Determination of impurities in high-purity germanium dioxide using atomic emission spectrometry

A technique for the determination of the impurity composition of soluble germanium dioxide and one containing up to 0.1% insoluble in 12 M HCl is described. The technique offers the possibility to control the content of 31 impurities simultaneously after preconcentration with detection limits of about 10⁻⁶ to 10⁻⁸ wt % and with an intralaboratory precision not exceeding 20 rel. %.     

Regeneration of Spent TBP-Diluent Solvent by Steam Distillation

Regeneration of irradiated and actual spent solvent (30% TBP in a hydrocarbon diluent) by overheated steam distillation was studied in batch experiments. The hydrodynamic and extraction-backwash parameters of thus regenerated solvent are practically the same as those of the fresh solvent. The bottoms comprise 3-7% of the initial volume and consist essentially of TBP. Large-scale rig trials of the single- and two-step continuous processes of solvent distillation are performed. Single-step distillation with overheated steam in a vacuum or with saturated water vapor at atmospheric pressure provides transfer into the distillate of the whole amount of the solvent, permitting the use of any diluent. The two-step process allows separation of the solvent into the TBP and diluent fractions and refining of each of them in the case when the diluent boiling point is below that of TBP by 50-70°.     

Chlorine impurity content of Bi<Subscript>2</Subscript>O<Subscript>3</Subscript> and GeO<Subscript>2</Subscript>

Bismuth(III) and germanium(IV) oxides are used as precursors for the crystal growth of bismuth orthogermanate. The chlorine content of the starting oxides is critical to the engineering performance of this material. We propose a simple, high-speed technique for determining the chlorine content of bismuth(III) and germanium(IV) oxides, down to 5 × 10^?4 wt %, using capillary electrophoresis.     

Resolving capacity of the human auditory analyzer

Resolution of human auditory analyser to tine-impulse signals in the noise has been studied AX method was put in the basis of the experiment. Signals were the sinusoid intercepts. Relationships between probability of erroneous distinguishing of the signals and untuning, signal/noise and number of periods in the frequency range from 150 to 4800 Hz. It has been shown that the accepting auditory properties are invariants to the time transformations, the wave number of the sinusoid being the determining characteristics of the stimulus. A concept of frequency--time band of the auditory system is introduced. Its width according to the experimental data depends on the signal/noise ratio.
