Abstract We propose a method for studying the modification of atomic collision rates in the presence of an intense laser field. This method employs a three-level lambda-system driven by two laser pulses: one strong and the other weak. The weak laser is used to populate a particular dressed state produced by the intense laser at some time during the pulse history. We show that this point can be selected by tuning the frequency of the weak laser. The spectrum of the emission produced by the dressed state is then recorded. Measuring this spectrum, both in the presence and in the absence of collisions, enables one to deduce the dependence of the collision rates on laser intensity. Factors influencing migration from the gaskets of metal closures into oily foods were investigated. Tightening of the lid has an effect presumably through the deformation of the gasket, the amount of oil adhering to the latter, and the proportion of its surface being covered by oil. The substantial difference observed in the migration determined with the jar in an upright or a reversed position is partly related to this. The nature of the plasticizer determines the saturation in the partitioning process between the gasket and the small amount of oil in contact with the gasket as well as the adherence of oil (wettability). If saturation is rapidly reached, the frequency of exchanging the oil by shaking of the jar is an important factor. A complete exchange of the oil in contact with the gasket requires vigorous and persisting shaking, presumably because of the high viscosity and the hindered access to the angle between the gasket and the jar rim. The limited data available on long-term performance suggest that migration accelerates after roughly one year of storage. It is concluded that the extrapolation of long-term migration from short-term data presupposes a deeper investigation of the course of migration over years. 相似文献

The influence of microwave power (0 to 8.0 W/g, dry basis) and hot air temperature (25°C to 95 °C) on drying rate and product temperature of diced apples (from 31 % to 5% moisture content, dry basis) in a laboratory microwave and spouted-bed combined dryer was investigated. Product temperature initially increased sharply to a plateau about 12 to 15°C above the spouted bed air temperature at a microwave input power 6.4 W/g. This temperature remained almost constant thereafter. Uniform microwave heating was achieved as evidenced by uniform product color and product temperature. Drying rates increased with increasing spouted-bed air temperature or microwave power level, But higher microwave power caused more darkening of the product. Drying of the diced apples in the microwave and spouted bed drying system exhibited two falling rates periods. The influence of air temperature on effective moisture diffusivity followed an Arrhenius type equation. The activation energies were 23.7 kJ/mol and 26.7 kJ/mol for the first and second falling rate periods, respectively. 相似文献

We report an application of Kalman filtering to the inverted pendulum (IP) of the Virgo gravitational wave interferometer. Using subspace method system identification techniques, we calculated a linear mechanical model of Virgo IP from experimental transfer functions. We then developed a Kalman filter, based on the obtained state space representation, that estimates from open loop time domain data, the state variables of the system. This allows the observation (and eventually control) of every resonance mode of the IP mechanical structure independently. 相似文献

Cordierite disks were obtained by slip casting and sintering at 1,450 °C for 2 h. Sintered disks were indented at the center
of one flat surface. The fracture strength of indented disks was measured in biaxial flexure. The critical temperature differential
was determined by sudden cooling of the center of the indented surface at high temperature, using a high-velocity air jet
at room temperature. The initial temperature was successively increased by 10 °C until crack propagation was detected with
the naked eye. Temperature and stress distributions during air impinging were calculated by a finite element analysis. The
heat transfer coefficient was estimated by fitting experimental temperature profiles. A radial variation of the coefficient

We describe an apparatus for attosecond photoelectron spectroscopy of solids and surfaces, which combines the generation of isolated attosecond extreme-ultraviolet (XUV) laser pulses by high harmonic generation in gases with time-resolved photoelectron detection and surface science techniques in an ultrahigh vacuum environment. This versatile setup provides isolated attosecond pulses with photon energies of up to 140 eV and few-cycle near infrared pulses for studying ultrafast electron dynamics in a large variety of surfaces and interfaces. The samples can be prepared and characterized on an atomic scale in a dedicated flexible surface science end station. The extensive possibilities offered by this apparatus are demonstrated by applying attosecond XUV pulses with a central photon energy of ~125 eV in an attosecond streaking experiment of a xenon multilayer grown on a Re(0001) substrate. 相似文献

This paper presents the use of Hopfield-type neural networks for process scheduling in the area of factory automation, where bus-based communication systems, called FieldBuses, are widely used to connect sensors and actuators to the control systems. We show how it overcomes the problem of the computational complexity of the algorithmic solution. The neural model proposed allows several processes to be scheduled simultaneously; the time required is polynomial with respect to the number of processes being scheduled. This feature allows real-time process scheduling and makes it possible for the scheduling table to adapt to changes in process control features. The paper presents the neural model for process scheduling and assesses its computational complexity, pointing out the drastic reduction in the time needed to generate a schedule as compared with the algorithmic scheduling solution. Finally, the authors propose an on-line scheduling strategy based on the neural model which can achieve real-time adaptation of the scheduling table to changes in the manufacturing environment. 相似文献

Actions of thyroid hormones (THs) are determined by intracellular free hormone concentration. Here we report that enhanced TH extrusion via a saturable, cold-sensitive mechanism lowers intracellular TH and causes TH resistance in hepatoma cells. Since these cells overexpress multidrug resistance P-glycoproteins and TH extrusion and resistance are blunted by verapamil, P-glycoproteins may mediate this resistance. Verapamil-inhibitable TH efflux was also found in primary hepatocytes, cardiocytes, and fibroblasts. These findings demonstrate that TH extrusion can modulate TH availability and action in mammalian cells. 相似文献

A micromechanical model for predicting the densification of particulate matter under hydrostatic loading was developed to account for the time-dependent response of materials to applied loads. Viscoelastic material response used in the analysis was based upon a standard three-parameter rheological model. Compaction data under closed die conditions were collected using an Instron analyzer for different rates of applied load. Densification during the loading phase of PMMA/coMMA powder, a pharmaceutical polymeric coating material, was well predicted by the proposed algorithm, which contrasts with the prediction implied through a static indentation model.
