Three-dimensional MHD high-resolution computations with CWENO employing adaptive mesh refinement

Until recently, numerical simulations of discontinuities in highly super-Alfvénic plasmas have been severely limited by comparatively crude resolution and accuracy. Significant progress in the numerical simulation of such plasmas was achieved with the recently implemented Central Weighted Essentially Non-Oscillatory (CWENO) scheme. Combining this technique with that of adaptive mesh refinement (AMR), we have developed a third-order numerical scheme, which is able to efficiently capture strong gradients on spatial scales being small compared to the overall scale of the plasma system considered. Here, we first describe important algorithmic aspects of the scheme as well as the physics included in it. Second, we present the results of various performance tests. And, third, we illustrate its application to ‘real world problems’ using the example of the dynamics of a Sedov-type explosion.     

An Experimental Investigation of the Coagulation of Aerosol in a Tube in the Vicinity of Subharmonic Resonance

Nonlinear oscillation of aerosol in the vicinity of a resonance frequency that is twice lower than the first eigenfrequency (subharmonic resonance) is experimentally investigated in tubes with different conditions at the ends. The time dependence of the number density of aerosol droplets is determined, and the effect of the frequency and intensity of oscillation on the process of coagulation of droplets is studied. The nonmonotonic pattern of the dependence of the time of coagulation of aerosol droplets on the frequency of excitation with a minimal value at resonance is found. Ordered space-time structures (alternation of denser and looser regions of aerosol) are revealed in the visible region in the vicinity of the middle of a closed tube.     

Anisotropic mesh adaption by metric‐driven optimization

We describe a Gauss–Seidel algorithm for optimizing a three‐dimensional unstructured grid so as to conform to a given metric. The objective function for the optimization process is based on the maximum value of an elemental residual measuring the distance of any simplex in the grid to the local target metric. We analyse different possible choices for the objective function, and we highlight their relative merits and deficiencies. Alternative strategies for conducting the optimization are compared and contrasted in terms of resulting grid quality and computational costs. Numerical simulations are used for demonstrating the features of the proposed methodology, and for studying some of its characteristics. Copyright © 2004 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

高炉煤气净化系统新技术研究与应用

济钢第二炼铁厂针对原高炉煤气净化系统处理能力不足等问题，研制了新的煤气净化系统。该系统采用单根文氏管、串联花环、丝网脱水器湿法除尘，取代原串联文氏管电除尘净化工艺。应用表明，新系统运行安全，净煤气含尘量小于10^mg／m^3，含水量小于5g／m^3，高炉风温提高90℃。     

Density Measurement of Liquid Ni-Ta Alloys by a Modified Sessile Drop Method

The density of liquid Ni- Ta alloys was measured by using a modified sessile drop method. It is found that the density of the liquid Ni- Ta alloys decreases with the increasing temperature, but increases with the increase of tantalum concentration in the alloys. The molar volume of liquid Ni- Ta binary alloys increases with the increase of temperature ancl tantalum concentration.

Comparison of spatial compositional uniformity and dislocation density for organometallic vapor phase epitaxial Hg1−x CdxTe grown by the direct alloy and interdiffused growth processes

Etch pit density and spatial compositional uniformity data are presented for organometallic vapor phase epitaxial Hg_1−x Cd_x Te grown by the direct alloy and interdiffused growth methods. For alloy growth, composition variation is as low as Δx=0.004 and 0.02 over 2- and 3-in diam areas, respectively; while for growth on CdZnTe substrates, etch pit density values lower than 2×10⁵ cm⁻² have been achieved. For interdiffused growth on CdZnTe, etch pit density values lower than 5×10⁵ cm⁻² have been obtained, while the composition variation is usually Δx≤0.004 and 0.014 over 2- and 3-in diam areas, respectively. Data demonstrate that the choice of particular CdZnTe substrate strongly affects the subsequent etch pit density measured in the layer. Reasonably uniform n-type doping over 3-in diam area using the source triethylgallium is also reported for both growth methods.     

Volumetric properties of mixtures of 1,4-dioxane and water at high pressures

Densities of aqueous of 1,4-dioxane have been measured at temperatures from 298 to 348 K and at pressures up to 40 MPa by a vibrating-tube method. Molar volumes obtained with an estimated uncertainty of ±0.2°,% are correlated with pressure by the Tait equation within the experimental uncertainty. Pressure and composition dependences of the excess molar volume, partial molar volume, and isothermal compressibility are determined and they are compared with those of other aqueous solutions.
