The problem of subspace estimation using multivariate nonparametric statistics is addressed. We introduce new high-resolution direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation methods that have almost optimal performance in nominal conditions and are robust in the face of heavy-tailed noise. The extensions of the techniques for the case of coherent sources are considered as well. The proposed techniques are based on spatial sign and rank concepts. We show that spatial sign and rank covariance matrices can be used to obtain convergent estimates of the signal and noise subspaces. In the proofs, the noise is assumed to be spherically symmetric. Moreover, we illustrate how the number of signals may be determined using the proposed covariance matrix estimates and a robust estimator of variance. The performance of the algorithms is studied using simulations in a variety of noise conditions including noise that is not spherically symmetric. The results show that the algorithms perform near optimally in the case of Gaussian noise and highly reliably if the noise is non-Gaussian  相似文献

The fermentation of maltose and maltotriose in metal-free buffer solutions strongly depends on the pH value; the optimum pH is close to 5·0 and activity diminishes to zero above pH 7·2. Potassium stimulates utilization of these sugars at pH values of 5·0 and below, but in contrast to the situation with glucose, pH still influences fermentation markedly in the presence of potassium. Both pH and potassium influence sugar uptake rather than internal metabolism. Zinc, magnesium and ammonium ions stimulate utilization of both sugars by stimulating uptake mechanisms.  相似文献

All patients with total hip arthroplasty (THA) are exposed to soluble or particulate forms of Co and Cr. Adverse effects of these wear products are not known. Data from Nordic registries is used to estimate adverse effects on a large scale, based mostly on metal-on-polyethylene bearings. Cancer incidence was in line with the general population when the patients were operated on for all indications and significantly decreased when the indication was primary osteoarthritis. Stomach cancer and colorectal cancers were significantly reduced and prostate cancer and skin melanoma significantly increased. There was no significant excess of cancer in target organs, i.e. liver, kidney, or haematopoietic cancers. THA patients had reduced mortality and extended life expectancy compared with standard Nordic populations. All-site cancer incidence of the first-generation metal-on-metal McKee-Farrar patients operated on for primary osteoarthritis was in line with the general population after follow-up for up to 28 years. General mortality of these patients was also reduced and they also had an extended life expectancy. Temporary increases in haematopoietic cancers at different follow-up periods were seen in some cohorts. This malignancy deserves a special record linkage monitoring while large numbers of young patients are provided with the second generation of metal-on-metal prostheses.  相似文献

Since the development of the ruby laser by Maiman in 1960, there has been great interest among dental practitioners, scientists, and patients to use this tool to make dental treatment more pleasant. Oral soft tissue uses are becoming more common in dental offices. The possible multiple uses of lasers in dentistry, beyond soft tissue surgery and dental composite curing, unfortunately, have not yet been realized clinically. These include replacement of the dental drill with a laser, laser dental decay prevention, and laser decay detection. The essential question is whether a laser can provide equal or improved treatment over conventional care. Safe use of lasers also must be the underlying goal of proposed or future laser therapy. With the availability and future development of different laser wavelengths and methods of pulsing, much interest is developing in this growing field. This article reviews the role of lasers in dentistry since the early 1960s, summarizes some research reports from the last few years, and proposes what the authors feel the future may hold for lasers in dentistry.  相似文献
