Levels of total metals (Pb, Cu, Zn, Cr, Ni) from samples in Buffalo, NY, were generally higher in combined sewage than sanitary flow. Sewer separation should therefore be considered carefully when choosing combined sewer overflow (CSO) abatement options. The first flush phenomenon was typically observed for sampled CSO events and first flush control may be effective in reducing receiving water impacts. Event mean concentration is often used for runoff quality evaluation, without consideration of concentration variability. The Weibull and lognormal distributions best fit the event mean concentration data and could be used to assess contaminant loading variability. 相似文献

The paper presents several sorting methods of γ-ray events which were implemented in the data acquisition, processing and visualization system, developed at the Institute of Physics of the Slovak Academy of Sciences. The sorting methods using various shapes of gates (conditions) are presented, including rectangular windows, polygons, gates defined by arithmetic functions, spherical, ellipsoidal and composed gates. Pollutants accumulated on road pavement during dry periods are washed off the surface with runoff water during rainfall events, presenting a potentially hazardous non-point source of pollution. Estimation of pollutant loads in these runoff waters is required for developing mitigation and management strategies, yet the numerous factors involved and their complex interconnected influences make straightforward assessment impossible. Data-driven models (DDMs) have lately been used in water and environmental research and have shown very good prediction ability. The proposed methodology of a coupled MT-GA (model tree-genetic algorithm) model provides an effective, accurate and easily calibrated predictive model for EMC (event mean concentration) of highway runoff pollutants. The models were trained and verified using a comprehensive data set of runoff events monitored in various highways in California, USA. EMCs of Cr, Pb, Zn, TOC and TSS were modeled, using different combinations of explanatory variables. The models' prediction ability in terms of correlation between predicted and actual values of both training and verification data was mostly higher than previously reported values. Several methods to extract an asymmetry parameter in an event distribution function are discussed and compared in terms of statistical precision and applicability. These methods are: simple counting rate asymmetries, event weighting procedures and the unbinned extended maximum likelihood method. It is known that weighting methods reach the same figure of merit (FOM) as the likelihood method in the limit of vanishing asymmetries. This article presents an improved weighting procedure reaching the FOM of the likelihood method for arbitrary asymmetries. Natural radiation is known to be a source of microelectronics failure. For instance, neutrons, protons, heavy ions, and alpha particles have all been implicated in the occurrence of soft errors in memory devices. To predict the reliability of electronics devices we developed a tool called MC-ORACLE. This Monte Carlo application is based on the common empirical soft error criterion for a critical charge deposited in a parallelepiped sensitive volume.
