Metallic cobalt nanoparticles were synthesized by hydrogen reduction method. Particles were coated in situ with carbon by adding ethene to reaction flow. Particles were characterized by transmission electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray emission, X-ray diffraction, X-ray fluorescence and BET method. The observed cobalt particle size distributions in different cobalt batches produced with unvarying reaction parameters was reproducible: The mean diameter of primary cobalt particle varied only 5% from the mean value of 76 nm in different batches. Increased carbon precursor concentration decreased mean diameter of cobalt particles to 17 nm. The produced nanoparticles were used as filler material in 0–3 type metalpolymer composites. Composite samples with varying filler loading were fabricated with mixing extrusion and injection moulding techniques. The magnetic properties of the fabricated composites were measured up to 1 GHz. In order to analyse the particle distribution in composite matrix and its effect on magnetic properties the microstructure was studied.  相似文献

Serous carcinomas of the fallopian tube, uterus, and ovary resemble each other both histologically and in clinical behavior. Comparative genomic hybridization was performed on 20 primary fallopian tube carcinoma specimens to find regions of the genome involved in tubal carcinogenesis and to compare the genomic alterations with those previously detected in serous ovarian and uterine carcinomas. The most frequent changes detected in fallopian tube carcinoma were gains at 3q (70%) and 8q (75%), with high-level amplifications in several cases. Other common gains occurred at 1q, 5p, 7q, 12p, and 20q. The most frequent losses were found at 18q, 8p, 4q, and 5q. The frequency and the pattern of chromosomal changes detected in tubal carcinoma were strikingly similar to those observed in serous ovarian and uterine carcinomas, suggesting common molecular pathogenesis.  相似文献

Germ-line mutations in the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes confer a predisposition to breast as well as ovarian carcinoma. Except for loss of the respective wild-type allele, somatic genetic changes needed for the progression of inherited ovarian tumors are unknown. A genome-wide search for such alterations was performed by comparative genomic hybridization analysis on BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutation-positive (n = 20) ovarian carcinoma specimens. Comparison with sporadic ovarian carcinomas (n = 20) revealed extensive genetic similarity between the inherited and sporadic carcinomas with the sole exception of a frequent gain of 2q24-q32 in the inherited group, suggesting the presence of an oncogene at 2q24-q32 operating in the absence of BRCA1 function. The overall similarity of gains and losses by comparative genomic hybridization suggests a common main pathway in tumor progression of both inherited and sporadic ovarian carcinomas.  相似文献

Appraisal theories of emotion predict that the relevance of a stimulus to a person's needs and goals influences attentional allocation. We used a modified visual probe task to examine the influence of hunger and trait reward drive on food-related attentional bias. Both hunger and trait reward drive predicted degree of attentional “disengagement” from food images at short (100 ms), but not long (500, 2,000 ms) stimulus durations. Effects of hunger were found for both bland and appetizing foods, while effects of reward drive were restricted to appetizing foods. Our findings extend previous research showing delayed “disengagement” from threat-related stimuli, suggesting that both organismic- and goal-relevance are key biasing factors in attentional competition. A combination of scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and environmental scanning electron microscopy (ESEM) techniques, as well as atomic force microscopy (AFM) methods has been used to study fragments of the Martian meteorite ALH84001. Images of the same areas on the meteorite were obtained prior to and following gold/palladium coating by mapping the surface of the fragment using ESEM coupled with energy-dispersive X-ray analysis. Viewing of the fragments demonstrated the presence of structures, previously described as nanofossils by McKay et al . (Search for past life on Mars — possible relic biogenic activity in martian meteorite ALH84001. Science , 1996, pp. 924–930) of NASA who used SEM imaging of gold-coated meteorite samples. Careful imaging of the fragments revealed that the observed structures were not an artefact introduced by the coating procedure.  相似文献

Exposure of neutrophils to inflammatory stimuli such as the chemoattractant FMLP leads to activation of responses including cell motility, the oxidative burst, and secretion of proteolytic enzymes. A signaling cascade involving sequential activation of Raf-1, mitogen-activated protein kinase (MEK), and extracellular signal regulated kinase (ERK) is also rapidly activated after agonist exposure. The temporal relationship between these events suggests that the kinases may be involved in triggering the effector functions, but direct evidence of a causal relationship is lacking. To assess the role of the MEK/ERK pathway in the activation of neutrophil responses, we studied the effects of PD098059, a potent and selective inhibitor of MEK. Preincubation of human neutrophils with 50 microM PD098059 almost completely (>90%) inhibited the FMLP-induced activation of MEK-1 and MEK-2, the isoforms expressed by neutrophils. This dose of PD098059 virtually abrogated chemoattractant-induced tyrosine phosphorylation and activation of ERK-1 and ERK-2, implying that MEKs are the predominant upstream activators of these mitogen-activated protein kinases. Pretreatment of neutrophils with the MEK antagonist inhibited the oxidative burst substantially and phagocytosis only moderately. In addition, PD098059 antagonized the delay of apoptosis induced by exposure to granulocyte-macrophage CSF. However, the effects of PD098059 were selective, as it failed to inhibit other responses, including chemoattractant-induced exocytosis of primary and secondary granules, polymerization of F-actin, chemotaxis, or activation of phospholipase A2. We conclude that MEK and ERK contribute to the activation of the oxidative burst and phagocytosis, and participate in cytokine regulation of apoptosis.  相似文献

Rectangular drift chamber cells have been constructed and tested using an electron test beam facility at DESY. A systematic study of the time, spatial, energy and double track resolutions with a 100 MHz FADC readout is presented. The spatial resolution is 100 to 120 μm and the double track resolution is 2.5 mm with an Ar:C2H6 (50:50) gas mixture at atmospheric pressure. The resolution obtained corresponds to 6% resolution for a 72-layer chamber.  相似文献

Applied the cyclic-stage model of self-initiated smoking cessation by J. O. Prochaska and C. C. DiClemente (1984) to data on 3,179 young adults (aged 17–21 yrs) to determine the cross-sectional distribution of stages and the frequency and pattern of changes among stages over time. Compared to older adults, the distribution of the stages differed substantially. There were twice as many relapsers and only half as many maintainers among young adults. One-yr changes in stages were examined using a static model that did not take into account the cyclic nature of the change process and a dynamic model that did. This Account summarizes research work on the structural aspects and functional features encountered in all major branches of the Gif family of hydrocarbon-oxidizing reagents. Despite assertions by the inventor of Gif chemistry, D. H. R. Barton, to the effect that nonradical pathways could better explain the behavior of Gif systems, detailed experimental investigations provide compelling evidence to support the preponderance of oxygen- and carbon-centered radical chemistry.  相似文献
