The biocompatibility of titania/hydroxyapatite (TiO2HA) composite coatings, at different ratio obtained by sol–gel process, was investigated studying the behavior of primary cultures of rat osteoblastic cells, isolated by femoral trabecular bone tissue. Moreover, the results have been compared with the response of human osteoblast-like MG63 cell line. Cytotoxicity of coatings was assessed by lactate dehydrogenase activity (LDH). The cellular behavior was analyzed by the cell proliferation (MTT test), cell morphology (SEM) and the biochemical markers evaluation of osteoblastic phenotype, such as alkaline phosphatase activity (ALP) and osteocalcin production. The results showed that TiO2/HA coatings have no toxic effects and seemed to be a good support for cell adhesion and proliferation. Moreover, these materials allowed the differentiation of osteoblasts, stimulating the expression of alkaline phosphatase activity. The responses of the primary rat osteoblasts and human osteoblast-like MG63 cell line grown onto these coatings were similar in terms of proliferation and ALP activity. Differences were found considering the osteocalcin production. The results show that these coatings, thanks to their chemical composition and the deposition technique, are very promising for the potential orthopedic and dental applications.  相似文献

Time-resolved reflectance spectroscopy can be used to assess nondestructively the bulk (rather than the superficial) optical properties of highly diffusive media. A fully automated system for time-resolved reflectance spectroscopy was used to evaluate the absorption and the transport scattering spectra of fruits in the red and the near-infrared regions. In particular, data were collected in the range 650-1000 nm from three varieties of apples and from peaches, kiwifruits, and tomatoes. The absorption spectra were usually dominated by the water peak near 970 nm, whereas chlorophyll was detected at 675 nm. For all species the scattering decreased progressively with increasing wavelength. A best fit to water and chlorophyll absorption line shapes and to Mie theory permitted the estimation of water and chlorophyll content and the average size of scattering centers in the bulk of intact fruits.  相似文献

A portable system based on fluorescence lifetime imaging has been developed and tested for the detection of skin tumors in humans. The Heme precursor δ-aminolevulinic acid, which promotes the preferential accumulation of the endogenous Protoporphyrin IX (PpIX) in proliferative tissues, is used as an exogenous marker to target the tumor, δ-aminolevulinic acid is topically administered to the patient 1 h before the measurement. Then, using a gated intensified camera, two or more images of the sample are acquired after different delays with respect to the excitation pulses. The images are processed in real time in order to calculate the spatial map of the fluorescence decay time of the sample. The localization of the tumor is based on the longer decay time detected in neoplastic tissues as a result of the stronger emission of PpIX, which has a long decay time, and the reduction in the short living natural tissue fluorescence  相似文献

Ionic substitution is a powerful tool to improve the biological performance of calcium phosphate based materials. In this work, we investigated the response of primary cultures of rat osteoblasts derived from osteopenic (O-OB) bone to strontium substituted hydroxyapatite (SrHA), and to hydroxyapatite (HA) as reference material, compared to normal (N-OB) bone cells. Strontium (Sr) and calcium (Ca) cumulative releases in physiological solution are in agreement with the greater solubility of SrHA than HA, whereas the differences between the two materials are levelled off in DMEM, which significantly reduced ion release. O-OB cells grown on SrHA exhibited higher proliferation and increased values of the differentiation parameters. In particular, Sr substitution increased the levels of proliferation, alkaline phosphatase, and collagen type I, and down-regulated the production of interleukin-6 of O-OB cells, demonstrating a promising future of SrHA in the treatment of bone lesions and defects in the presence of osteoporotic bone.  相似文献

The charge injection barriers in organic field-effect transistors (OFETs) seem to be far less critical as compared to organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). Counter intuitively, we show that the origin is image-force lowering of the barrier due to the gate bias at the source contact, although the corresponding gate field is perpendicular to the channel current. In coplanar OFETs, injection barriers up to 1 eV can be surmounted by increasing the gate bias, enabling extraction of bulk transport parameters in this regime. For staggered transistors, however, the injection is gate-assisted only until the gate bias is screened by the accumulation channel opposite to the source contact. The gate-assisted injection is supported by two-dimensional numerical charge transport simulations that reproduce the gate-bias dependence of the contact resistance and the typical S-shaped output curves as observed for OFETs with high injection barriers.  相似文献

The seamless integration of electronics with biology requires new bio-inspired approaches that, analogously to nature, rely on the presence of electrolytes for signal multiplexing. On the contrary, conventional multiplexing schemes mostly rely on electronic carriers and require peripheral circuitry for their implementation, which imposes severe limitations toward their adoption in bio-applications. Here, a bio-inspired iontronic multiplexer based on spatiotemporal dynamics of organic electrochemical transistors (OECTs), with an electrolyte as the shared medium of communication, is shown. The iontronic system discriminates locally random-access events with no need of peripheral circuitry or address assignment, thus deceasing significantly the integration complexity. The form factors of OECTs that allow for intimate biointerfacing as well as the electrochemical nature of the communication medium, open new avenues for unconventional multiplexing in the emerging fields of bioelectronics, wearables, and neuromorphic computing or sensing.  相似文献

We developed a compact dual-wavelength multichannel tissue oximeter based on the time-correlated single-photon counting (TCSPC) technique. The light sources are two pulsed diode lasers (output wavelengths of 672 and 818 nm, an average power of 1 mW, a pulse duration of 100 ps, and a pulse-repetition rate as high as 80 MHz). The time-resolved reflectance photons are detected by a multianode photomultiplier, and the output signals are redirected by a router to different memory blocks of the TCSPC personal computer board. The system's accuracy in determining the absorption microa and the reduced-scattering micros' coefficients and in reconstructing absorber concentrations in diffusive media was tested on phantoms. Preliminary in vivo tissue-oxygenation measurements were performed on healthy volunteers under different physiological conditions with a minimum acquisition time of 100 ms and an injected power of less than 100 microW.  相似文献

The overall image quality and diagnostic potential of time-resolved transmittance imaging depend on sensitivity to optical contrast, capacity to discriminate scattering from absorption contributions, and spatial resolution. We have investigated experimentally the effects of the optical properties of the background medium on the overall image quality of optical imaging based on fitting the experimental data to the solution of the diffusion equation and on time gating. Images were acquired from phantoms with different background optical properties, while the optical contrast between inhomogeneities and background is kept constant. Data were collected every 0.2 cm over a 6 cm x 6 cm area from realistic tissue phantoms containing cylindrical inhomogeneities (1 cm high and 1 cm in diameter) embedded in a 5-cm-thick turbid slab. The optical coefficients of the background were varied in the ranges of 5-15 cm(-1) for transport scattering and 0.02-0.08 cm(-1) for absorption. The optical contrast for the inclusions was kept at values of -50% and +50% for the scattering and -75% and +300% for the absorption. The results show that both high scattering and high absorption are beneficial.  相似文献
