The experimental study in this paper focuses on the effects of the layer orientation and sample shape on failure strength and fracture pattern of samples tested under Brazilian test conditions(i.e.diametrical loading of cylindrical discs)for one particular layered sandstone which is from Modave in the south of Belgium.The variations of the strength in combination with the failure patterns are examined as a function of the inclination angle between the layer plane and the loading direction.The experimental,results clearly show that the induced fracture patterns are a combination of tensile and/or shear fractures.In shape effect experiments the layer thickness and the number of layer boundaries are investigated.Different blocks of Modave sandstone are used to prepare samples.The layer thickness is different among the various blocks,but the layer thickness in each studied rock block can be considered to be constant;hence,the number of layer boundaries changes according to the sample diameter for samples of the same block.The experimental study shows that the layer thickness plays a more important role than the number of layer boundaries per sample.  相似文献

While nitrogen (N) and potassium (K) fertilizers are commonly used in tomato fields for increasing plant growth and productivity, concepts regarding the interactive effects of these elements on tomato fruit quality during storage are ambiguous. The interactive effects of potassium (0, 250 and 500 mg kg soil??1) and nitrogen (0, 150 and 300 mg kg soil??1) fertilizers were tested on tomato fruit size at harvest, and their quality was evaluated after 30 days of storage at 4 °C. Fruit mass, firmness, taste-related parameters, inorganic nutrients, bioactive compounds, and antioxidative capacity of the fruits were investigated after the storage period. Application of 250–500 mg K in combination with 150 mg N per kg soil improved fruit mass at harvest and reduced loss of mass during storage. By increasing the soil’s K supply, the fruits exhibited significant increases in their amount of potassium, TSS and TA contents, antioxidative capacity, concentrations of lycopene, phenolics and ascorbic acid. Nonetheless, increasing the soil’s K concentration reduced Ca concentration and firmness of the fruits. By increasing the N concentration in the soil, a trend of decline was observed in the fruits’ TSS, soluble phenolics, lycopene and ascorbic acid contents. However, higher amounts of N and TA contents were detected in fruits treated with 300 mg N kg soil??1. N treatments did not affect the antioxidative capacity of the fruits. Accordingly, application of 250 mg K?+?150 mg N kg soil??1 was suggested as the optimum treatment that could yield tomato fruits with high quality and that would also have improved storage capability.  相似文献

The experimental research in this paper focuses at macro-scale on the effect of the layer orientation on failure strength and fractures induced by the Brazilian tensile test for one particular sandstone—sandstone from Modave in the South of Belgium. The variation in the strength, the applied energy and the failure pattern are examined as a function of the inclination angle between the layer plane and the loading direction. For each sample, the length of fractures parallel to the layers, as well as corresponding to other directions, is measured. The reductionist approach has dominated the fields of biology and medicine for nearly a century. Here, we present a systems science approach to the analysis of physiological waveforms in the context of a specific case, cardiovascular physiology. Our goal in this study is to introduce a methodology that allows for novel insight into cardiovascular physiology and to show proof of concept for a new index for the evaluation of the cardiovascular system through pressure wave analysis. This methodology uses a modified version of sparse time–frequency representation (STFR) to extract two dominant frequencies we refer to as intrinsic frequencies (IFs; ω1 and ω2). The IFs are the dominant frequencies of the instantaneous frequency of the coupled heart + aorta system before the closure of the aortic valve and the decoupled aorta after valve closure. In this study, we extract the IFs from a series of aortic pressure waves obtained from both clinical data and a computational model. Our results demonstrate that at the heart rate at which the left ventricular pulsatile workload is minimized the two IFs are equal (ω1 = ω2). Extracted IFs from clinical data indicate that at young ages the total frequency variation (Δω = ω1ω2) is close to zero and that Δω increases with age or disease (e.g. heart failure and hypertension). While the focus of this paper is the cardiovascular system, this approach can easily be extended to other physiological systems or any biological signal.  相似文献

A new copper carbon paste electrode (CPE) based on incorporation bis(2, 4-dihydroxybenzyliden)-1,6-diaminohexane (DHBDAH) in graphite powder matrix has been described. The influence of variables including an amount of graphite, sodium tetraphenylborate (NaTPB), DHBDAH and nujol on the Cu2+ carbon paste electrode response was studied and optimized. The optimum carbon paste composition was set as follows, graphite powder: NaTPB: Nujol: DHBDAH with amount of 150:2.3:30:4 mg, respectively. At the optimum conditions, the potential response is linear over the concentration range of 5.0 × 10? 8 to 1.0 × 10? 1 mol L? 1 with a Nernstian slope of 29.5 ± 1.1 mV per decade of Cu2+ ion concentration. The good performance of electrode such as low detection limit of (LOD) (4 × 10? 8 mol L? 1), wide applicable pH range (2.5–5.5), fast response time (?10 s) and adequate shelf life (69 days) indicate the utility of the proposed electrode for evaluation of Cu2+ ion content in various analysis. Due to moderate potentiometric selectivity coefficients of proposed electrode obtained by fixed interference method (FIM) and separate solution method (SSM), the proposed electrode successfully can be applied for the determination of Cu2+ ions content in some real samples.  相似文献
