Columnar liquid crystals (LCs) are found to spontaneously form homeotropically‐aligned films when deposited on surfaces fabricated via friction transfer of polytetrafluoroethylene. The inside cover schematically shows the film structure of a phthalocyanine derivative together with the corresponding X‐ray diffraction pattern (inset). The results, reported on p. 815 by Dmitri Ivanov and co‐workers, indicate that not only are the columns homeotropically oriented but also that they form a single monodomain of macroscopic size. These findings can have an important impact for fabrication of LC‐based organic solar cells.  相似文献

Applications in industry often have grown and improved over many years. Since their performance demands increase, they also need to benefit from the availability of multi-core processors. However, a reimplementation from scratch and even a restructuring of these industrial applications is very expensive, often due to high certification efforts. Therefore, a strategy for a systematic parallelization of legacy code is needed. We present a parallelization approach for hard real-time systems, which ensures a high reusage of legacy code and preserves timing analysability. To show its applicability, we apply it on the core algorithm of an avionics application as well as on the control program of a large construction machine. We create models of the legacy programs showing the potential of parallelism, optimize them and change the source codes accordingly. The parallelized applications are placed on a predictable multi-core processor with up to 18 cores. For evaluation, we compare the worst case execution times and their speedups. Furthermore, we analyse limitations coming up at the parallelization process.  相似文献

In June 2003, a large scale injection experiment started at the Continental Deep Drilling site (KTB) in Germany. A tiltmeter array was installed which consisted of five high resolution borehole tiltmeters of the ASKANIA type, also equipped with three dimensional seismometers. For the next 11 months, 86 000 m(3) were injected into the KTB pilot borehole 4000 m deep. The average injection rate was approximately 200 l/min. The research objective was to observe and to analyze deformation caused by the injection into the upper crust at the kilometer range. A new data acquisition system was developed by Geo-Research Center Potsdam (GFZ) to master the expected huge amount of seismic and tilt data. Furthermore, it was necessary to develop a new preprocessing software called PREANALYSE for long-period time series. This software includes different useful functions, such as step and spike correction, interpolation, filtering, and spectral analysis. This worldwide unique installation offers the excellent opportunity of the separation of signals due to injection and due to environment by correlation of the data of the five stations with the ground water table and meteorological data.  相似文献

Kinetic properties of a native, neuronal glutamate transporter were studied by using rapid applications of glutamate to outside-out patches excised from Purkinje neurons. Pulses of glutamate activated anion currents associated with the transporter that were weakly antagonized by the transporter antagonist kainate. In addition, kainate blocked a resting anion conductance observed in the absence of glutamate. Transporter currents in response to glutamate concentration jumps under a variety of conditions were used to construct a cyclic kinetic model of the transporter. The model simulates both the anion conductance and the glutamate flux through the transporter, thereby permitting several predictions regarding the dynamics of glutamate transport at the synapse. For example, the concentration-dependent binding rate of glutamate to the transporter is high, similar to binding rates suggested for ligand-gated glutamate receptors. At saturating glutamate concentrations, transporters cycle at a steady-state rate of 13/sec. Transporters are predicted to have a high efficiency; once bound, a glutamate molecule is more likely to be transported than to unbind. Physiological concentrations of internal sodium and glutamate significantly slow net transport. Finally, a fixed proportion of anion and glutamate flux is expected over a wide range of circumstances, providing theoretical support for using net charge flux to estimate the amount and time course of glutamate transport.  相似文献

The shikimate pathway presents an attractive target for malaria chemotherapy. Three shikimic acid analogs exhibited different effects on Plasmodium falciparum growth. (6R)-6-Fluoro-shikimate and (6S)-6-fluoro-shikimate inhibited growth (50% inhibitory concentrations, 1.5 x 10(-5) and 2.7 x 10(-4) M, respectively), whereas 2-fluoro-shikimate had no effect. para-Aminobenzoic acid abrogated the inhibition, demonstrating that the shikimate pathway was specifically targeted.  相似文献

The primary objective of this investigation was to determine the effect of endotoxin on islet xenograft survival within the first three days after transplantation. Pancreatic islets from Lewis rats were prepared under endotoxin-free conditions with Liberase (Boehringer) and purified by centrifugation on endotoxin-free Ficoll/Histopaque. After overnight incubation, with or without 10 microg/ml endotoxin, the islets were transplanted beneath the kidney capsule of normoglycemic C57Bl/6-mice. Three days later, kidneys were removed and their insulin content were measured. We could demonstrate significant differences (P<0.01) in insulin recovery between lipopolysaccharide-free and lipopolysaccharide-containing grafts. In case of endotoxin contaminated islets, we found only 13+/-2% (n=9) of the original insulin content, in contrast to 53+/-7% (n=9) when endotoxin-free islets where grafted. In experiments with islets isolated by use of conventional (lipopolysaccharide-containing) collagenase, and then cultured in endotoxin-free medium, insulin recovery three days after transplantation was 36+/-1% (n=13).  相似文献
