A considerable number of applications are running over IP networks. This increased the contention on the network resource, which ultimately results in congestion. Active queue management (AQM) aims to reduce the serious consequences of network congestion in the router buffer and its negative effects on network performance. AQM methods implement different techniques in accordance with congestion indicators, such as queue length and average queue length. The performance of the network is evaluated using delay, loss, and throughput. The gap between congestion indicators and network performance measurements leads to the decline in network performance. In this study, delay and loss predictions are used as congestion indicators in a novel stochastic approach for AQM. The proposed method estimates the congestion in the router buffer and then uses the indicators to calculate the dropping probability, which is responsible for managing the router buffer. The experimental results, based on two sets of experiments, have shown that the proposed method outperformed the existing benchmark algorithms including RED, ERED and BLUE algorithms. For instance, in the first experiment, the proposed method resides in the third-place in terms of delay when compared to the benchmark algorithms. In addition, the proposed method outperformed the benchmark algorithms in terms of packet loss, packet dropping, and packet retransmission. Overall, the proposed method outperformed the benchmark algorithms because it preserves packet loss while maintaining reasonable queuing delay. 相似文献

This work presents the design and evaluation of an adaptive packet router aimed at supporting CC-NUMA traffic. We exploit a simple and efficient packet injection mechanism to avoid deadlock, which leads to a fully, adaptive routing by employing only three virtual channels. In addition, we selectively use output buffers for implementing the most utilized virtual paths in order to reduce head-of-line blocking. The careful implementation of these features has resulted in a good trade-off between the network performance and hardware cost. The outcome of this research is a high-performance adaptive router (HPAR), which adequately balances the needs of parallel applications: minimal network latency at low loads and high throughput at heavy loads. The paper includes an evaluation process in which HPAR is compared with other adaptive routers using FIFO input bufferring, with or without additional virtual channels to reduce head-of-line blocking. This evaluation contemplates both the VLSI costs of each router and their performance under synthetic and real application workloads. To make the comparison fair, all the routers use the same efficient deadlock avoidance mechanism. In all the experiments, HPAR exhibited the best response among all the routers tested. Moreover, the observed packet latencies were comparable to those exhibited by simpler routers. Therefore, HPAR can be considered as a suitable candidate to implement packet interchange in next generations of CC-NUMA multiprocessors. 相似文献

In networking today, host workstations are increasingly being used as routers. Host based routers offer a number of advantages, but they suffer from inefficient support for high bandwidth interfaces. The authors' work has focused on the technology's major drawback its inefficiency in supporting high bandwidth interfaces. Their approach is to optimize packet processing by applying techniques that transfer packets directly among host interfaces, thus removing an extra data copy. This technique increases data throughput by 45 percent while reducing the host's CPU load. They found that peer DMA forwarding can increase host based router throughput by up to 45 percent, supporting bandwidths of 480 Mbps. Peer DMA host based forwarding requires network interface cards with substantial shared memory resources, because packet queues are stored on the interfaces themselves, rather than in host RAM. The queuing algorithm remains in the host CPU, supporting advanced queue management. Current systems have limited packet processing. A combination of streamlined forwarding algorithms and aggregate interrupt processing should further increase host based capability. Moving some of the IP processing out to the NIC coprocessor may enable this. It is also apparent that as processor speeds increase, the advantages of peer DMA will aid throughput for small packet sizes 相似文献

无线mesh网中的流量经路由器聚集后主要是通过少量网关至因特网的,容易在网关处形成导致网络性能的瓶颈。针对此问题,首先对网关和路由器作等效节点化处理,利用无线通信阴影效应的对数-正态分布模型,设计加权目标函数保证节点的连通性和覆盖率,得到候选网关节点的位置部署;在此基础上根据网关部署的约束条件和网络生成连通图,设计启发性基于度/权值的树集分割(TSP)算法,选择出满足吞吐需求、有较好连通性的候选节点担任网关设置。NS2仿真结果验证了该设计方法对改善网关节点的吞吐容量和信号覆盖连通率的有效性。 相似文献
