Abstract:The one-step synthesis of isobutyraldehyde from methanol and ethanol over a Fe modified V2O5(Fe-V) catalyst prepared by a citric acid method was studied.Under the same reaction conditions,59.0% ethanol conversion and 17.7% isobutyraldehyde selectivity were obtained over V2O5 catalyst,and 8.5% ethanol conversion was achieved on Fe2O3 catalyst.However,by using the Fe-V catalyst,the conversion of ethanol and the selectivity to isobutyraldehyde increased to 84.2% and 43.4%,respectively.It was indicated that Fe could improve the activity of V2O5 catalyst.The XRD,TPR and SEM results showed that both the reduction temperature and the particle size of the Fe-V catalyst were lowered and Fe0.12V2O5.16 phase formed due to the addition of Fe,which led to the increases of the ethanol conversion and isobutyraldehyde selectivity.
