40 snake-phobic females were matched on degree of behavioral avoidance and subjective fear, and then randomly assigned to 1 of 4 groups: (1) a conventional desensitization group, using standard interpersonal procedures; (2) a semiautomated desensitization group in which treatment was delivered by tape recordings; (3) a pseudodesensitization control group; or (4) a no-treatment control group. Ss in both desensitization groups showed significantly greater improvement than did Ss in either of the 2 control groups. No differences were found between conventional and semiautomated procedures. It is concluded that the relationship is neither a primary nor critical factor in desensitization. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2010 APA, all rights reserved) 相似文献

Responds to A. Boneau and W. Simmons's (1970) status report on accreditation in clinical training and urges innovative programs within the framework of the established psychological specialties. This goal may be achieved by outlining the direction within a specialty and developing core courses. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2010 APA, all rights reserved) 相似文献

While I am in full sympathy with the theme of "Preprints Anonymous" (see record 1990-56809-001) and the undoubtedly good intents of its authors' invitation for joining the movement, I think that the underlying purpose will be served more effectively and fairly if APA journals make it a rule that, whenever practicable, no articles submitted for publication would carry the names of their authors when sent to consulting editors. It seems to me that some members of the group who are being combated by the Preprint Anonymous movement may, not unjustifiably, be frustrated by the near nepotism of the APA editors and their consultants, which according to Schaeffer (1970), is not a proven fact but which, in my opinion, does leave doubt that favoritism exists. 50 snake-phobic female Ss were matched on degree of behavioral avoidance and subjective fear and then randomly assigned to 1 of 3 desensitization or 2 control groups: (a) imagined stimuli presented in order of increasing aversiveness, (b) stimuli presented in a decreasingly aversive order, (c) random order presentation, (d) pseudodesensitization, and (e) no-treatment control. Ss in the 3 desensitization groups showed significantly greater improvement than did Ss in either control group. While no differences were found between Ss exposed to an increasingly aversive hierarchy and Ss who received a decreasing order, the random order tended to be less effective than the other 2. An ascending aversive order of stimulus presentations is not an essential and integral part of successful desensitization. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2010 APA, all rights reserved) 相似文献
