Proclaiming Library Worth in a Program Prioritization Process at a Mid-Sized Public University

Abstract

In an economic climate when colleges can no longer presume that legislators see institutions of higher learning as tacit public goods, institutions around the country are facing budget cuts. This article presents a case study of the experience of a mid-sized public state university and its Library in a budget crisis undergoing a university-wide program prioritization process. The authors review the process of writing three reports on the Library’s value, along with the approach to engaging staff in the process including a retreat. This article raises questions about what every library should consider assessing and provide tools for libraries navigating similar terrain.     

赋能存量 做优增量 把握变量——面向“十四五”的国内高校图书馆文献信息资源建设思考

[目的/意义]面向“十四五”的高校图书馆文献信息资源建设既是整体规划的重要组成部分,又是图书馆的服务保障与基础条件。明确编制过程、调研重点、发展思路与实施措施,对于高校图书馆中长期的文献信息资源建设战略有重要的指导作用和现实意义。[方法/过程]结合文献调研与行业观察和分析,采取案例研究、政策文本解读、比较研究等方法,总结高校图书馆制订文献信息资源建设“十四五”规划的策略与发展思路。[结果/结论]文献信息资源建设的总体思路是赋能存量、做优增量和把握变量,针对新发展阶段高校图书馆的目标与任务,提出具体的实施策略。     

Instructional design for single information literacy sessions

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to describe how the Understanding by Design instructional design framework can be applied to design high-quality single-session information literacy instruction. The author describes the Understanding by Design process in detail, noting modifications for single instructional session design with examples from the application of this instructional design process to design co-curricular instruction sessions for undergraduates.     

Representation in the Collection: Assessing Coverage of LGBTQ Content in an Academic Library Collection

Abstract

Academic library collections have been built and shaped by a focus on dominant voices and perspectives. In order for collections to reflect the value librarianship places on diversity as well as represent multiple perspectives and serve users of diverse backgrounds and identities, collections need to be assessed for coverage of content related to diversity. This article discusses the challenges inherent in engaging in such an assessment, discusses collection assessment methods, and describes an analysis performed on the Penn State University Libraries collections focused on lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer content.     

Meeting Information Needs through Global Partnerships: A Roadmap to Becoming a Global Health Sciences Library

Abstract

Supporting global health priorities through the development of robust health science librarianship partnerships is of significant importance. Increased demand for synthesizing evidence-based information, collating quality resources, and increasing research productivity to improve human health requires integration of library and information science skills and expertise. The Health Sciences Library (HSL) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC), exists to be an indispensable partner in health information and knowledge, teaching and learning, and research. As global efforts at UNC expanded, the HSL sought to ensure that our global engagement strategy and integration were aligned with campus priorities and partner needs. The HSL created a global research partnership plan: identify resources that improve efficiency, increase access to information, build in-country capacity and expertise—all while strengthening collaborations across multiple countries. Creating a meaningful and sustainable engagement strategy was central to envisioning our path forward and can be used as a framework for consideration by librarians in similar settings.     

大学经典推荐书目的遴选标准与发展特点

[目的/意义] 经典阅读处于学生通识教育的核心环节，大学经典推荐书目在"读什么""怎么读"的核心教育环节发挥着重要作用。分析和确立大学经典推荐书目的遴选标准，探究其发展特点，对于优化经典书目编制、推动经典阅读，具有十分重要的意义。[方法/过程] 通过网络调研和电话访谈梳理部分"双一流"高校的官方经典推荐书目，分析我国高校经典推荐书目的产生过程与背景。[结果/结论] 大学经典推荐书目在遴选上重视中国传统经典，也注重借鉴西方经典；人文社会科学经典与自然科学经典遴选相对均衡；发掘元典书目新生，重视充实有价值的影响书目。同时，在阅读推广实践中，呈现出尊重阅读主体、重视首因效应发挥、丰富创新推介载体，以及差异化、层次化、定制化的发展特点，体现出高校党政领导的重视和图书馆的主动作为。     

图书馆科普教育现状与发展路径探究——基于25个省市88家科普教育基地调查

[目的/意义] 图书馆肩负着实施科普教育的法定职责，拥有品种多样、内容丰富的科普文献与信息资源的图书馆，在开展科普教育方面具有得天独厚的优势。图书馆科普教育起步比较早，2005年，中国图书馆学会成立科普与阅读指导委员会；但在图书馆业界，科普教育只是零星的点缀式服务创新探索，尚未成为常态化服务项目。在依法治馆、创新发展的新时代，寻求图书馆科普教育发展路径具有较强理论和实践意义。[方法/过程] 通过互联网、微信等社交网络平台，对图书馆科普教育基地建设的状况进行调研，从基地等级、基地类型、基地数量、区域分布、有效期限以及认定依据等方面进行深入分析，并对图书馆实施科普教育提出发展路径以供选择。[结果/结论] 图书馆科普教育应坚持基地建设与科普服务相结合、阅读推广与全民科普相融合、科普与游学并举等策略，走设施、资源、服务"三位一体"的持续稳健协调发展之路。     

人工智能时代情报学发展走向之辨——对本体论、感知论、方法论、服务论的再思考

人工智能相关技术的迅猛发展和逐步普及,使得情报学难以避免人工智能的融合趋势,无论这种融合是主动为之或是被动选择。然而学界对人工智能时代情报学学科的发展走向并未予以充分探讨,大部分研究均将焦点置于大数据与下一代互联网环境中进行论述。本研究将人工智能时代情报学学科走向解构为"本体论""感知论""方法论""服务论"四个论题,对每个论题借由理论面向与实践面向的二分法展开阐释,并从整体视角上提出应在人工智能洪流中找准情报学定位,不能忽视"人"在情报学中的价值以及重视跨学科融合、跨领域应用的发展趋势。     

面向区域创新与产业发展的信息服务实践研究——以中国科学院文献情报中心区域信息服务为例

[目的/意义] 随着自主创新战略的提出，科技信息和科技情报在国家科技发展中的基础性作用日益受到重视，开展区域创新和经济发展的信息服务研究与实践，构建面向区域创新和经济发展的信息服务方法体系、实施方案，是十分必要的。[方法/过程] 通过对国内外文献情报机构服务区域创新和经济发展的实践调研，以及中国科学院文献情报中心在"十二五"和"十三五"期间面向省级科学院、中国科学院转化中心、地方政府、园区企业开展区域信息服务的整体设计和服务实践与案例分析，总结归纳中国科学院文献情报中心开展区域创新和经济发展知识服务的特色和成效。[结果/结论] 在实践的基础上提出图书馆面向区域创新和产业发展提供信息服务，进一步拓展了图书馆的服务领域，是图书馆发展的一个生长点，并将在服务内容与服务方式上不断发展完善。

以测绘期刊<武汉大学学报·信息科学版>为例,从读者感兴趣区域出发,对读者信息和读者需求进行分析,并根据测绘期刊现状讨论测绘类刊物要真正实现为读者办刊的理念,占领国内外市场,必须做好的工作,以及测绘期刊的发展趋势.
