Prostate cancer accounts for one-third of noncutaneous cancers diagnosed in US men and is a leading cause of cancer-related death. Advances in Fourier transform infrared spectroscopic imaging now provide very large data sets describing both the structural and local chemical properties of cells within prostate tissue. Uniting spectroscopic imaging data and computer-aided diagnoses (CADx), our long term goal is to provide a new approach to pathology by automating the recognition of cancer in complex tissue. The first step toward the creation of such CADx tools requires mechanisms for automatically learning to classify tissue types—a key step on the diagnosis process. Here we demonstrate that genetics-based machine learning (GBML) can be used to approach such a problem. However, to efficiently analyze this problem there is a need to develop efficient and scalable GBML implementations that are able to process very large data sets. In this paper, we propose and validate an efficient GBML technique——based on an incremental genetics-based rule learner. exploits massive parallelisms via the message passing interface (MPI) and efficient rule-matching using hardware-implemented operations. Results demonstrate that is capable of performing prostate tissue classification efficiently, making a compelling case for using GBML implementations as efficient and powerful tools for biomedical image processing.  相似文献

为了优化替代眼刺激动物试验的牛角膜浑浊和渗透性(BCOP)实验的方法,提高其适用范围和预测性,选取新鲜牛眼角膜,直接暴露液体化学受试物作用10 min,后孵育2 h并用荧光素钠处理90 min,采用浊度仪检测角膜浑浊度,用酶标仪检测荧光素钠渗透性,同时将角膜常规固定和制备组织学切片,观察组织学病理变化并评分,基于上述3个指标建立预测模型。结果显示,将角膜浑浊度和渗透性2个定量指标,与角膜上皮组织、基质组织和内皮细胞的组织学变化评分进行组合,可对轻微刺激到中等刺激的范围进行准确细分。研究表明,结合组织学观察的优化BCOP方法可提高其预测性,适用于眼刺激机制研究和化妆品评估。  相似文献

This paper proposes a novel integrated spatio‐colour‐texture based graph partitioning method for segmentation of nuclear arrangement in tubules with a lumen or in solid islands without a lumen from digitized Hematoxylin–Eosin stained breast histology images, in order to automate the process of histology breast image analysis to assist the pathologists. We propose a new similarity based super pixel generation method and integrate it with texton representation to form spatio‐colour‐texture map of Breast Histology Image. Then a new weighted distance based similarity measure is used for generation of graph and final segmentation using normalized cuts method is obtained. The extensive experiments carried shows that the proposed algorithm can segment nuclear arrangement in normal as well as malignant duct in breast histology tissue image. For evaluation of the proposed method the ground‐truth image database of 100 malignant and nonmalignant breast histology images is created with the help of two expert pathologists and the quantitative evaluation of proposed breast histology image segmentation has been performed. It shows that the proposed method outperforms over other methods.  相似文献

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the clinical, radiographic and histiopathologic features of multicentric giant cell tumor of bone. Methods: All the clinical data of twenty tumors in nine patients of multicentric giant cell tumor that underwent surgical treatment in our department from 1990 to 2010 were retrospectively reviewed, which included three males and six females. The patients ranged from 15 to 45 years at diagnosis, with an average age of 22.3 years. Three of the patients were younger than twenty years of age. Most tumors arose in long bones, especially around the knee. Radiographically, the tumors in long bones usually manifested as expansive lytic lesions involving the metaphysis and extending into the epiphysis. Three tumors in three patients were confined to the metaphysis, and one tumor exhibited bone-forming lesions. All tumors were treated with curettage or resection. Results: The typical "giant cell" could be found in the oncologic examination in all cases. In some areas, such as the fibrohistiocytic regions, reactive bone forming and aneurysmal bone cyst-like changes could be found. Follow-up averaged 3.5 years, ranging from 6 months to 12 years. There was a recurrence of three tumors, and one patient died of pulmonary metastasis. Conclusion: Multicentric giant cell tumor occur often in younger patients than do solitary giant cell tumor. They are frequently present around the knee, and confined to the metaphysis. Each tumor arose independently, rather than being in multiple sites of metastatic lesion that develop from a single tumor. The risk of recurrence depends on the type of surgery that is performed.  相似文献

In this article, we present a novel method for the automatic 3D reconstruction of thick tissue blocks from 2D histological sections. The algorithm completes a high‐content (multiscale, multifeature) imaging system for simultaneous morphological and molecular analysis of thick tissue samples. This computer‐based system integrates image acquisition, annotation, registration, and three‐dimensional reconstruction. We present an experimental validation of this tool using both synthetic and real data. In particular, we present the 3D reconstruction of an entire mouse mammary gland and demonstrate the integration of high‐resolution molecular data. Microsc. Res. The present study focused to elucidate the promising role of probiotics in the fish culture, by employing microscopic and biochemical parameters to rationalize the possible outcomes. After preliminary feeding trial histopathological analysis revealed clear and visible changes in the intestinal and liver cells of CTRL (control group) compared to probiotics supplemented group, the bacterial inoculations resulted in shorten and swelled villi, while liver kupffer cells increased many folds in the CTRL. Moreover, there was clear hypertrophy and lamellar fusion in the gills tissues examined under microscope. Furthermore, intriguing results were obtained, such as a substantial increase in the weight gain, specific growth rate (%BW/day), FCE%, survival%, and improved secretions of amylase, cellulase, and protease activities. Likewise, high crude protein, fats content, while low moisture and total Ash was noticed in EXP I (Probiotics supplemented) compared to CTRL. The microscopic and biochemical analysis disclosed the positive role of probiotics on the fish health, thus we suggest its supplementations in the fish diet.  相似文献

Skin biopsy for AK diagnosis is usually performed on only a limited part of the whole lesion. Therefore, a clinical diagnosis is important. According to a study, there is no significant correlation between histopathological and clinical classification system. We examined the correlation between microscopic information and dermoscopic findings to deduce if dermoscopic information reflects histopathologic grade severity. Forty seven patients with histologically confirmed AK were enrolled and positive ratio of red pseudonetwork, rosette, red background and targetoid signs, white‐to‐yellow scale, white structureless area, and pigmentation from dermoscopic findings were investigated. Furthermore, viable epidermal thickness, vessel lumen dimensions, existence and thickness of ortho‐ and parakeratosis, degree of sola elastosis, flag sign existence, and Roewert‐Huber classification were measured as histologic findings. Red background did not show a significant correlation with vascular dimension or viable epidermal thickness. When targetoid sign was present, vascular dimension was significantly larger but showed no correlation with viable epidermal thickness, parakeratosis or orthokeratosis. Solar elastosis level was significantly higher when white‐to‐yellow scale was present. According to Spearman's correlation analysis, ortho/parakeratotic thickness showed correlations with each other. The negative correlation between viable epidermal thickness and vascular dimension was also shown. Roewert‐Huber histologic AK classification showed no correlation with any factors we checked. Factors considered to be characteristic features of AK in dermoscopy seemed unassociated with histologic AK classification and additional research is needed to determine degree of dysplasia of AK lesions using dermoscopy.  相似文献
