A system for performing television monitoring of the position of the synchrotron radiation beam is discussed. The results of measurements of the stability of the beam position in several user channels are presented. It is shown that further work is needed to determine and eliminate the factors causing beam displacement. The results of measurements performed by different methods of the electron-beam dimensions in the accumulator are presented.

Theory of acoustooptical filtration of light beams in the inhomogeneous acoustic field

The theory of acoustooptical (AO) interaction between light beams in the longitudinally inhomogeneous acoustic field is constructed with allowance for conditions typical of AO filtration. In the case of smooth acoustic inhomogeneities, analytical expressions for the spatially spectral characteristic relating the spatial spectra of incident and diffracted light beams are derived. The situation where a Gaussian light beam undergoes filtration in the acoustic field excited by a rectangular transducer is discussed in detail. The narrowband quasi-collinear AO filter based on a paratellurite crystal is simulated. It is demonstrated that the maximum diffraction efficiency and transmission-function shape distortion (with respect to the plane-wave model) of the given device depend to the greatest extent on the misalignment between the directions of the group velocities of interacting light beams.

High-efficiency multibeam acousto-optic diffraction of pulsed light with nonequidistant beams

Acousto-optic diffraction of pulsed laser radiation on a multifrequency acoustic wave has been studied. It is established that the high efficiency of diffraction (i.e., the formation of a multibeam optical field with low losses) can be also achieved for a nonequidistant set of frequencies and, hence, nonuniform distribution of beams in the angular space. Results of experimental verification of the proposed approach are presented.     

Processing of amplitude spectra in measurements with ionizing radiation by low energy resolution detectors

A method using intermediate processing of amplitude (energy) spectra is described. The method is an alternative to the known differential discrimination method, which is widely applied in measurements of EXAFS spectra and in Mössbauer and diffraction measurements. The method is efficient in cases in which the radiation spectrum contains lines poorly resolved in the used detector. For example, if weak fluorescence of a low-concentration impurity is detected in a sample against the background of intense fluorescence of the matrix, the described method allows one to noticeably improve the quality of the obtained information.
