DBTMA relies entirely on RTS/CTS dialogue for un-collided transmission of data. The purpose is to improve the QoS at MAC layer by developing it over 802.11e standard. However, DBTMA does not guarantee real-time constraints without efficient method for controlling the network loads. The main challenges in MANETs include prediction of the available bandwidth, establishing communication with neighboring nodes and predicting the consumption of bandwidth flow. These challenges are provided with solutions using Contention-Aware Admission Control (CACP) protocol. In this paper, the EDBTMA protocol is combined with CACP protocol that introduces bandwidth calculation using admission control strategy. The calculation includes certain metrics like: admission control and bandwidth consumption. To compute the bandwidth of channel, bandwidth utilization and traffic priority is distinguished through dual busy tone is proposed. This operates distinctly on its own packet transmission operation. This CACP mechanism defends the conventional traffic flows from new nodes and based on the measured status information of the channel, it QoS of the admitted flows is maintained. This ensures maximum amount of bandwidth flows accommodated by resources and determines the resources in a system meet the new flow requirements while maintaining existing bandwidth flow levels.  相似文献

Wireless Sensor Network is considered as the intermediate layer in the paradigm of Internet of things (IoT) and its effectiveness depends on the mode of deployment without sacrificing the performance and energy efficiency. WSN provides ubiquitous access to location, the status of different entities of the environment and data acquisition for long term IoT monitoring. Achieving the high performance of the WSN-IoT network remains to be a real challenge since the deployment of these networks in the large area consumes more power which in turn degrades the performance of the networks. So, developing the robust and QoS (quality of services) aware energy-efficient routing protocol for WSN assisted IoT devices needs its brighter light of research to enhance the network lifetime. This paper proposed a Hybrid Energy Efficient Learning Protocol (HELP). The proposed protocol leverages the multi-tier adaptive framework to minimize energy consumption. HELP works in a two-tier mechanism in which it integrates the powerful Extreme Learning Machines for clustering framework and employs the zonal based optimization technique which works on hybrid Whale-dragonfly algorithms to achieve high QoS parameters. The proposed framework uses the sub-area division algorithm to divide the network area into different zones. Extreme learning machines (ELM) which are employed in this framework categories the Zone's Cluster Head (ZCH) based on distance and energy. After categorizing the zone's cluster head, the optimal routing path for an energy-efficient data transfer will be selected based on the new hybrid whale-swarm algorithms. The extensive simulations were carried out using OMNET++-Python user-defined plugins by injecting the dynamic mobility models in networks to make it a more realistic environment. Furthermore, the effectiveness of the proposed HELP is examined against the existing protocols such as LEACH, M-LEACH, SEP, EACRP and SEEP and results show the proposed framework has outperformed other techniques in terms of QoS parameters such as network lifetime, energy, latency.  相似文献

The authors address the problem of providing fair multimedia quality-of-service (QoS) in IEEE 802.11 distributed co-ordination function-based wireless local area networks in the infrastructure mode where mobile hosts experience heterogeneous channel conditions due to mobility and fading effects. It was observed that unequal link qualities can pose significant unfairness of channel sharing, which may thereby lead to the degradation of multimedia QoS performed in adverse conditions. A cross-layer adaptation scheme that provides fair QoS by online adjusting the multidimensional medium access control layer backoff parameters in accordance with the application-layer QoS requirements as well as the physical-layer channel conditions was proposed. The solution is based on an optimisation approach, which utilises neural networks to learn the cross-layer function. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed adaptation scheme can tackle heterogeneous channel conditions and random joining (or leaving) of hosts to achieve fair QoS in terms of throughput and packet delay.  相似文献

The Internet has evolved into a shared, integrated platform of a broad range of applications with different Quality‐of‐Service (QoS) requirements. Routers are an important part of the Internet and play a critical role in assuring QoS. A router is usually placed between two networks to receive data packets from one network and then transmit those data packets to another network if necessary. Data packets are the actual units of data traveling on computer networks. A data packet has two parts: header and data. The data carries messages, such as e‐mail text, from computer applications. The header carries information that is required to control and manage the transmission of the data packet on computer networks. Existing approaches for providing QoS involve prediction or estimation for traffic characterization to determine parameters required of static traffic admission control. However, prediction or estimation inaccuracy in traffic characterization can result in inappropriate parameter settings for static admission control and, in turn, compromise QoS or resource utilization. This study presents a QoS model of a router with feedback control that monitors the state of resource usage and adaptively adjusts parameters of traffic admission control to overcome prediction or estimation inaccuracy and achieve a balance between QoS and resource utilization. The QoS model of a router with feedback control is simulated to test its performance on QoS and resource utilization in both heavy and light traffic conditions. The performance of the QoS model of a router with feedback control is also compared with that of two basic QoS models of a router with static admission control using admission control parameters resulting from over‐ and under‐characterization of traffic, respectively. The simulation results show that the QoS model of a router with feedback control achieves a better balance between QoS and resource utilization than the basic QoS models with over‐ and under‐characterizations of traffic in the heavy traffic condition. This study also shows that the three models of routers demonstrate similar QoS performances and resource utilization in the light traffic condition. Copyright © 2005 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The flexibility of orthogonal frequency-division multiple access (OFDMA) technology necessitates a compromise between spectrum efficiency and quality of service (QoS) in IEEE 802.16 broadband wireless networks. This article proposes a complete solution with the nice feature of adaptive modulation and a coding scheme to provide both delay and loss rate guarantees for real-time services. The proposed method first determines the subframe boundary according to the current downlink and uplink backlogs. To comply with the IEEE 802.16 standard, the proposed method then groups contiguous subchannels and allocates them to proper connections based on the current loss rate and available modulation and coding schemes for each connection. By modeling the aggregated required subchannels as a Gaussian distribution, this study develops a simple admission control algorithm by checking if there are enough resources for a new connection. Simulation results show that the proposed solution can provide QoS guarantee with high spectrum efficiency.  相似文献

Quality-of-service (QoS) guarantees are critical for the transmission of multimedia traffic over mobile wireless networks. Currently, wireless networks provide QoS guarantees using the legacy layered protocol architecture where each layer provides a separate, independent solution, with its own optimised adaptation and protection mechanisms. Cross-layer design has been proposed as a methodology to extend that paradigm in wireless links where there is interdependence between the layers and hence opportunity for information sharing. Recently, cross-layer adaptation mechanisms have been proposed which attempt to solve the QoS provisioning problem. However, most of these mechanisms only use the lower (physical and data link) layers and the possibility of using higher protocol layers remains unexplored. As a result, restrictions are placed on the system which introduces functional and efficiency limitations. Here, one such limitation is highlighted, namely the inability to insert more than one class of traffic in a physical layer frame. A physical and application layer cross-layer adaptation mechanism is then proposed, which overcomes this limitation. The performance results of the scheme show that the cross-layer mechanism can be efficiently applied for the purpose of providing QoS guarantees for multimedia traffic.  相似文献

A mobile agent based on-demand quality of service (QoS) unicast routing scheme for supporting multimedia applications is proposed that considers bandwidth, delay and packet loss as QoS metrics for feasible path computation. A mobile agent is employed to find multiple QoS paths and select a best path among them to preserve resources so as to increase call success ratio and network bandwidth utilisation as well as adapt to network dynamics. The scheme is simulated in various network scenarios (sparse and dense networks) to verify performance and operation effectiveness, and compared with RSVP-based QoS routing by using an internet routing protocol. The results demonstrate significant improvements in call success ratio and network bandwidth utilisation compared with RSVP-based QoS routing, both in case of sparse and dense networks. In infrastructure wireless networks, the wireless hop can be considered as another hop of the transmission path. With the rapid growth of wireless traffics, the future wireless network is expected to provide services for heterogeneous data traffics with different quality of service (QoS) requirements. Most proposed schemes do not have adaptive mechanisms to deal with the environment changes. In real situation, bandwidths, error rates and loss rates of wireless links vary frequently. We will base on the differentiated service model and propose a wireless differentiation (WD) scheme for user datagram protocol (UDP) flows and a wireless differentiation with prioritised ACK scheme for connections with transmission control protocol (TCP) flows. Both schemes provide QoS support for IEEE 802.11b and do not change the basic access mechanism of IEEE 802.11b.  相似文献

Providing global connectivity with high speed and guaranteed quality at any place and any time is now becoming a reality due to the integration and co-ordination of different radio access technologies. The internetworking of existing networks with diverse characteristics has been considered attractive to meet the incredible development of interactive multimedia services and ever-growing demands of mobile users. Due to the diverse characteristics of heterogeneous networks, several challenges have to be addressed in terms of quality of service (QoS), mobility management and user preferences. To achieve this goal, an optimal network selection algorithm is needed to select the target network for maximizing the end user satisfaction. The existing works do not consider the integration of utility function with mobile terminal mobility characteristics to minimize ping-pong effects in the integrated networks. An integrated multicriteria network selection algorithm based on multiplicative utility function and residual residence time (RRT) estimation is proposed to keep the mobile users always best connected. Multiplicative weighted utility function considers network conditions, application QoS and user preferences to evaluate the available networks. In this paper, the proposed scheme is implemented with two mainstreams (pedestrian users and high-velocity users). For high-velocity users, RRT and adaptive residence time threshold are also considered to keep the probability of handover failures and unnecessary handovers within the limits. Monte-Carlo simulation results demonstrate that the proposed scheme outperforms against existing approaches.  相似文献

Despite the seemingly exponential growth of mobile and wireless communication, this same technology aims to offer uninterrupted access to different wireless systems like Radio Communication, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi to achieve better network connection which in turn gives the best quality of service (QoS). Many analysts have established many handover decision systems (HDS) to enable assured continuous mobility between various radio access technologies. Unbroken mobility is one of the most significant problems considered in wireless communication networks. Each application needs a distinct QoS, so the network choice may shift appropriately. To achieve this objective and to choose the finest networks, it is important to select a best decision making algorithm that chooses the most effective network for every application that the user requires, dependent on QoS measures. Therefore, the main goal of the proposed system is to provide an enhanced vertical handover (VHO) decision making program by using a Multi-Criteria Fuzzy-Based algorithm to choose the best network. Enhanced Multi-Criteria algorithms and a Fuzzy-Based algorithm is implemented successfully for optimal network selection and also to minimize the probability of false handover. Furthermore, a double packet buffer is utilized to decrease the packet loss by 1.5% and to reduce the number of handovers up to 50% compared to the existing systems. In addition, the network setup has an optimized mobility management system to supervise the movement of the mobile nodes.  相似文献

The proliferation of the wireless network over the last decade is one of the significant drivers for the increased deployment of mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) in the battle field. It is not practically possible to build a fixed wired network infrastructure in battle field. But it is possible to create a mobile wireless network infrastructure because of the mobility of the soldiers. MANET is justified by the possibility of building a network where no infrastructure exists. MANET with group communication applications and multicasting can highly benefit from a networking environment such as military and emergency uses. In such applications, the used ad hoc networks need to be reliable and secure. In recent years, a specific technique called the universal generating function technique (UGFT) has been applied to determine the network reliability. The UGFT is based on an approach that is closely connected to generating functions that are widely used in probability theory. This work devotes to assess the MANET reliability using the UGFT. Reliability of the MANET is defined as the probability that the transformed message from the source can be passed successfully through the MANET and reached the target without any delay. Two kinds of UGFs are discussed in this work, and an algorithm has been proposed to execute the system reliability. This UGFT is illustrated with a case study in a battlefield environment. A new paradigm of VANET has emerged in recent years: Internet of Vehicles (IoV). These networks are formed on the roads and streets between travellers who have relationships, interactions and common social interests. Users of these networks exchange information of common interest, for example, traffic jams and dangers on the way. They can also exchange files such as multimedia files. IoV is considered as part of the Internet of Things (IoT) where objects are vehicles, which can create a multitude of services dedicated to the intelligent transportation system. The interest is to permit to all connected vehicles to communicate with each other and/or with a central server, through other vehicles. Vehicle to Vehicle (V2V) communication is the main component, because the services encompassed in the IoV are based on the vehicles in question, such as transmitter, relay and receiver. This work is focusing on designing and developing a Quality of Service (QoS) routing scheme dedicated to IoV networks. Especially, we aim to improve the Greedy Traffic Aware Routing (GyTAR) protocol to support QoS in IoV networks. To evaluate the proposed approach in terms of QoS in the context of IoV networks, the performance metrics such as average end-to-end delay and packet delivery ratio are taken into consideration to analyse the network situation.  相似文献

Mobile Ad hoc Network (MANET) is established for a limited period, for special extemporaneous services related to mobile applications. This ad hoc network is set up for a limited period, in environments that change with the application. While in Internet the TCP/IP protocol suite supports a wide range of application, in MANETs protocols are tuned to specific customer/application. Multicasting is emerging as a popular communication format where the same packet is sent to multiple nodes in a network. Routing in multicasting involves maintaining routes and finding new node locations in a group and is NP-complete due to the dynamic nature of the network. In this paper, a Hybrid Genetic Based Optimization for Multicast Routing algorithm is proposed. The proposed algorithm uses the best features of Genetic Algorithm (GA) and particle swarm optimization (PSO) to improve the solution. Simulations were conducted by varying number of mobile nodes and results compared with Multicast AODV (MAODV) protocol, PSO based and GA based solution. The proposed optimization improves jitter, end to end delay and Packet Delivery Ratio (PDR) with faster convergence.  相似文献

Utilising the battery life and the limited bandwidth available in mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) in the most efficient manner is an important issue, along with providing security at the network layer. The authors propose, design and describe E2-SCAN, an energy-efficient network layered security solution for MANETs, which protects both routing and packet forwarding functionalities in the context of the on demand distance vector protocol. E2-SCAN is an advanced approach that builds on and improves upon some of the state-of-the-art results available in the literature. The proposed E2-SCAN algorithm protects the routing and data forwarding operations through the same reactive approach, as is provided by the SCAN algorithm. It also enhances the security of the network by detecting and reacting to the malicious nodes. In E2-SCAN, the immediate one-hop neighbour nodes collaboratively monitor. E2-SCAN adopts a modified novel credit strategy to decrease its overhead as the time evolves. Through both analysis and simulation results, the authors demonstrate the effectiveness of E2-SCAN over SCAN in a hostile environment.  相似文献

The IEEE 802.15.3 medium access control (MAC) protocol is an emerging standard for high-rate wireless personal area networks (WPANs), especially for supporting high-quality real-time multimedia applications. Despite defining quality of service (QoS) signalling mechanisms for interoperability between devices, IEEE 802.15.3 does not specify resource allocation algorithms that are left to manufacturers. To guarantee the QoS of real-time variable bit rate (VBR) videos and utilise the radio resource efficiently, the authors propose a dynamic resource allocation algorithm. The proposed bandwidth allocation algorithm is based on a novel traffic predictor. Recently, the variable step-size normalised least mean square (VSSNLMS) algorithm was employed for on-line traffic prediction of VBR videos. However, the performance of the VSSNLMS algorithm significantly degrades due to the abrupt traffic variation occurring at the scene boundary. To tackle this problem, the authors design a novel traffic predictor based on a simple scene detection algorithm and the VSSNLMS algorithm. Analyses using real-life MPEG video traces indicate that the proposed traffic predictor significantly outperforms the VSSNLMS algorithm with respect to the prediction error. The performance of the proposed bandwidth allocation algorithm is also investigated by comparing several existing algorithms. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed bandwidth allocation algorithm surpasses other mechanisms in terms of channel utilisation, buffer usage and packet loss rate.  相似文献

The main aim of future mobile networks is to provide secure, reliable, intelligent, and seamless connectivity. It also enables mobile network operators to ensure their customer’s a better quality of service (QoS). Nowadays, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) are a significant part of the mobile network due to their continuously growing use in various applications. For better coverage, cost-effective, and seamless service connectivity and provisioning, UAVs have emerged as the best choice for telco operators. UAVs can be used as flying base stations, edge servers, and relay nodes in mobile networks. On the other side, Multi-access Edge Computing (MEC) technology also emerged in the 5G network to provide a better quality of experience (QoE) to users with different QoS requirements. However, UAVs in a mobile network for coverage enhancement and better QoS face several challenges such as trajectory designing, path planning, optimization, QoS assurance, mobility management, etc. The efficient and proactive path planning and optimization in a highly dynamic environment containing buildings and obstacles are challenging. So, an automated Artificial Intelligence (AI) enabled QoS-aware solution is needed for trajectory planning and optimization. Therefore, this work introduces a well-designed AI and MEC-enabled architecture for a UAVs-assisted future network. It has an efficient Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL) algorithm for real-time and proactive trajectory planning and optimization. It also fulfills QoS-aware service provisioning. A greedy-policy approach is used to maximize the long-term reward for serving more users with QoS. Simulation results reveal the superiority of the proposed DRL mechanism for energy-efficient and QoS-aware trajectory planning over the existing models.  相似文献
