Let G be a graph. An independent set Y in G is called an essential independent set (or essential set for simplicity) if there is {Y1, Y2} 包含于Y such that dist (y1,y2)=2. In this paper, we use the technique of the vertex insertion on l-connected (l=k or k 1, k≥2) graphs to provide a unified proof for G to be hamiltonian, or hamiltonian-connected. For a sequence of identically distributed negatively associated random variables {Xn; n ≥ 1} with partial sums Sn = ∑i=1^n Xi, n ≥ 1, refinements are presented of the classical Baum-Katz and Lai complete convergence theorems. More specifically, necessary and sufficient moment conditions are provided for complete moment convergence of the form ∑n≥n0 n^r-2-1/pq anE(max1≤k≤n|Sk|^1/q-∈bn^1/qp)^+〈∞to hold where r 〉 1, q 〉 0 and either n0 = 1,0 〈 p 〈 2, an = 1,bn = n or n0 = 3,p = 2, an = 1 (log n) ^1/2q, bn=n log n. These results extend results of Chow and of Li and Spataru from the indepen- dent and identically distributed case to the identically distributed negatively associated setting. Banach space valued random variables and let {an; n ≥ 1} be a sequence of positive constants such that an↑∞ and 1〈 lim inf n→∞ a2n/an≤lim sup n→∞ a2n/an〈∞ Set Sn=∑i=1^n Xi,n≥1.In this paper we prove that ∑n≥1 1/n P(||Sn||≥εan)〈∞ for all ε〉0 if and only if lim n→∞ Sn/an=0 a.s. This result generalizes the Baum-Katz-Spitzer complete convergence theorem. Combining our result and a corollary of Einmahl and Li, we solve a conjecture posed by Gut.  相似文献

We show that this implies that X is almost Euclidean in the following sense: Every n-dimensional subspace of X embeds into Hilbert space with distortion 22O(log*n)2^{2^{O(\log^{*}n)}} . In this paper we find the exact values ofμ p(X) for various spaces, and obtain some asymptotic estimates ofμ p(X) for general finite dimensional Banach spaces. Recently, B. Y. Chen introduced a new intrinsic invariant of a manifold, and proved that everyn-dimensional submanifold of real space formsR m (ε) of constant sectional curvature ε satisfies a basic inequality δ(n 1,…,n k )≤c(n 1,…,n k )H 2+b(n 1,…,n k )ε, whereH is the mean curvature of the immersion, andc(n 1,…,n k ) andb(n 1,…,n k ) are constants depending only onn 1,…,n k ,n andk. The immersion is calledideal if it satisfies the equality case of the above inequality identically for somek-tuple (n 1,…,n k ). In this paper, we first prove that every ideal Einstein immersion satisfyingnn 1+…+n k +1 is totally geodesic, and that every ideal conformally flat immersion satisfyingnn 1+…+n k +2 andk≥2 is also totally geodesic.
