For our introduced mixed-integer quadratic stochastic program with fixed recourse matrices, random recourse costs, technology matrix and right-hand sides, we study quantitative stability properties of its optimal value function and optimal solution set when the underlying probability distribution is perturbed with respect to an appropriate probability metric. To this end, we first establish various Lipschitz continuity results about the value function and optimal solutions of mixed-integer parametric quadratic programs with parameters in the linear part of the objective function and in the right-hand sides of linear constraints. The obtained results extend earlier results about quantitative stability properties of stochastic integer programming and stability results for mixed-integer parametric quadratic programs.  相似文献

Including integer variables into traditional stochastic linear programs has considerable implications for structural analysis and algorithm design. Starting from mean-risk approaches with different risk measures we identify corresponding two- and multi-stage stochastic integer programs that are large-scale block-structured mixed-integer linear programs if the underlying probability distributions are discrete. We highlight the role of mixed-integer value functions for structure and stability of stochastic integer programs. When applied to the block structures in stochastic integer programming, well known algorithmic principles such as branch-and-bound, Lagrangian relaxation, or cutting plane methods open up new directions of research. We review existing results in the field and indicate departure points for their extension. This paper is a contribution to the robustness analysis for stochastic programs whose set of feasible solutions depends on the probability distribution?P. For various reasons, probability distribution P may not be precisely specified and we study robustness of results with respect to perturbations of?P. The main tool is the contamination technique. For the optimal value, local contamination bounds are derived and applied to robustness analysis of the optimal value of a portfolio performance under risk-shaping CVaR constraints. A?new robust portfolio efficiency test with respect to the second order stochastic dominance criterion is suggested and the contamination methodology is exploited to analyze its resistance with respect to additional scenarios.  相似文献

In this paper, we review recent advances in the distributional analysis of mixed integer linear programs with random objective coefficients. Suppose that the probability distribution of the objective coefficients is incompletely specified and characterized through partial moment information. Conic programming methods have been recently used to find distributionally robust bounds for the expected optimal value of mixed integer linear programs over the set of all distributions with the given moment information. These methods also provide additional information on the probability that a binary variable attains a value of 1 in the optimal solution for 0–1 integer linear programs. This probability is defined as the persistency of a binary variable. In this paper, we provide an overview of the complexity results for these models, conic programming formulations that are readily implementable with standard solvers and important applications of persistency models. The main message that we hope to convey through this review is that tools of conic programming provide important insights in the probabilistic analysis of discrete optimization problems. These tools lead to distributionally robust bounds with applications in activity networks, vertex packing, discrete choice models, random walks and sequencing problems, and newsvendor problems.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider quantitative stability analysis for two-stage stochastic linear programs when recourse costs, the technology matrix, the recourse matrix and the right-hand side vector are all random. For this purpose, we first investigate continuity properties of parametric linear programs. After deriving an explicit expression for the upper bound of its feasible solutions, we establish locally Lipschitz continuity of the feasible solution sets of parametric linear programs. These results are then applied to prove continuity of the generalized objective function derived from the full random second-stage recourse problem, from which we derive new forms of quantitative stability results of the optimal value function and the optimal solution set with respect to the Fortet–Mourier probability metric. The obtained results are finally applied to establish asymptotic behavior of an empirical approximation algorithm for full random two-stage stochastic programs.  相似文献

Some developments in structure and stability of stochastic programs during the last decade together with interrelations to optimization theory and stochastics are reviewed. With weak convergence of probability measures as a backbone we discuss qualitative and quantitative stability of recourse models that possibly involve integer variables. We sketch stability in chance constrained stochastic programming and provide some applications in statistical estimation. Finally, an outlook is devoted to issues that were not discussed in detail and to some open problems.  相似文献

The mean-risk stochastic mixed-integer programs can better model complex decision problems under uncertainty than usual stochastic (integer) programming models. In order to derive theoretical results in a numerically tractable way, the contamination technique is adopted in this paper for the postoptimality analysis of the mean-risk models with respect to changes in the scenario set, here the risk is measured by the lower partial moment. We first study the continuity of the objective function and the differentiability, with respect to the parameter contained in the contaminated distribution, of the optimal value function of the mean-risk model when the recourse cost vector, the technology matrix and the right-hand side vector in the second stage problem are all random. The postoptimality conclusions of the model are then established. The obtained results are applied to two-stage stochastic mixed-integer programs with risk objectives where the objective function is nonlinear with respect to the probability distribution. The current postoptimality results for stochastic programs are improved.  相似文献

Multistage stochastic programs bring computational complexity which may increase exponentially with the size of the scenario tree in real case problems. For this reason approximation techniques which replace the problem by a simpler one and provide lower and upper bounds to the optimal value are very useful. In this paper we provide monotonic lower and upper bounds for the optimal objective value of a multistage stochastic program. These results also apply to stochastic multistage mixed integer linear programs. Chains of inequalities among the new quantities are provided in relation to the optimal objective value, the wait-and-see solution and the expected result of using the expected value solution. The computational complexity of the proposed lower and upper bounds is discussed and an algorithmic procedure to use them is provided. Numerical results on a real case transportation problem are presented.  相似文献

Linear stochastic programming problems with first order stochastic dominance (FSD) constraints are non-convex. For their mixed 0-1 linear programming formulation we present two convex relaxations based on second order stochastic dominance (SSD). We develop necessary and sufficient conditions for FSD, used to obtain a disjunctive programming formulation and to strengthen one of the SSD-based relaxations.  相似文献

Stochastic integer programs are notoriously difficult. Very few properties are known and solution algorithms are very scarce. In this paper, we introduce the class of stochastic programs with simple integer recourse, a natural extension of the simple recourse case extensively studied in stochastic continuous programs.Analytical as well as computational properties of the expected recourse function of simple integer recourse problems are studied. This includes sharp bounds on this function and the study of the convex hull. Finally, a finite termination algorithm is obtained that solves two classes of stochastic simple integer recourse problems.Supported by the National Operations Research Network in the Netherlands (LNMB).  相似文献

Decomposition has proved to be one of the more effective tools for the solution of large-scale problems, especially those arising in stochastic programming. A decomposition method with wide applicability is Benders' decomposition, which has been applied to both stochastic programming as well as integer programming problems. However, this method of decomposition relies on convexity of the value function of linear programming subproblems. This paper is devoted to a class of problems in which the second-stage subproblem(s) may impose integer restrictions on some variables. The value function of such integer subproblem(s) is not convex, and new approaches must be designed. In this paper, we discuss alternative decomposition methods in which the second-stage integer subproblems are solved using branch-and-cut methods. One of the main advantages of our decomposition scheme is that Stochastic Mixed-Integer Programming (SMIP) problems can be solved by dividing a large problem into smaller MIP subproblems that can be solved in parallel. This paper lays the foundation for such decomposition methods for two-stage stochastic mixed-integer programs.  相似文献

We investigate a scheme, called pairing, for generating new valid inequalities for mixed integer programs by taking pairwise combinations of existing valid inequalities. The pairing scheme essentially produces a split cut corresponding to a specific disjunction, and can also be derived through the mixed integer rounding procedure. The scheme is in general sequence-dependent and therefore leads to an exponential number of inequalities. For some important cases, we identify combination sequences that lead to a manageable set of non-dominated inequalities. We illustrate the framework for some deterministic and stochastic integer programs and we present computational results showing the efficiency of adding the new generated inequalities as cuts.  相似文献

In classical two-stage stochastic programming the expected value of the total costs is minimized. Recently, mean-risk models - studied in mathematical finance for several decades - have attracted attention in stochastic programming. We consider Conditional Value-at-Risk as risk measure in the framework of two-stage stochastic integer programming. The paper addresses structure, stability, and algorithms for this class of models. In particular, we study continuity properties of the objective function, both with respect to the first-stage decisions and the integrating probability measure. Further, we present an explicit mixed-integer linear programming formulation of the problem when the probability distribution is discrete and finite. Finally, a solution algorithm based on Lagrangean relaxation of nonanticipativity is proposed. Received: April, 2004  相似文献

Stability analysis for stochastic programs   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4
For stochastic programs with recourse and with (several joint) probabilistic constraints, respectively, we derive quantitative continuity properties of the relevant expectation functionals and constraint set mappings. This leads to qualitative and quantitative stability results for optimal values and optimal solutions with respect to perturbations of the underlying probability distributions. Earlier stability results for stochastic programs with recourse and for those with probabilistic constraints are refined and extended, respectively. Emphasis is placed on equipping sets of probability measures with metrics that one can handle in specific situations. To illustrate the general stability results we present possible consequences when estimating the original probability measure via empirical ones.  相似文献

We develop and implement linear formulations of general Nth order stochastic dominance criteria for discrete probability distributions. Our approach is based on a piece-wise polynomial representation of utility and its derivatives and can be implemented by solving a relatively small system of linear inequalities. This approach allows for comparing a given prospect with a discrete set of alternative prospects as well as for comparison with a polyhedral set of linear combinations of prospects. We also derive a linear dual formulation in terms of lower partial moments and co-lower partial moments. An empirical application to historical stock market data suggests that the passive stock market portfolio is highly inefficient relative to actively managed portfolios for all investment horizons and for nearly all investors. The results also illustrate that the mean–variance rule and second-order stochastic dominance rule may not detect market portfolio inefficiency because of non-trivial violations of non-satiation and prudence.  相似文献

Scenarios are indispensable ingredients for the numerical solution of stochastic programs. Earlier approaches to optimal scenario generation and reduction are based on stability arguments involving distances of probability measures. In this paper we review those ideas and suggest to make use of stability estimates based only on problem specific data. For linear two-stage stochastic programs we show that the problem-based approach to optimal scenario generation can be reformulated as best approximation problem for the expected recourse function which in turn can be rewritten as a generalized semi-infinite program. We show that the latter is convex if either right-hand sides or costs are random and can be transformed into a semi-infinite program in a number of cases. We also consider problem-based optimal scenario reduction for two-stage models and optimal scenario generation for chance constrained programs. Finally, we discuss problem-based scenario generation for the classical newsvendor problem.

In this paper, we are concerned with mathematical programs which construct nonmajorizing vectors for several specific majorization applications. In particular, we develop a linear integer program and two integer goal programs which solve the assignment majorization problem. We also develop a quadratic program for solving majorization problems which arise in probability and statistics. In the appendix, we present a general goal-programming algorithm for these, as well as others, goal programs. The authors would like to thank Professor Y. Tong for introducing them to majorization and its applications. They would also like to thank Professors Y. Tong and D. Mesner for helpful discussions.  相似文献

We present a parallel interior point algorithm to solve block structured linear programs. This algorithm can solve block diagonal linear programs with both side constraints (common rows) and side variables (common columns). The performance of the algorithm is investigated on uncapacitated, capacitated and stochastic facility location problems. The facility location problems are formulated as mixed integer linear programs. Each subproblem of the branch and bound phase of the MIP is solved using the parallel interior point method. We compare the total time taken by the parallel interior point method with the simplex method to solve the complete problems, as well as the various costs of reoptimisation of the non-root nodes of the branch and bound. Computational results on two parallel computers (Fujitsu AP1000 and IBM SP2) are also presented in this paper.  相似文献
