Effect of Acupuncture on Plasmic Levels of Insulin,Glucagon and Hypercoagulability in NIDDM Complicated by Acute Cerebral Infarction

Twenty-one cases of acute cerebral infarction secondary to NIDDM were treated with acupunctureand conventional therapy,and compared with 16 cases treated with conventional therapy alone.Theresults showed that acupuncture was more effective in reducing insulin and glucagon levels(P<0.001)and improving hypercoagulability(P<0.05) of blood.

To approach the action of modified Yu Ping Feng Tang(玉屏风汤 Jade-Screen Decoction)on cellularimmunity,an experiment was conducted in mice under amputation-induced stress.On the 3rd dayafter amputation,acute atrophy was found in the thymus,the reactivities of T-and B-lymphocytes toCon-A and LPS were decreased,the IL-2 content and its activity reduced and the activity of NK cellslowered.The high,moderate and low concentrations of the modified Yu Ping Feng(YPF)Decoction allhave antagonistic action on the above manifestations of immune inhibition.

The Effect of Xin Mai Tong Capsules in Protecting Survival Cardiac Muscles of the Patients with Acute Myocardial Infarction

To study the effect of Composite Xin Mai Tong capsules (复方心脉通胶囊 CXMT) in protecting survival cardiac muscles in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) after percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA) operation. The treatment with Composite XMT capsules started 3 days prior to the operation and continued for a period of 4 weeks; and its effect on the number of segments of nuclide resting ventricular myocardial imaging, the nuclide defect extension score (ES) and nuclide defect severity score (SS),and the level of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) of circulatory blood were determined and compared with that of the control group. More segments originally scored 1 turning to be scored 2 in nuclide imaging were seen in the treatment group than in the control group; and smaller ES and less SS seen in the former than in the latter group (P＜0.05). Composite XMT capsules play an active role in myocardial salvage by promoting its metabolism and expression of circulatory VEGF. Its angiogenesis-like action helps establish collateral flow and has a positive role in myocardial salvage.     

Treatment of Infantile Bronchiolitis with Jie Jing Ding Chuan Zhi Xiao Tang—— A Report of 45 Cases

Objective： To evaluate the therapeutic effectiveness of Jie Jing Ding Chuan Zhi Xiao Tang （解痉定喘止哮汤 the Tetany- Pant- and Wheeze-relieving Decoction） on infantile bronchiolitis. Method： Seventy-five eligible cases were randomly divided into a treatment group （N = 45） and a control group （N=30）. Patients in the treatment group were treated with Tetany-Pant- and Wheeze-relieving Decoction, the ingredients of which include Su Zi （苏子 Fructus Perillae）, Di Long （地龙 Pheretima）, Qian Hu （前胡 Radix Peucedani）, Bai Qu Cai （白屈菜 Herba Chelidonii）, Ma Huang （麻黄 Herba Ephedrae）, Ku Xing Ren （苦杏仁 Semen Armeniacae Amarum）, Bai Gou （白果 Semen Gingkgo）, Quan Xie （全蝎 Scorpio）, Bai Xian Pi （白鲜皮 Cortex Dictamni）, Jiang Can （僵蚕 Bombyx Batryticatus）, She Gan （射干 Rhizoma Belamcandae） and Dong Hua （冬花 Flos Farfarae）. Patients in the control group were treated with Xiao Er Ke Chun Ling Chong Ji （小儿咳喘灵冲剂 Medicinal Granules for Infantile Cough and Pant）. Result： A total effective rate of 93.3% was achieved in the treatment group and only 73.3% was obtained in the control group. Conclusion： The Tetany- Pant- and Wheeze-relieving Decoction is significantly effective in treating infantile bronchiolitis （P〈0.05）.
