Demand for energy efficient buildings has increased drastically in recent years and this trend will continue in the future. Insulating building elements will play a key role in meeting this demand by reducing heat losses through the building fabric. Due to their higher thermal resistance, Vacuum Insulation Panels (VIPs) would be a more energy efficient alternative to conventional building insulation materials. Thus, efforts to develop VIPs with characteristics suitable for applications to new and existing buildings are underway. This paper provides a review of important contemporary developments towards producing VIPs using various materials such as glass fibre, foams, perlite and fibre/powder composites. The limitations of the materials currently used to fabricate VIPs have not been emphasised in detail in previous review papers published. Selection criteria, methods to measure important properties of VIPs and analytical and numerical models presented in the past have been detailed. Limitations of currently employed design tools along with potential future materials such as Nano/microcellular foams and SiOx/SiNx coatings for use in VIPs are also described. 相似文献

This paper presents a comparative study between a model of portable direct hydrogen‐fed proton exchange membrane fuel cell‐ultracapacitor (PEMFC‐UC) power source and experimental results obtained from an actual PEMFC‐UC system in the authors' laboratory. In the proposed system the UC is directly connected to the PEMFC output terminals. The UC is used to supply the power mismatch during the sudden load variations when the load is higher than the PEMFC maximum capacity. The model is then used to estimate the output voltage and study the transient response of the PEMFC‐UC system when subjected to rapid changes in the load. To validate the model, laboratory experiments are carried out using a 100 W commercially available PEMFC and an UC. The model results are verified against the experimental data using three statistical indices to measure the variations, unbiasedness, and accuracy. The indices indicate a maximum difference of 1.06%, which shows a close agreement between the voltage and power responses of the proposed model and the actual PEMFC‐UC system. It is recognized that one infant death in a family indicates an increased risk of death of a subsequent sibling. This study examines which cause of death of a sibling is related to the mortality of the younger sibling and when. Longitudinal vital events data from the maternal and child health and family planning (MCH-FP) project and the comparison areas in Matlab, Bangladesh, were used. Primary causes of 868 neonatal deaths and 624 post-neonatal deaths resulting from 18,865 singleton live births in 1989-92 and those (967 as neonates and 708 as post-neonates) of their immediate elder siblings were categorised into infectious and non-infectious diseases. Multinomial logistic regression was used to estimate the risk of younger siblings dying in each age period from infectious and non-infectious diseases given the age and cause of deaths of older siblings and controlling for other biosocial correlates of infant mortality. A neonatal death of non-infectious causes in a family was twice as likely to be followed by another one occurring at the same age from similar causes compared with a surviving infant followed by a neonatal death from non-infectious causes. The MCH-FP project, though successful in reducing the risk of neonatal and post-neonatal mortality from infectious diseases, did not reduce the risk of dying from non-infectious diseases. 相似文献

An analysis is carried out to determine the combined effect of van der Waals and viscous fluid forces on coagulation of spherical aerosol particles in the free molecular, transition, and continuum regimes. The effect of viscous forces is taken into account by modifying the particle diffusion coefficient. An asymptotic solution is substituted for the classical formulation of viscous forces. This paper presents investigations into the design of a command-shaping technique using multi-objective genetic optimisation process for vibration control of a single-link flexible manipulator. Conventional design of a command shaper requires a priori knowledge of natural frequencies and associated damping ratios of the system, which may not be available for complex flexible systems. Moreover, command shaping in principle causes delay in system's response while it reduces system vibration and in this manner the amount of vibration reduction and the rise time conflict one another. Furthermore, system performance objectives, such as, reduced overshoot, rise time, settling time, and end-point vibration are found in conflict with one another due to the construction and mode of operation of a flexible manipulator. Conventional methods can hardly provide a solution, for a designer-oriented formulation, satisfying several objectives and associated goals as demanded by a practical application due to the competing nature of those objectives. In such cases, multi-objective optimisation can provide a wide range of solutions, which trade-off these conflicting objectives so as to satisfy associated goals. A multi-modal command shaper consists of impulses of different amplitudes at different time locations, which are convolved with one another and then with the desired reference and then used as reference (for closed loop) or applied to system (for open loop) with the view to reduce vibration of the system, mainly at dominant modes. Multi-objective optimisation technique is used to determine a set of solutions for the amplitudes and corresponding time locations of impulses of a multi-modal command shaper. The effectiveness of the proposed technique is assessed both in the time domain and the frequency domain.
