A number of caribou and muskoxen samples from the western Alaskan Arctic and fish samples from the Aleutian Islands were collected between 1998 and 2006 and analyzed for anthropogenic (90Sr and 137Cs) and natural radionculides (40 K, 210Pb and 226Ra), as part of the radiological assessment for the regional subsistence hunting communities in the first half of 2000s. We examined the relationship between the activities of these nuclides with the size of the fish. In caribou samples, concentration of 90Sr in muscle was below the detection limit of 0.14 Bq kg− 1 and 137Cs concentration in bones was below the detection limit of 0.15 Bq kg− 1.137Cs activity varied over an order of magnitude in caribou muscle samples with an average value of 2.5 Bq/kg wet wt. Average 137Cs activity in muskoxen muscle was found to be 9.7 Bq/kg wet wt. However, there were a little variation (less than 60%) in 210Pb, 40 K, and 226Ra in both muscle and bone of both caribou and muskoxen. The activities of total 210Pb in caribou and muskox bones were found to be 1-2 orders of magnitude higher than that of parent-supported 210Pb indicating the potential for dating of bones of terrestrial mammals (time elapsed since the death of the animal) based on the excess 210Pb method exists. In fish muscle samples, 137Cs activity varied from below detection limit to 154 mBq/kg wet wt. and its content increased with the size of the fish due to its transfer through the food chain. Among the seven fish species investigated, 210Pb activities varied almost an order of magnitude; however, 40K and 226Ra activities varied less than a factor of two. Total annual effective dose due to 90Sr and 137Cs from the ingestion of those terrestrial and marine meats was estimated to be negligible (ca. 9 μSV/a) compared to the natural radionuclides present thus posing negligible radiological threat to humans.  相似文献

Intestinal carotenoid absorption is greatly affected by dietary factors. In this study, it was hypothesized that lipids with varying functional groups may influence differentially lutein bioavailability. Hence, the influence of glyco‐, phospho‐, neutral, crude (mixture of lipids) lipids, or mixed micelles (control) on the percent lutein micellarization in vitro and its postprandial plasma, liver, and eye response in mice were investigated. Results show that the percent micellarization of lutein with crude lipids and glycolipids were higher (91.4 and 45.7%) than control, while no significant difference was found between phospho‐ and neutral lipids. The mean plasma response of lutein was higher for crude‐ (6 times), glyco‐ (3 times), phospho‐ (2.7 times), and neutral (2 times) lipid than control (12.4 ± 1.18 nmol/mL 8 h?1) group. Lutein levels (pmol/g) in liver were higher in crude (7.4 ± 1) and phospho‐ (3.6 ± 0.8) lipid groups while in eyes it was higher in glyco‐ (54.0) and neutral (21.2) lipid groups than control. The influential effect of glyco‐ and phospholipids may be due to smaller micellar size (glyco‐upto 3.43 µm, phospho‐ upto 5.78 µm) than the neutral lipids (upto 66 µm). Ingestion of lutein with glycolipid or phospholipids may improve lutein bioavailability. Practical applications: The findings of the present study will be useful in nutritional and biomedical applications for feeding lutein with specific lipid combinations to achieve enhanced lutein absorption. Specifically, feeding diet/emulsion with lutein and glyco‐ and phospholipid combination may reduce the risk of macular degeneration, owing to the influential effect of these lipids on intestinal absorption of lutein.  相似文献

Digital watermarking is the process of hiding information into a digital signal to authenticate the contents of digital data. There are number of watermarking algorithm implemented in software and few in hardware. This paper discusses the implementation of robust invisible binary image watermarking algorithm in Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) and Application Specific Integrated Circuits (ASIC) using connectivity preserving criteria. The algorithm is processed in spatial domain. The algorithm is prototyped in (i) XILINX FPGA (ii) 130 nm ASIC. The algorithm is tested in Virtex-E (xcv50e-8-cs144) FPGA and implemented in an ASIC.  相似文献

Lutein and zeaxanthin are selectively accumulated in the macula of the retina, yet their bioavailability is influenced by various dietary factors. Insights regarding the effects of dietary lipids on lutein micellization that is available for absorption are limited. This study investigated the influence of vegetable oils on the relative efficiency of lutein micellization using in vitro digestion procedure. Lutein dispersed in either olive oil (OO), corn oil (CO), soybean oil (SBO), sunflower oil (SFO), groundnut oil (GNO), rice bran oil (RBO) or palm oil (PO) was subjected to simulated gastric and small intestinal digestion. Results showed that the efficiency of micellization of lutein dispersed in olive oil exceeds the other vegetable oils. The percent lutein micellization was in the order of OO > GNO > RBO > SFO > CO > SBO > PO. In comparison, the values for OO were higher than GNO (11%), RBO (18.3%), SFO (19%), CO (21.7%), SBO (30.5%) and PO (35.2%), respectively. These results suggest that OO rich in oleic acid may favor the incorporation of lutein into micelles at the intestinal level. To conclude, the type of vegetable oil in which carotenoids are dispersed is important to achieve an enhanced bioavailable lutein. The correlation between the micellizable lutein and fatty acid composition of vegetable oils are discussed.  相似文献

This study reports carotenoid composition of vegetables (n = 56), cereals (n = 12), pulses and legumes (n = 12), analysed by HPLC. It was hypothesised that food grains, like vegetables may be good sources of carotenoids. Amongst vegetables, higher level (mg/100 g dry weight) of lutein (210–419) was detected in green/red/capsicum and yellow zucchini, whilst zeaxanthin was dominant in kenaf (4.59). β‐Carotene (mg/100 g dry weight) was higher in green capsicum and kenaf (48,159) whilst carrot, ivy gourd and green capsicum contain α‐carotene (22–110). Amongst food grains, chickpea, split red gram and flaxseed contain higher levels (μg/100 g dry weight) of lutein (185–200) whilst zeaxanthin level was highest in puffed chickpea (1.8). Red unpolished parboiled rice was richest (μg/100 g dry weight) in β‐carotene (67.6) whilst whole black gram contained higher levels of α‐carotene (52.7). Thus, results indicate that chickpea and red unpolished parboiled rice are good sources of carotenoids. These carotenoid‐rich vegetables and grains may be exploited to meet the lutein and β‐carotene requirement.  相似文献

The carotenoid levels in Indian spices of nutritional and medicinal importance were determined using high performance liquid chromatography. Lutein (L) and zeaxanthin (Z) levels (mg/100 g dry wt) in curry leaves (27.34), spearmint (18.0), green chilli (13.74), coriander leaves (9.92) and mustard seeds (1.2) were higher (2–22-fold) than mace, anise seeds, onion, fenugreek seeds and carum seeds (0.62 and 0.85) whilst their levels in cumin seeds, black pepper, green cardamom and coriander seeds were in the range of 0.32–0.47. β-Carotene (mg/100 g dry wt) was higher in coriander leaves (67.5), green chilli (9.06), curry leaves (8.95) and spearmint (7.5) than black cardamom (0.22) and coriander seeds (0.22), respectively. Neoxanthin, violaxanthin and α-carotene levels were also discussed. Spices analysed are a better source of L + Z than β-carotene (except for coriander leaves). Usage of spices as an adjuvant in food preparations also provides L + Z as antioxidants.  相似文献

Magnetic flux leakage technique is used for defect detection inside a magnetically permeable bar by measuring the leakage fields outside the bar. Defects of varying sizes in a magnetically permeable bar have been modelled as localized anti-dipoles with different moments. These defect locations and moments have to be determined based on the measurement of the leakage fields in the presence of random noise. Multiple Signal Classification (MUSIC) approach has been used to identify the defect locations and the moments of these defects. After finding the location of the first dipole representing the larger defect, using orthogonal projection of the measured magnetic field data away from the first defect location, location of the next dipole is identified by MUSIC. This process is continued until all the defects are exhausted. The leakage fields from three deeply buried defects were simulated by direct forward calculation and the resulting data were utilized for inversion using this approach. It has been possible to identify the number of defects and their locations by this approach even in the presence of reasonable levels of additive noise.  相似文献
