A Meshless Method of Solving Three-Dimensional Nonstationary Heat Conduction Problems in Anisotropic Materials

The authors describe a meshless method for solving three-dimensional nonstationary heat conduction problems in anisotropic materials. A combination of dual reciprocity method using anisotropic radial basis function and method of fundamental solutions is used to solve the boundary-value problem. The method of fundamental solutions is used to obtain the homogenous part of the solution; the dual reciprocity method with the use of anisotropic radial basis functions allows obtaining a partial solution. The article shows the results of numerical solutions of two benchmark problems obtained by the developed numerical method; average relative, average absolute, and maximum errors are calculated.

     

Atomic constants of autoionization states of ions with Z = 6, 8, 10–42 in the Be isoelectronic sequence

Calculations of the wavelengths and transition probabilities of the radiative transitions 1s²2s²-1s2s²2p, 1s²2s2p-1s2s2p², 1s²2p²-1s2p³ and of the autoionization rates of the states 1s2s²2p, 1s2s2p², 1s2p³ for Be-like multicharged ions with Z = 6, 8, 10–42 have been made. Perturbation theory with inclusion of configuration mixing was used. Relativistic effects were considered in the limits of the Breit operator. The calculations were made in the intermediate coupling scheme.     

Direct conversion of β-decay energy into electrical energy

A comparison of the efficiencies of the power supplies produced based on the β-radiation sources has been carried out. The factors decreasing the efficiency of the device have been revealed. The results of the experimental studies and calculations of the efficiency of the direct energy conversion of Ni-63 β-radiation into electrical energy using silicon p–i–n diodes are presented. An expression for the open-circuit voltage of the convertor taking into account the distribution of high-energy electrons in the space charge region (SCR) of the p–i–n diode has been obtained. The ways of optimizing the convertor’s parameters due to improvements in the diode production technology and optimization of the thicknesses of the active emitter layer and i-region of the semiconductor convertor have been indicated.     

Diagnostic significance of electrocortical responses to rhythmic and solitary photic stimuli in patients with hepato-portal encephalopathy]

In order to clarify some diagnostical criteria of latent hepato-portal encephalopathy in 57 patients with intrahepatic forms of portal hypertension the authors studied the character of driving response in photorhythmical stimulation. In 9 patients the development of evoked potentials depending upon the significance of the stimula was studied as well. The studies confirmed the prognostical significance of a slowing down the mean frequency of rhythms in the EEG in relation to the development of acute encephalopathy and a certain tendency to the shift in the spectrum of driving responses to low frequency and a worsening of driving responses in slowing down the medium rhythm frequency of EEG. In patients with changed resting activity in the Background EEG there was a drop in the amplitude of late components of evoked potentials.
