A mass balance model of trophic interactions among ten key functional producer and consumer groups in Lake Volta was constructed using the Ecopath model to study the energy flows and species interactions in the lake. The present study was based on secondary and primary data on fish catch, diet composition, phytoplankton and zooplankton biomasses, collected in 2015 and 2016. Additional information on growth parameters of major species required for balancing the Ecopath model was obtained from sampling and FishBase. The functional groups were detritus, phytoplankton, zooplankton, benthos, prey fish, Tilapia, Bagrus, Chrysichthys, Alestes and Synodontis species. Four trophic levels were identified in the Lake Volta ecosystem, with the energy flow occurring mainly within the first three trophic levels. The calculated ecotrophic efficiency value of the primary producers (phytoplankton: 0.17; detritus: 0.22) indicated they were least exploited, compared to the secondary producers, zooplankton (0.80) and benthos (0.50). All secondary consumers had ecotrophic efficiency values higher than the primary producers, indicating they are exploited in the ecosystem. The main energy flows in the lake were from phytoplankton and detritus at trophic level I, and Bagrus species, the top predator, at a level of 3.30. The network analysis, illustrating a connectance index of 0.43 and an omnivory index of 0.06, in the lake system indicated the ecosystem is unstable, somewhat immature and still in a developing stage.  相似文献

The graphene oxide (GO) was prepared by sonication‐induced exfoliation from graphite oxide, which was produced by oxidation from graphite flakes with a modified Hummer's method. The GO was then treated by hydrazine to obtain reduced graphene oxide (rGO). On the basis of the characterization results, the GO was successfully reduced to rGO. Acrylonitrile–butadiene rubber (NBR)–GO and NBR–rGO composites were prepared via a solution‐mixing method, and their various physical properties were investigated. The NBR–rGO nanocomposite demonstrated a higher curing efficiency and a change in torque compared to the gum and NBR–GO compounds. This agreed well with the crosslinking density measured by swelling. The results manifested in the high hardness (Shore A) and high tensile modulus of the NBR–rGO compounds. For instance, the tensile modulus at a 0.1‐phr rGO loading greatly increased above 83, 114, and 116% at strain levels of 50, 100, and 200%, respectively, compared to the 0.1‐phr GO loaded sample. The observed enhancement was highly attributed to a homogeneous dispersion of rGO within the NBR matrix; this was confirmed by scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy analysis. However, in view of the high ultimate tensile strength, the NBR–GO compounds exhibited an advantage; this was presumably due to strong hydrogen bonding or polar–polar interactions between the NBR and GO sheets. This interfacial interaction between GO and NBR was supported by the marginal increase in the glass‐transition temperatures of the NBR compounds containing fillers. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Resting frontal electroencephalographic (EEG) asymmetry has been hypothesized as a marker of risk for major depressive disorder (MDD), but the extant literature is based predominately on female samples. Resting frontal asymmetry was assessed on 4 occasions within a 2-week period in 306 individuals aged 18–34 (31% male) with (n = 143) and without (n = 163) lifetime MDD as defined by the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 4th edition (American Psychiatric Association, 1994). Lifetime MDD was linked to relatively less left frontal activity for both sexes using a current source density (CSD) reference, findings that were not accounted for solely by current MDD status or current depression severity, suggesting that CSD-referenced EEG asymmetry is a possible endophenotype for depression. In contrast, results for average and linked mastoid references were less consistent but demonstrated a link between less left frontal activity and current depression severity in women. Nano-structured oxide dispersion strengthened (ODS) steels produced from a 410L stainless steel powder prepared by water-atomization was studied. The influences of Ti content and milling time on the microstructure and the mechanical properties were analysed. It was found that the ODS steels made from the Si bearing 410L powder contained Y–Ti–O, Y–Ti–Si–O, Y–Si–O, and TiO2 oxides. Most nanoparticles produced after 80 h of milling were aggregated nanoparticles; however, after 160 h of milling, most aggregated nanoparticles dissociated into smaller individual nanoparticles. Perfect mixing of Y and Ti was not achieved even after the longer milling time of 160 h; instead, the longer hours of milling rather resulted in Si incorporation into the Y–Ti–O rich nanoparticles and a change in the matrix morphology from an equiaxed microstructure to a tempered martensite-like microstructure. The overall micro-hardness of the ODS steel increased with the increase of milling time. After 80 and 160 h, the microhardnesses were over 400 HV, which primarily resulted from the finer dispersed nanoparticles and in part to the formation of martensitic phases. Tensile strength of the 410L ODS steels was comparable with that of ODS steel produced from gas-atomized powder.  相似文献

Amphiphilic starch at different degree of substitution (DS) was prepared by phosphorylation and octenylsuccinylation of acid-thinned starch with sodium tripolyphosphate and 2-octenylsuccinic anhydride, respectively for improving the adhesion of starch to polyester fibers. Various assessment of starch such as 1H NMR and FTIR analysis, apparent viscosity, starch clarity, adhesion to polyester fiber, desizing efficiency and biodegradability were conducted. The 1H NMR and FTIR spectroscopy revealed that octenylsuccinate and phosphate substituents have been attached to the molecular chain of starch. Also, the apparent viscosity, paste clarity, desizing efficiency and biodegradability of the amphiphilic starch increased as the DS of phosphate increased. It was observed that the amphiphilic starch was an effective method for stronger adhesion unto polyester fibers but reduced at the highest DS of phosphate due to excessive hydrophilicity. As compared to acid-thinned starch, the stronger adhesion of the amphiphilic starch was attributed to the steric hindrance caused by the two substituents on starch and the good dispersibility impacted by the phosphate substituents on starch. Conclusively, the strongest adhesion on polyester fibers, good paste clarity, good desizing efficiency and enhanced biodegradability of starch were attained at phosphate and octenylsuccinate DS ratio of 0.031/0.014.  相似文献

This paper reports the first stage of work being undertaken to understand the factors that have impacted on the current state of food safety in the UK food manufacturing sector. The paper first explores developments in international food safety regulation in general and in particular, the UK. Using a survey and case study methodology, the paper examines the response of food manufacturing enterprises to food safety regulation, and uses statistical techniques to investigate the effects of enterprise size on the drivers for, benefits of, and challenges to compliance. Further, the factors that influence the successful implementation of an integrated food safety management system are also examined. The results show a great deal of both statutory and private regulation that has incentivised enterprises. In response, enterprises have implemented integrated food safety management systems to proactively deal with the risks associated with food safety, however, enterprises claim that statutory regulations are biased towards consumers, without adequate impact assessments on all stakeholders within the chain, and hence causing industry to incur significant costs that could otherwise be avoided. Even though compliance with food safety regulation is burdensome, the cost of non-compliance will also be significant to enterprises. The findings also show that there is no significant effect of size of enterprise on the drivers, benefits and challenges to compliance with food safety regulation.  相似文献

The lifespan and the performance of flexible electronic devices and components are affected by the large accumulation of heat, and this problem must be addressed by thermally conductive polymer composite films. Therefore, the need for the development of high thermal conductivity nanocomposites has a strong role in various applications. In this article, the effect of different particle reinforcements such as single and hybrid form, coated and uncoated particles, and chemically treated particles on the thermal conductivity of various polymers are reviewed and the mechanism behind the improvement of the required properties are discussed. Furthermore, the role of manufacturing processes such as injection molding, compression molding, and 3D printing techniques in the production of high thermal conductivity polymer composites is detailed. Finally, the potential for future research is discussed, which can help researchers to work on the thermal properties enhancement for polymeric materials.  相似文献

We report the case of a 33-year-old man with a severe Crohn's disease since the age of sixteen. He presented with acne and palmoplantar pustulosis associated with a right knee synovitis. Investigations revealed a major axial bone condensation. The association synovitis-acne-pustulosis-hyperostosis-osteitis leaded to the diagnosis of SAPHO syndrome associated with Crohn's disease.  相似文献

Experiments involving both viscous mixing and flow visualization in complex geometries simulating thin film commercial reactors were performed. Highly complex recirculation flows of elastic polymers were reproduced and studied on a TV screen by injecting small volumes of dye (representing process catalyst) into polyvinyl acetate melt, on a blade simulator developed by us recently. High resolution motion pictures taken at 30 frames per second demonstrate that secondary flows, as predicted by Strauss' equations, fail to correct the tendency of the fluid-fluid interface to remain parallel to the velocity streamlines. This problem is further aggravated by the presence of stagnant zones at the center of the vortices. This situation often led to reaction excursions in poorly mixed regions. Specially designed notches were developed to enhance the mixing process, and these increased the interfacial area for mass transfer several fold and also reduced viscous heat dissipation at the gap between the stationary blade and the moving plate. Commercial scale tests with the new blade design corroborate the laboratory findings.

A simplified apparatus has been developed to simulate the secondary flow behavior that occurs in thin film commercial reactors. The extension of Strauss' mathematical model to the case of viscoelastic fluid enabled reactor performance improvement through high speed cinematographic studies using the simulator. The rate of recirculation in the secondary flow was shown to be proportional to the speed of the impeller; however, the center of the secondary flows was noted to be a zone of poor mixing. This was corrected through a special impeller design that destroys stagnation zones in the reactor.  相似文献
