Production technology for low-carbon,low-sulfur boron steel

A technology for slag formation in the ladle–furnace unit is considered; the slag is based on the CaO–SiO₂–MgO–Al₂O₃–B₂O₃ system. This technology permits both microalloying of the steel with boron (reduced from the oxide phase) and desulfurization of the steel. The resulting boron content in the steel is 0.001–0.008%; the sulfur content in low-alloy steel and pipe steel is low (0.004–0.010%); and the consumption of manganese ferroalloys is reduced to 0.5 kg/t for 08кп steel and 1.4 kg/t for 09Г2C steel. In addition, the proposed technology increases the strength of the rolled steel, without loss in its plasticity; and reduces the environmental impact thanks to the replacement of fluorspar by colemanite.     

Improving the production of low-carbon ferrochrome

The smelting of low-carbon ferrochrome by melt mixing is reviewed, with particular attention to developments at OAO Serovskii Zavod Ferrosplavov. Practical experience with the two-stage production of low-carbon ferrochrome by melt mixing from slags of variable basicity is described. A strategy for improving this technology is proposed.     

Phase equilibrium in binary mixtures formed by benzene,perfluorobenzene, and dimethyl sulfoxide

The liquid-vapor phase equilibria in the benzene-perfluorobenzene, benzene-dimethyl sulfoxide, and perfluorobenzene-dimethyl sulfoxide binary systems at atmospheric pressure and the liquid-solid phase equilibrium in the benzene-perfluorobenzene binary system were studied. The liquid-vapor activity coefficients in binary systems were calculated by the Wilson equation. The liquid-solid equilibrium was described by second and third-degree polynomials.     

High-power 0.82 mu m superluminescent diodes with extremely low Fabry-Perot modulation depth

Superluminescent AlGaAs-GaAs diodes with 15 mW output power and 1% Fabry-Perot modulation depth and modules with 3 mW polarisation maintaining fibre output have been developed. At output powers of more than 8 mW the effect of saturation on power fluctuations was observed.<>     

Undriven working stands for continuous two-strand rolling

Economic growth under market conditions requires the development of new energy-efficient processes and equipment for making rolled products, a reduction in the costs of building new mills and rebuilding existing mills, and an improvement in the flexibility afforded by these facilities. New and rebuilt rolling mills should allow the production of the widest possible range of products in terms of size and grade of steel.     

Production of a fluidized bed moving along an inclined gas-distributing grid
