I studied experimentally beam self-collimation and splitting in two-dimensional microwave photonic crystals. Using a microwave photonic crystal fabricated from alumina rods, I present an experimental proof of principle for an earlier theoretical proposal [A.F. Matthews, S.K. Morrison, Yu.S. Kivshar, Opt. A simple method to control the light transmission from a photonic crystal waveguide (PCW) is proposed. The self-collimation (SC) effect in PC is utilized to depress the diffractive behavior of the light beam emitting out from the PCW. The finite difference in time domain (FDTD) simulation results show that choosing appropriate self-collimation frequency and the space between the PCW and the SC-PC can achieve a very good collimating beam in the outgoing side. 相似文献

A tunable power splitter is proposed in a two-dimensional photonic crystal with a line defect composed of two rows rods, whose refractive index can be controlled artificially. This device is working at a self-collimation frequency. The finite difference time domain (FDTD) simulations show that the beam splitting ratio is a function of the refractive index of line defect. If the index varies from 3.0 to 3.5, the beam intensity of one output port decreases from 87.2% (normalized by the input beam) to 0 while the intensity of the other output port increases from 8.98% to 100% monotonically. The coupling between the self-collimation mode and the defect mode is used to explain the working mechanism. 相似文献

利用平面波展开方法计算了波状结构二维光子晶体(2DPC)的等频面,对等频面内矩形轮廓的等频线进行研究,提出了波状结构2DPC的自准直特性,运用时域有限差分(FDTD)方法模拟了波状结构2DPC在不同入射角情况下对所入射高斯光束的自准直作用.将波状结构2DPC的自准直特性运用到近场亚波长成像,模拟了波状结构2DPC的自准直亚波长成像效果,单光源的成像分辨率达到0.28λ,且随着光源逐渐远离近场范围而降低.

Engineering the near-field imaging of a rectangular-lattice photonic-crystal slab in the second band
Imaging properties of a two-dimensional rectangular-lattice photonic crystal (PC) slab consisting of air holes immersed in
a dielectric are studied in this work. The field patterns of electromagnetic waves radiated from a point source through the
PC slab are calculated with the finite-difference time-domain method. Comparing the field patterns with the corresponding
equifrequency-surface contours simulated by the plane-wave expansion method, we find that an excellent-quality near-field
image may be formed through the PC slab by the mechanisms of the simultaneous action of the self-collimation effect and the
negative-refraction effect. Near-field imaging may be obtained within two different frequency regions in two vertical directions
of the PC slab.

The frequency bands for self-collimation at both TE and TM polarizations in square lattice annular photonic crystals are studied systematically by plane-wave expansion and finite difference time domain methods. By increasing the inner ring radius or reducing the outer ring radius, the self-collimation band will be moved to a lower frequency. Compared with the TM modes, TE ones have different frequency sensitivities to both the inner ring radius and outer ring radius tuning. Using these features, a polarization insensitive self-collimation waveguide in a high dielectric contrast system with bandwidth up to 102.9 nm is demonstrated as an example of the implementation of photonic integration circuits. 相似文献

基于光子晶体的自准直效应,利用在同一背景折射率下不同介质柱的等效折射率的不同,提出了一种基于晶格旋转的二维光子晶体Mach-Zehnder干涉仪折射率传感器。分别应用线缺陷和空气平板波导构成其分束镜和全反镜,并在其中一个干涉臂上设置传感区域。通过改变填充到传感区域溶液的浓度,改变介质柱的折射率,进而影响透射谱的中心波长,从而建立起溶液浓度和透射波长之间的数学关系;并进行了酒精溶液浓度测量的数值模拟,结果表明,该传感器在1.33~1.37折射率变化范围内灵敏度为250nm/RIU。 相似文献

Imaging properties of a two-dimensional photonic crystal slab lens are
investigated through the finite-difference time-domain method. In this
paper, we consider the photonic crystal slab consisting of a square lattice
of square metallic rods immersed in a dielectric background. Through the
analysis of the equifrequency-surface contours and the field patterns of a
point source placed in the vicinity of the photonic crystal slab, we find
that a good-quality image can form at the frequencies in the second
TM-polarized photonic band. Comparing the images formed at different
frequencies, we can clearly see that an excellent-quality image is formed by
the mechanisms of simultaneous action of the self-collimation effect and the
negative-refraction effect. 相似文献

We generate self-collimating surface plasmon beams in a doubly periodic plasmonic grating. The self-collimation effect is understood from the local anisotropy of the isofrequency surface of the grating in the vicinity of the bandgap. The properties of the beams are analyzed by leakage radiation microscopy and show to an unprecedented level significantly reduced diffraction as compared with plasmon beams propagating on a flat metal film. 相似文献

利用有限时域差分法(FDTD)进行数值模拟,在二维光子晶体中实现了电磁波两种偏振态的自准直——全光自准直(full-light-self-collimation).研究表明,通过对光子晶体的结构做适当的调整,可以在较宽频率范围内实现横电波(TE波)和横磁波(TM波)沿着相同方向传播,同时保持较强的能流强度.全光自准直可以显著提高光源利用率和光波导的传播效率,在高密度集成光路中有非常重要的用途.

Negative refraction and imaging properties of the electromagnetic wave through a two-dimensional photonic crystal (PC) slab, which consists of a square lattice of elliptical dielectric rods immersed in the air background, is studied by the plane-wave expansion method and the finite-difference time-domain method. A point source placed in the vicinity of the PC slab can form a good-quality image spot through the PC slab for the incident frequencies within the second photonic band. The calculated result also shows that negative refraction occurs in this kind of PC slab. 相似文献

We report self-collimating demonstration in planar photonic crystals (PhCs) fabricated in silicon-on-insulator (SOI) wafers using 0.18 μm silicon complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) techniques. This process is original in the context of self-collimating PhC. Emphasis was on demonstrating self-collimation effect through the use of standard CMOS equipment and process development of an optical test chip using a high-volume manufacturing facility. The PhC were designed on 230 nm-top-Si layer using a square lattice of air-holes with 270 nm in diameter. The lattice constant of the PhC was 380 nm. The 1 mm self-collimation was observed at the wavelengths of 1620 nm. 相似文献

In this paper, the Langevin longitudinal-flexural composite mode piezoelectric ultrasonic transducer is studied. This type of transducers consists of slender metal rods and longitudinally polarized piezoelectric ceramic rings. The resonance frequency equations for the longitudinal and flexural vibrations in the transducer are derived. By correcting the length of the metal slender rods, the simultaneous resonance of the longitudinal and flexural vibrations in the transducer is acquired. The experimental results show that the measured resonance frequencies of the transducers are in good agreement with the computed ones, and the measured resonance frequencies of the longitudinal and the flexural vibrations in the composite transducers are also in good agreement with each other. 相似文献

In this paper, we report a photonic integrated circuit (PIC), which consisting of a photonic crystal (PC) coupled by a dielectric waveguide to an optical fibre. The PC consists of a sequence of dielectric rods based on a silicon (Si) strip on a silicon dioxide (SiO2) layer. The finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method is reviewed and then used to model and predict the optical and the geometrical parameters used to design the fundamental elements of the PIC. The air gap width and the etching depth of the grooves are characterised. The coupling between the PC, and traditional dielectric waveguides is studied and coupling efficiency is evaluated. Diffractive losses are shown to affect strongly the performances of the proposed PIC. In addition, the effect of the air gap width on the diffractive losses and the coupling efficiency between successive neighbouring silicon sections is analysed. The field profile distribution in the structure is calculated and performed. The effects of an incorporated defect are studied, showing a high quality factor. 相似文献

Based on the classical torsional and flexural vibrational theory of a slender rod, the prestressed sandwich torsional-flexural composite mode piezoelectric ceramic ultrasonic transducer is studied. This type of transducer consists of the slender metal rods and the longitudinally and tangentially polarized piezoelectric ceramic rings. The resonance frequency equations for the torsional and flexural vibrations in the transducers are derived. The simultaneous resonance of the torsional and flexural vibrations in the transducer is acquired by correcting the length of the metal slender rods resulting from the piezoelectric ceramic elements. The experimental results show that the measured resonance frequencies of the transducers are in good agreement with the computed ones, and the measured resonance frequencies of the torsional and the flexural vibrations in the composite transducers are also in good agreement with each other. 相似文献

提出了一种低对称性椭圆介质柱二维光子晶体结构, 利用平面波展开法研究了该结构在第一布里渊区的能带特性. 讨论了全角自准直效应的物理机制及椭圆柱结构参数对其带宽的影响, 明确给出了自准直传播模式的存在判据. 研究发现, 自准直模式几乎覆盖了TE偏振的整个第四能带, 而且该能带面上存在两个横跨第一布里渊区的超宽平坦区域. 时域有限差分法模拟结果表明, 利用超宽平坦区域的特性, 可同时实现带宽达187 nm (以1550 nm为中心波长)、准直入射角度几乎覆盖0°–90°的宽带全角自准直光传输. 相似文献

A wavelength-division-multiplexing system with high compactness and extremely simple structures is designed and analyzed theoretically for optical communication wavelengths. The structure consists of a self-collimation region, a coupler, a coupling section, and two arbitrarily bent periodic dielectric waveguides (PDWGs). Operation principle of the devices is based on self-collimation and directional coupling mechanism. The equal-frequency contours (EFCs) are nearly flat from 0.17–0.22 (2πc/a), thus the self-collimation region acts as a multiplexer. Operation principle of the demultiplexer is based on directional coupling in two parallel periodic dielectric waveguides. The device performances have been evaluated by the finite-difference time-domain simulations coupled with perfectly matched layer (PML) boundary conditions. 相似文献

We propose a novel directional emitter for achieving highly efficient beaming of self-collimated light from two-dimensional photonic crystal (PC). The structure is composed of a two-dimensional (2D) photonic crystal and two-layer dielectric rods. The finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) simulations show that the emission properties are sensitive to the distance between photonic crystal and two-layer dielectric rods. By adjusting the relative position of the two-layer dielectric rods, highly efficient beaming emission can be realized. 相似文献
