The Comprehensive Female Soldier Support Model

Women represent a small minority in the U.S. military and an even smaller minority in the military chaplaincy. Prior to this study, the U.S. Army chaplaincy did not have a gender-specific model for providing support to women soldiers. In this Delphi research project, wounded women soldiers and female military chaplains provided expert opinions to develop the comprehensive female soldier support model (CFS2). Ten military women and 11 female chaplains who had been deployed overseas contributed to the body of knowledge related to the understanding of the emotional and spiritual support needs of wounded female soldiers. Five key findings appeared in the study: (a) many women did not get the chaplain support they needed; (b) the gender of the chaplain was not significant; (c) the attitude of the chaplain was critical; (d) chaplain skills not found in literature were identified; and (e) the comprehensive female soldier support model was developed.     

Synergism Between N-Formimidoyl Thienamycin and Gentamicin or Tobramycin Against Enterococci

By the time-kill curve method, the combination of N-formimidoyl thienamycin and gentamicin showed synergism against 47 of 48 strains of enterococci, whereas the combination of N-formimidoyl thienamycin and tobramycin was synergistic against 46 strains.     

Longitudinal pathways from early maternal depression to children’s dysregulated representations: a moderated mediation analysis of harsh parenting and gender

There is some evidence linking maternal depression, harsh parenting, and children’s internal representations of attachment, yet, longitudinal examinations of these relationships and differences in the developmental pathways between boys and girls are lacking. Moderated mediation growth curves were employed to examine harsh parenting as a mechanism underlying the link between maternal depression and children’s dysregulated representations using a nationally-representative, economically-vulnerable sample of mothers and their children (n = 575; 49% boys, 51% girls). Dysregulation representations were measured using the MacArthur Story Stem Battery at five years of age (M = 5.14, SD = 0.29). Harsh parenting mediated the association between early maternal depression and dysregulated representations for girls. Though initial harsh parenting was a significant mediator for boys, a stronger direct effect of maternal depression to dysregulated representations emerged over time. Results are discussed in terms of their implications for intervention efforts aimed at promoting early supportive parenting.     

Incontinentia Pigmenti with Persistent Hypercalcemia: Case Report

Incontinentia pigmenti (IP) is an X‐linked dominant disorder that in most cases is considered lethal in males. IP affects the skin, hair, teeth, nails, eyes, and central nervous system. We report a case of persistent hypercalcemia (10.6–11.3 mg/dL) in a 19‐month‐old Caucasian boy with clinical IP. The proposed mechanism for his hypercalcemia is discussed.
