Individual organic compounds can be used as tracers for primary sources of ambient particulate matter (PM) in chemical mass balance receptor models. Previous work has examined PM2.5 only and usually over long sampling periods encompassing entire days or longer. In this study, a high-flow-rate, low-pressure-drop ultrafine particle separator was deployed to collect sufficient mass for organic speciation of ultrafine and accumulation mode aerosol on a diurnal basis. Particles between 0.18 and 2.5 microm in diameter were collected on a quartz-fiber impaction substrate, and ultrafine particles below 0.18 microm were collected downstream on a high-volume filter. Four daily time period samples (morning, midday, evening, and overnight) were sampled over five weekdays to form a weekly average composite for each diurnal period. Sampling was conducted at two sites over two seasons; summer (August) and winter (January) samples were collected at both an urban site near downtown Los Angeles (University of Southern California) and a downwind, inland site in Riverside, CA. Hopanes, used as organic markers for vehicular emissions, were found to exist primarily in the ultrafine mode. Levoglucosan, an indicator of wood combustion, was quantified in both size ranges, but more was present in the accumulation mode particles. An indicator of photochemical secondary organic aerosol formation, 1,2-benzenedicarboxylic acid, was found primarily in the accumulation mode and varied with site, season, and time of day as one would expect for a photochemical product. The atmospheric variations of particulate cholesterol and other organic acids were also considered. By examining the diurnal variation, size-fractionation, and intercorrelations of individual organic compounds, the sources and atmospheric fate of these tracers can be better understood and their utility as molecular markers can be assessed.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose a novel two-stage algorithm for the detection and removal of random-valued impulse noise using sparse representations. The main aim of the paper is to demonstrate the strength of image inpainting technique for the reconstruction of images corrupted by random-valued impulse noise at high noise densities. First, impulse locations are detected by applying the combination of sparse denoising and thresholding, based on sparse and overcomplete representations of the corrupted image. This stage optimally selects threshold values so that the sum of the number of false alarms and missed detections obtained at a particular noise level is the minimum. In the second stage, impulses, detected in the first stage, are considered as the missing pixels or holes and subsequently these holes are filled-up using an image inpainting method. Extensive simulation results on standard gray scale images show that the proposed method successfully removes random-valued impulse noise with better preservation of edges and other details compared to the existing techniques at high noise ratios.  相似文献

A study was conducted to see the effect of different moisture content of withered leaf on the activity of oxidative enzymes polyphenoloxidase (PPO) and peroxidase (PO) and on the formation of theaflavins (TFs) and thearubigins (TRs). Six commercially popular cultivars TV1, TV7, TV9, TV23, TV26 and T.3E/3 of Assam, India, were processed in four different moisture levels (72%, 70%, 68% and 65%). Significant reduction in PPO and PO enzymes, TFs, TRs and theaflavin digallate equivalent was observed with the decrease in moisture content of withered leaf. The TFs (0.83–5.4 mg g?1) and TRs (23–107 mg g?1) fractions were lowest at moisture level 65 ± 1%. Of the six cultivars studied, better quality of black tea was obtained for cultivar TV1, TV9 and TV23 at 70 ± 1% moisture content, while for TV7 and TV26, it was 68 ± 1%. Withered leaf moisture content should be carefully chosen to obtain the better quality tea from specific cultivar.  相似文献
