One of the cornerstones of expert performance in complex domains is the ability to perceive problem situations in terms of
their task-relevant semantic properties. One such class of properties consists of phenomena that are defined in terms of patterns
of change over time, i.e., events. A basic pre-requisite for working towards tools to support event recognition is a method for understanding the events that
expert practitioners find meaningful in a given field of practice. In this article we present the modified unit marking procedure
(mUMP), a technique adapted from work on social perception to facilitate identification of the meaningful phenomena which
observers attend to in a dynamic data array. The mUMP and associated data analysis techniques are presented with examples
from a first of a kind study where they were used to elicit and understand the events practitioners found meaningful in a
scenario from an actual complex work domain.

Speculative execution is one of the key issues to boost the performance of future generation microprocessors. In this paper, we introduce a novel approach to evaluate the effects of branch and value prediction, which allow the processor to execute instructions beyond the limits of control and true data dependences. Until now, almost all the estimations of their performance potential under different scenarios have been obtained using trace-driven or execution-driven simulation. Occasionally, some simple deterministic models have been used. We employ an analytical model based on recently introduced Fluid Stochastic Petri Nets (FSPNs) in order to capture the dynamic behavior of an ILP processor with aggressive use of prediction techniques and speculative execution. Here we define the FSPN model, derive the state equations for the underlying stochastic process and present performance evaluation results to illustrate its usage in deriving measures of interest. Our implementation-independent stochastic modeling framework reveals considerable potential for further research in this area using numerical solution of systems of partial differential equations and/or discrete-event simulation of FSPN models. 相似文献

The implementation of the Preconditioned Conjugate Gradient method for the solution of large linear systems arising from the discretization of differential operators, requires the pre-determination of only one iteration parameter. The numerical determination of the optimal value of this constant parameter, involves the spectral bounds of some matrices and can be obtained in O ( N 2 ) sine function evaluations, where 1/ N is the discretization mesh size. It is shown that this parameter can be chosen in a stable manner in O (1) operations per iteration, if it is allowed to vary with the iteration index from information derived from the gradient parameters. 相似文献

This paper presents the results of a Round-Robin Test on methods for determining chloride transport parameters in concrete, carried out by the Technical Committee TC 178-TMC: “Testing and Modelling Chloride Penetration in Concrete” in which 27 different laboratories around the world have participated, using 13 different methods, in triplicate specimens, for 4 different mixes of concrete cast with different binders. Four different groups of methods have been tested: Natural diffusion methods (D), Migration methods (M), Resistivity methods (R) and Colourimetric methods (C). The statistical treatment of the data has been carried out according to the International Standard ISO 5725-2:1994 for the determination of the accuracy (trueness and precision) of measurement methods and results. Part 2: Basic method for the determination of the repeatability and reproducibility of a standard measurement method. In order to make an evaluation of these methods, four indicators have been identified and within each of them, several sub-indicators have been assigned. According to this system of classification, the methods have been classified following each indicator (trueness, precision, relevance and convenience), and also globally, by assigning different factors of importance, F.I., to the different indicators. 相似文献
