most common liver disorder, affecting around 25% of the population worldwide. It is a complex disease spectrum, closely linked with other conditions such as obesity, insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes mellitus, and metabolic syndrome, which may increase liver-related mortality. In light of this, numerous efforts have been carried out in recent years in order to clarify its pathogenesis and create new prevention strategies. Currently, the essential role of environmental pollutants in NAFLD development is recognized. Particularly, endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) have a notable influence. EDCs can be classified as natural (phytoestrogens, genistein, and coumestrol) or synthetic, and the latter ones can be further subdivided into industrial (dioxins, polychlorinated biphenyls, and alkylphenols), agricultural (pesticides, insecticides, herbicides, and fungicides), residential (phthalates, polybrominated biphenyls, and bisphenol A), and pharmaceutical (parabens). Several experimental models have proposed a mechanism involving this group of substances with the disruption of hepatic metabolism, which promotes NAFLD. These include an imbalance between lipid influx/efflux in the liver, mitochondrial dysfunction, liver inflammation, and epigenetic reprogramming. It can be concluded that exposure to EDCs might play a crucial role in NAFLD initiation and evolution. However, further investigations supporting these effects in humans are required.  相似文献

Portlandite (Ca(OH)2; also known as calcium hydroxide or hydrated lime), an archetypal alkaline solid, interacts with carbon dioxide (CO2) via a classic acid–base “carbonation” reaction to produce a salt (calcium carbonate: CaCO3) that functions as a low-carbon cementation agent, and water. Herein, we revisit the effects of reaction temperature, relative humidity (RH), and CO2 concentration on the carbonation of portlandite in the form of finely divided particulates and compacted monoliths. Special focus is paid to uncover the influences of the moisture state (i.e., the presence of adsorbed and/or liquid water), moisture content and the surface area-to-volume ratio (sa/v, mm−1) of reactants on the extent of carbonation. In general, increasing RH more significantly impacts the rate and thermodynamics of carbonation reactions, leading to high(er) conversion regardless of prior exposure history. This mitigated the effects (if any) of allegedly denser, less porous carbonate surface layers formed at lower RH. In monolithic compacts, microstructural (i.e., mass-transfer) constraints particularly hindered the progress of carbonation due to pore blocking by liquid water in compacts with limited surface area to volume ratios. These mechanistic insights into portlandite's carbonation inform processing routes for the production of cementation agents that seek to utilize CO2 borne in dilute (≤30 mol%) post-combustion flue gas streams.  相似文献

The development of efficient filters is an essential part of industrial machinery design, specifically to increase the lifespan of a machine. In the filter chamber design considered in this study, the magnetic material is placed along the horizontal surface of the filter chamber. The inside of the filter chamber is layered with a porous material to restrict the outflow of unwanted particles. This study aims to investigate the flow, pressure, and heat distribution in a dilating or contracting filter chamber with two outlets driven by injection through a permeable surface. The proposed model of the fluid dynamics within the filter chamber follows the conservation equations in the form of partial differential equations. The model equations are further reduced to a steady case through Lie's symmetry group of transformation. They are then solved using a multivariate spectral-based quasilinearization method on the Chebyshev–Gauss–Lobatto nodes. Insights and analyses of the thermophysical parameters that drive optimal outflow during the filtration process are provided through the graphs of the numerical solutions of the differential equations. We find, among other results, that expansion of the filter chamber leads to an overall decrease in internal pressure and an increase in heat distribution inside the filter chamber. The results also show that shrinking the filter chamber increases the internal momentum inside the filter, which leads to more outflow of filtrates.  相似文献

Recent research on mast cell biology has turned its focus on MRGPRX2, a new member of the Mas-related G protein-coupled subfamily of receptors (Mrgprs), originally described in nociceptive neurons of the dorsal root ganglia. MRGPRX2, a member of this group, is present not only in neurons but also in mast cells (MCs), specifically, and potentially in other cells of the immune system, such as basophils and eosinophils. As emerging new functions for this receptor are studied, a variety of both natural and pharmacologic ligands are being uncovered, linked to the ability to induce receptor-mediated MC activation and degranulation. The diversity of these ligands, characterized in their human, mice, or rat homologues, seems to match that of the receptor’s interactions. Natural ligands include host defense peptides, basic molecules, and key neuropeptides such as substance P and vasointestinal peptide (known for their role in the transmission of pain and itch) as well as eosinophil granule-derived proteins. Exogenous ligands include MC secretagogues such as compound 48/80 and mastoparan, a component of bee wasp venom, and several peptidergic drugs, among which are members of the quinolone family, neuromuscular blocking agents, morphine, and vancomycin. These discoveries shed light on its capacity as a multifaceted participant in naturally occurring responses within immunity and neural stimulus perception, as in responses at the center of immune pathology. In host defense, the mice Mrgprb2 has been proven to aid mast cells in the detection of peptidic molecules from bacteria and in the release of peptides with antimicrobial activities and other immune mediators. There are several potential actions described for it in tissue homeostasis and repair. In the realm of pathologic response, there is evidence to suggest that this receptor is also involved in chronic inflammation. Furthermore, MRGPRX2 has been linked to the pathophysiology of non-IgE-mediated immediate hypersensitivity drug reactions. Different studies have shown its possible role in other allergic diseases as well, such as asthma, atopic dermatitis, contact dermatitis, and chronic spontaneous urticaria. In this review, we sought to cover its function in physiologic processes and responses, as well as in allergic and nonallergic immune disease.  相似文献

This study investigates the preparation of polyetherimide (PEI) – LaNi5 composites films for hydrogen storage. Prior to the polymer addition, LaNi5 was ball-milled at different conditions (250, 350, and 450 RPM) and annealed at 500 °C for 1 h under vacuum. The composites were produced with BM-LaNi5-350 (PEI/LaNi5-350) and annealed BM-LaNi5-350 (PEI/LaNi5-350-TT). Membranes were successfully produced through solvent casting assisted by an ultrasonic bath. The particles dispersion and the film morphology did not change after hydrogenation cycles. In the H2 sorption experiments at 43 °C and 20 bar, the films stored H2 without incubation time; both samples reached a capacity of ~0.6 wt%. The H2 sorption kinetics of PEI/LaNi5-350 was comparable to that of BM-LaNi5-350, whereas PEI/LaNi5-350-TT presented significantly slower kinetics. LaNi5 oxidation was hindered by PEI, showing that it can be explored to improve metal hydrides air resistance. The results demonstrated that PEI films filled with LaNi5 are promising materials for hydrogen storage.  相似文献

The application of fibers associated with drugs is a promising alternative to meet the clinical needs of tissue repair. Curcumin exhibits great cicatricial potential because it has numerous pharmacological properties. This research aimed to produce fibers of polycaprolactone and copolymer F-108 associated with curcumin and to evaluate in vivo their action on the process of wound healing. The fibers were produced by electrospinning technique and characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffractometry (XRD), and fluorescence microscopy. They were applied in cutaneous wounds of rats for the analysis of photoacoustic permeation and histological study. The characterization showed that the electrospinning allowed the preparation of homogeneous material with curcumin. The fibers benefited healing of the wounds and allowed the permeation of curcumin at all stages. The use of PCL/F-108 fibers allowed the elaboration of a new curcumin delivery system, improving its bioavailability and action in the healing of excisional wound. © 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. This article reviews the recent advances in the development of zeolite catalysts for biomass valorization processes to produce both biofuels and/or bio-based chemicals, which is an emerging and fast expanding field. The work deals with different types of feedstocks, including vegetable oils, lignocellulose and sugars, as well as with a number of relevant intermediates and platform molecules. Transformation of biomass into valuable products is hindered by a number of factors, mainly related to its complex composition, as biomass typically consists of bulky molecules with high oxygen content. Accordingly, biomass processing usually requires the combination of multiple steps and severe conditions, hence concepts like atom efficiency, product selectivity, and catalyst deactivation become of special relevance. A great progress has been achieved in the past years engineering the properties of zeolites for being adapted to the challenges associated to biomass valorization. The possibility of tailoring the main physicochemical properties of zeolites has become now a reality, being the major reason that explains the success achieved by this class of materials in a growing variety of biomass conversion pathways, as those described in this work: catalytic cracking and pyrolysis, hydrotreatments, with special relevance for hydrodeoxygenation processes, as well as in a high number of condensation, isomerization, and dehydration reactions. Thus, the development of hierarchical zeolites, exhibiting enhanced accessibility, and the possibility of introducing and combining in a controlled way different types of active sites (Brønsted and Lewis acid centers, basic sites, and metal phases) are the main basis of the excellent performance of zeolites in numerous biomass conversion routes.  相似文献

The potential use of stem cell-based therapies for the repair and regeneration of various tissues and organs is a major goal in repair medicine. Stem cells are classified by their potential to differentiate into functional cells. Compared with other sources, adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) have the advantage of being abundant and easy to obtain. ADSCs are considered to be tools for replacing, repairing, and regenerating dead or damaged cells. The capacity of ADSCs to maintain their properties depends on the balance of complex signals in their microenvironment. Their properties and the associated outcomes are in part regulated by reactive oxygen species, which mediate the oxidation-reduction state of cells as a secondary messenger. ADSC therapy has demonstrated beneficial effects, suggesting that secreted factors may provide protection. There is evidence that ADSCs secrete a number of cytokines, growth factors, and antioxidant factors into their microenvironment, thus regulating intracellular signaling pathways in neighboring cells. In this review, we introduce the roles of ADSCs in the protection of cells by modulating inflammation and immunity, and we develop their potential therapeutic properties.  相似文献
