A particle method has been used to simulate the vorticity transport in a two-dimensional flow of an incompressible inviscid fluid. In this method, not only the location and the circulation of the particle are used but also the moments of the internal vorticity. The transport equation for these moments has been derived from the vorticity transport equation. The method has been compared to the usual particle method as well as to Teng's elliptic vortex model. Friction factors of square arrays of roughened pins in smooth channels have been measured for a range of pin pitch to diameter ratios and roughness heights and for different sizes of array. The influence of the smooth channel has been removed in two ways; by extrapolating the results for a fixed pitch-to-diameter ratio to an infinite number of pins and by calculation from the finite array results. The resultant friction factors are compared with each other and with data obtained by testing single pins in smooth circular channels and transforming by various methods to the fully rough situation.  相似文献

The flow between corotating compressor or turbine discs and the flow between a turbine disc and an adjacent stationary casing can be respectively modelled by a rotating cavity and by a rotor-stator system. This paper reviews some of the recent experimental and theoretical work on flow and heat transfer in these two classes of rotating-disc systems. Comparisons between the theoretical and measured distributions of velocity, pressure, and Nusselt numbers are made for the rotating cavity with a superimposed radial flow of cooling air. For the rotor-stator system, some recent work on the fluid dynamics is outlined, and particular mention is made of the so-called “ingress problem” and of the use of pre-swirl air to improve the blade-cooling effectiveness.  相似文献

In the light of a new interpretation, we have studied the end effects for highly elastic-constant viscosity fluids commonly called Boger fluids. In terms of entrance effect only, the presence of primary normal-stress differences in absence of shear-thinning properties results in a decrease of the entrance correction below the Couette (Newtonian) value, whereas the total end correction can be substantially increased by an amount which is strongly dependent on the Weissenberg number or recoverable shear.  相似文献

The present analysis relates to the study of the full two-dimensional Brinkman equation representing the fluid flow through porous medium. The steady, incompressible fluid flow, with a negligible gravitational force, is constrained to flow in an infinitely long channel in which the height assumes a series of piecewise constant values. The control volume method is used to solve the Brinkman equation which involves the parameter, =/Da, where Da is the Darcy number and is the ratio of the fluid viscosity f to the effective viscosity . An analytical study in the fully developed section of the composite channel is presented when the channel is of constant height and composed of several layers of porous media, each of uniform porosity. In the fully developed flow regime the analytical and numerical solutions are graphically indistinguishable. A geometrical configuration involving several discontinuities of channel height, and where the entry and exit sections are layered, is considered and the effect of different permeabilities is demonstrated. Further, numerical investigations are performed to evaluate the behaviour of fluid flow through regions which mathematically model some geological structures of various sizes, positions and permeability, for example a fault or a fracture, where the outlet channel is offset at different levels. The effect on the overall pressure gradient is also considered.  相似文献

A fluid flow and heat transfer model has been developed for the reactive, porous bed of the biomass gasifier to simulate pressure drop, temperature profile in the bed and flow rates. The conservation equations, momentum equation and energy equation are used to describe fluid and heat transport in porous gasifier bed. The model accounted for drag at wall, and the effect of radial as well as axial variation in bed porosity to predict pressure drop in bed. Heat transfer has been modeled using effective thermal conductivity approach. Model predictions are validated against the experiments, while effective thermal conductivity values are tested qualitatively using models available in literature. Parametric analysis has been carried out to investigate the effect of various parameters on bed temperature profile and pressure drop through the gasifier. The temperature profile is found to be very sensitive to gas flow rate, and heat generation in oxidation zone, while high bed temperature, gas flow rate and the reduction in feedstock particle size are found to cause a marked increase in pressure drop through the gasifier. The temperatures of the down stream zones are more sensitive to any change in heat generation in the bed as compared to upstream zone. Author recommends that the size of preheating zone may be extended up to pyrolysis zone in order to enhance preheating of input air, while thermal insulation should not be less than 15 cm.  相似文献

A second-order asymptotic expression for the profile of a capillary-gravity wave traveling over the charged surface of an ideal incompressible fluid is calculated analytically. Two types of steady-state profiles of nonlinear periodic capillary-gravity waves are found. For a certain fixed dimensionless surface charge the shape of the tops of the nonlinear waves changes: from blunt to pointed for short waves and from pointed to blunt for long waves.  相似文献

Computational and experimental studies of the fluid motion and heat transfer characteristics of an incompressible fluid contained in a non-rectangular inclined enclosure are described in this paper. The enclosure has two 45° inclined side walls one of which was heated and the other cooled. The remaining two sides of the enclosure are parallel and insulated. The enclosure was rotated about the long axis in steps of 30° through 360°. Experiments were performed to study the effects of Rayleigh number, aspect ratios and orientation of the enclosure. The computational method uses a mesh transformation technique coupled with the introduction of ‘false transient’ parameters for the steady state solution of the problem. The experimental method uses smoke for flow visualization studies. With aspect ratios of 3 and 6, the results indicate that the heat transfer and fluid motion within the enclosure is a strong function of both the Rayleigh number and the cavity orientation angle. A minimum and a maximum mean Nusselt number occurred as the angle of inclination was increased from 0 to 360°. A transition in the mode of circulation occurred at the angle corresponding to the minimum or maximum rate of heat transfer.
