Adsorption has been used to study the removal of atenolol, caffeine, diclofenac and isoproturon, pharmaceutical compounds as emerging contaminants and an endocrine disruptor from ultrapure water and a municipal wastewater treatment plant effluent with three carbonaceous materials: activated carbon, multiwalled carbon nanotubes and carbon nanofibers. The adsorption capacities were studied in the temperature range of 25-65°C and pH range from 3 to 9. Several model isotherms were used to model the adsorption equilibrium data. In 1976, the discovery of the Love Canal Superfund Site in New York thrust environmental cleanups into the forefront of the national conscience and essentially launched the remediation industry. Since then, vast efforts have been devoted to improving site remediation. Despite the attention given to key subject areas, such as site characterization, risk assessment, and remediation technologies, relatively little attention has been given to the objectives set forth for conducting cleanups, and they have generally not been rigorously evaluated in the literature. The velvet swimming crab Necora puber is a common species along the European Atlantic coasts. Due to its increasing commercial importance, many studies have been
carried out to characterize its growth and reproduction, but no genetic assessment has ever been attempted at the population
level. Here, we describe the genetic diversity and population structure of N. puber in northwestern Spain (Galicia), including additional samples from France, Portugal, and southern Spain. To do so, we analysed
two mitochondrial fragments of the COI and 16S genes in 217 individuals collected from ten localities. Our results unveil
low-genetic diversity and weak population structure along the studied range. A range expansion after the last glacial maximum,
followed by ongoing gene flow, seems to be the most likely explanation for the observed genetic pattern. 相似文献

What consequences does ‘everyday violence’ have on the abilities of survivors to protect themselves from further risks? This paper seeks to establish the linkages between violence and people's resilience capacities to survive and adapt to environmental changes, particularly those living in fragile economic and political contexts such as Chad. It investigates not only how the adverse consequences of violence against women and girls affect the health status and livelihoods of survivors, but also their capacities, and those of their household and community members, to further protect themselves from other risks. Empirical evidence collected in Chad as part of the BRACED (Building Resilience and Adaptation to Climate Extremes and Disasters) programme shows that ‘everyday violence’ undermines resilience‐building at the individual, household, and community level. These results have serious implications for development programmes and the role they need to play to better promote both gender equality and resilience to shocks and stresses. 相似文献

Preliminary studies show that the wastewater from textile industries contains grease, wax, surfactant, and dyes.
