A control strategy is developed to control molecular weight of recycled poly(ethylene terephthalate), PET, to overcome its degradation through an extrusion process. To obtain dynamic model of a twin screw extruder, steady‐state, and unsteady‐state experiments were performed. Discrete convolution models between inputs and outputs were obtained. Process inputs were considered as screw speed (SS), feed rate, and barrel temperatures and the output was viscosity average molecular weight (Mv) of the extrudate. SS and molecular weight of the product were chosen as the manipulated, controlled variable pair by considering singular value decomposition (SVD) technique. Model based PID controller and model predictive controller were used in the designed control scheme. By the simulation studies, both controllers were found to be successful for set‐point tracking, disturbance rejection cases; and were proven to be robust under modeling errors. POLYM. ENG. This work is concerned with the use of aminolysis, aminoglycolysis, and simultaneous aminolysis–hydrolysis products of waste PET for production of paint binder based on alkyd resin. For this purpose, first, aminolysis, aminoglycolysis, and simultaneous hydrolysis–aminolysis reactions of waste PET were carried out in the presence of different chemical agents in xylene medium at high pressures. Reactions of waste PET flakes obtained from grinding postconsumer water bottles were carried out in an autoclave at higher temperatures. Then, four alkyd resins, formulated to have oil content 40–50%, were prepared using these depolymerization products. One of resins is “reference alkyd resin” which was prepared by using soybean oil fatty acid, phthalic anhydride, glycerine, and ethylene glycol for comparison. Other three alkyds are “depolymerization product‐based alkyd resins” in which depolymerization products is used instead of ethylene glycol. Then, the physical and chemical surface coating properties and thermal behaviors of alkyd resins films were investigated comparatively. As a result, we concluded that aminolysis, aminoglycolysis, and simultaneous aminolysis‐hydrolysis products of waste PET are suitable for manufacturing both air drying and oven curing paint binder based on alkyd resins. The film prepared from alkyd resin based on simultaneous aminolysis‐hydrolysis product showed extremely good surface coating properties and thermal stability. POLYM. ENG. By environmental literature conducted recently, it has been evidently comprehended that urban life quality for mankind and others can be improved by serving these systems with green and living elements. This study is to investigate urban rocky habitats that have special natural characteristics and that can be implicated for urban green areas. But these habitats have been considered as nature splits withstanding against the urban pressures by means of the unplanned build-up activities foremost, and road construction, poor quality or neglected remnants. Therefore, this study presents the environmental perception and preferences of urban rocky habitats which are threatening within excessive urbanization and human use of natural areas in the context of the city of Trabzon, Turkey. So, a total of 20 habitats selected from urban and surroundings were surveyed by using a questionnaire and landscape assessment approach. With surveying performed on 204 participants, visual preferences, landscape attributes and proposed management options for urban nature conservation were determined. The χ2χ2-test results revealed clearly that the demographic and expertise status of the participants were correlated with the preferences for types of rocky habitat scene and management options. The scenes with natural elements and less human disturbance obtained higher scores on visual preferences than any of the urban rocky scenes lacking these characteristics. Also, in the quantitative phase, factor analysis based on principal component structure revealed the ‘visual and spatial effects’, the ‘usage and arrangement’, the ‘naturalness and ecological value’, and the ‘functionality’ components of the scenes. Consequently, some implications for the effective and efficient planning and development of urban nature conservation by assisting the better understanding of the various patterns of landscape preference, choice and satisfaction in habitats under the present study were suggested.  相似文献

We investigate how multi‐hop routing affects the goodput and throughput performances of IEEE 802.11 distributed coordination function‐based wireless networks compared with direct transmission (single hopping), when medium access control dynamics such as carrier sensing, collisions, retransmissions, and exponential backoff are taken into account under hidden terminal presence. We propose a semi‐Markov chain‐based goodput and throughput model for IEEE 802.11‐based wireless networks, which works accurately with both multi‐hopping and single hopping for different network topologies and over a large range of traffic loads. Results show that, under light traffic, there is little benefit of parallel transmissions and both single‐hop and multi‐hop routing achieve the same end‐to‐end goodput. Under moderate traffic, concurrent transmissions are favorable as multi‐hopping improves the goodput up to 730% with respect to single hopping for dense networks. At heavy traffic, multi‐hopping becomes unstable because of increased packet collisions and network congestion, and single‐hopping achieves higher network layer goodput compared with multi‐hop routing. As for the link layer throughput is concerned, multi‐hopping increases throughput 75 times for large networks, whereas single hopping may become advantageous for small networks. The results point out that the end‐to‐end goodput can be improved by adaptively switching between single hopping and multi‐hopping according to the traffic load and topology. Due to ever increasing global energy demand and the limited nature of fossil fuel reserves, there has been tremendous research and development studies in the literature, focusing on alternative and clean energy resources and systems. Renewables are the promising choice when it comes to addressing some critical energy issues such as climate change and energy security. However, renewables have intermittent and discontinuous supplies; hence, they need to be stored in ways that are affordable, reliable, flexible, clean, safe, and efficient. As a result, energy storage is becoming a crucial step to build innovative energy systems for a sustainable future. Energy can be stored in many forms, from electrical to chemical (eg, hydrogen), or electrochemical, thermal, electromagnetic, etc. Each form consists of different technologies, some of which are already commercially mature while others are at early research and development stages. Each of these options can be tailored to meet different end users' needs at different scales. Therefore, this study aims to conduct a comprehensive review on the most recent status of energy storage options, along with the requirements of various end users, and characteristics of smart energy storage systems. The main objective is to summarize the performance evaluation statuses of mechanical, electrochemical, chemical, thermal, and electromagnetic energy storage technologies. The selected performance measures are capacity flexibility, energy arbitrage, system balancing, congestion management, environmental impact, and power quality. In the end, some key recommendations and future directions for energy storage systems are provided.  相似文献

The unsteady magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) flow of a viscous, incompressible and electrically conducting fluid in a rectangular duct with a perturbed boundary, is investigated. A small boundary perturbation ε is applied on the upper wall of the duct which is encountered in the visualization of the blood flow in constricted arteries. The MHD equations which are coupled in the velocity and the induced magnetic field are solved with no-slip velocity conditions and by taking the side walls as insulated and the Hartmann walls as perfectly conducting. Both the domain boundary element method (DBEM) and the dual reciprocity boundary element method (DRBEM) are used in spatial discretization with a backward finite difference scheme for the time integration. These MHD equations are decoupled first into two transient convection–diffusion equations, and then into two modified Helmholtz equations by using suitable transformations. Then, the DBEM or DRBEM is used to transform these equations into equivalent integral equations by employing the fundamental solution of either steady-state convection–diffusion or modified Helmholtz equations. The DBEM and DRBEM results are presented and compared by equi-velocity and current lines at steady-state for several values of Hartmann number and the boundary perturbation parameter.  相似文献

A new method for synthesis of titanium dioxide (TiO2)-dye nanoparticles is reported. TiO2 nanocrystals were obtained at 150 and 200 °C by using chemically bonded TiO2-sensitizer dye as a precursor. Titanium tetraisopropoxide was first modified with a dye molecule and then precipitated by dropping into acidic water. A strongly colored precipitate was obtained. Hydrothermal growth of a colloidal solution was carried out in a Teflon-lined stainless steel autoclave. Dye sensitized solar cell efficiencies obtained were comparable and fill factor values were close to the analogous cells prepared by the use of conventional TiO2 paste techniques. This method allows the use of different substrates together with nanocrystalline TiO2 for many technological applications.  相似文献
