Spatial soliton pixels from partially incoherent light 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
We report what is to our knowledge the first observation of pixellike spatial solitons from partially spatially incoherent light. We created an array of as many as 32x32 soliton pixels by launching a spatially modulated incoherent light beam into a noninstantaneous self-focusing photorefraction medium. These solitons were stable and robust, forming a steady-state two-dimensional waveguide array in which optical coupling and control of local waveguide channels could be realized. 相似文献

Fundamental properties of topological spatial solitons existing in active cavities with high (above 100) Fresnel numbers, laser and/or parametric amplification, and saturated absorber were numerically and experimentally studied. Writing and erasing of bi- and tristable laser solitons (fundamental solitons [1, 2] and vortex solitons [3]) using an external control light pulse were considered in various regions of the laser cross section. The existence of optical domain walls (separated phase domains which are in antiphase) in the form of expanding spiral waves and the localized domain soliton rotating about the Neel defect (in this connection, we called it the “Neel soliton”) in active cavities with mixed laser and parametric amplification was shown in a numerical experiment for the first time. The planar dark spatial soliton supported by the photo-induced isomerization and reorientation of azo-dye Disperse Red 13 was generated in bulk Disperse Red 13 doped poly (methyl methacrylate) using incoherent red light from a continuous-wave He–Ne laser. The problem of control for the quantum statistics of dissipative vortex optical solitons when using the Raman scheme of spin-flip transitions in an optical fiber doped with narrow-bandgap semiconductor quantum dots is considered. We show that a weak probe light beam can form spatial solitons in an electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) medium composed of four-level atoms and a coupling light field. We find that the coupling light beam can induce a highly controllable nonlinear waveguide and exert very strong effects on the dynamical behavior of the solitons. Hence, in the EIT medium, it is not only possible to produce spatial solitons at very low light intensities but also simultaneously control these solitons by using the coupling-light-induced nonlinear waveguide. 相似文献

Local-field effects are known to induce bistability in dense optical media. We examine theoretically whether this property is preserved in broad-area cavities, and show that bistability between the homogeneous lasing and nonlasing states of the system persists provided a Fourier filtering technique is used to prevent off-axis emission. The resulting bistability gives rise to spatial light localization in the form of cavity solitons, which exhibit a particularly large degree of plasticity as a function of the characteristics of the addressing beam. A coupled state of a pair of spatial laser solitons with different topological charges in a wide-aperture class-A laser with saturable absorption was found by numerical simulation. In view of a difference in the frequencies of the individual solitons, periodic (with a period corresponding to the frequency difference) weak pulsations of the shape of the solitons and of the spacing between them take place, but the rotation of the pair and the motion of its center of inertia were not revealed. 相似文献

Based on computer simulation, we demonstrate the possibility of formation of solitons upon propagation of a femtosecond laser pulse in a medium containing gold nanoparticles in the presence of two-photon light absorption. The solitons are formed when the laser pulse induces a positive phase grating. The speed of solitons substantially exceeds the speed of laser radiation propagating in a linear medium. 相似文献
