The objective of this part of the paper is to summarize the information concerning the authors' works in the field of simulation of two-phase gas-particle turbulent flows with heat transfer and combustion. A kinetic equation had been derived for the probability density function (PDF) of the particle velocity, temperature, and mass distributions in turbulent flows. This PDF equation is used for the construction of the governing conservation equations of mass, momentum, and heat transfer in the dispersed particle phase. The numerical scheme incorporates two-phase fluid dynamics, convective and radiative heat transfer, and combustion. The proposed models have been applied to the calculation of various particle-laden turbulent flows in jets, combustion and gasification chambers, and furnaces.  相似文献

The purpose of this paper is to present and compare two statistical models for predicting the effect of collisions on particle velocities and stresses in bidisperse turbulent flows. These models start from a kinetic equation for the probability density function (PDF) of the particle velocity distribution in a homogeneous anisotropic turbulent flow. The kinetic equation describes simultaneously particle–turbulence and particle–particle interactions. The paper is focused on deriving the collision terms in the governing equations of the PDF moments. One of the collision models is based on a Grad-like expansion for the PDF of the velocity distributions of two particles. The other model stems from a Grad-like expansion for the joint fluid–particle PDF. The validity of these models is explored by comparing with Lagrangian simulations of particle tracking in uniformly sheared and isotropic turbulent flows generated by LES. Notwithstanding the fact that the fluid turbulence may be isotropic, the particle velocity fluctuations are anisotropic due to the impact of gravitational settling. Comparisons of the model predictions and the numerical simulations show encouraging agreement.  相似文献

The purpose of this paper is twofold: (i) to present statistical models that describe particle–turbulence interactions as well as particle–particle collisions and (ii) to gain a better understanding of the effect of inter-particle collisions on transport, deposition, and preferential concentration of heavy particles in turbulent channel flows. The models presented are based on a kinetic equation for the probability density function of the particle velocity distribution in anisotropic turbulent flow. The model predictions compare reasonable well with numerical simulations and properly reproduce the crucial trends of computations.  相似文献

Deposition of inertial solid particles transported by turbulent flows is modelled in a framework of a statistical approach based on the particle velocity Probability Density Function (PDF). The particle-turbulence interaction term is closed in the kinetic equation by a model widely inspired from the famous BGK model of the kinetic theory of rarefied gases. A Gauss-Hermite Lattice Boltzmann model is used to solve the closed kinetic equation involving the turbulence effect. The Lattice Boltzmann model is used for the case of the deposition of inertial particles transported by a homogeneous isotropic turbulent flows. Even if the carrier phase is homogeneous and isotropic, the presence of the wall coupled with particle-turbulence interactions leads to inhomogeneous particle distribution and non-equilibrium particle fluctuating motion. Despite these complexities the predictions of the Lattice Boltzmann model are in very good accordance with random-walk simulations. More specifically the mean particle velocity, the r.m.s. particle velocity and the deposition rate are all well predicted by the proposed Lattice Boltzmann model.  相似文献

This paper describes methods and approaches that have been used to simulate and model the transport, mixing and agglomeration of small particles in a flowing turbulent gas. The transported particles because of their inertia are assumed not to follow the motion of the large scales of the turbulence and or the motion of the small dissipating scales of the turbulence. We show how both these behaviours can be represented by a PDF approach analogous to that used in classical kinetic theory. For large scale dispersion the focus is on transport in simple generic flows like statistically stationary homogeneous and isotropic turbulence and simple shear flows. Special consideration is given to the transport and deposition of particles in turbulent boundary layers. For small scale transport the focus is on how the small scales of turbulence together with the particle inertial response enhance collision processes like particle agglomeration. In this case the importance of segregation and the formation of caustics, singularities and random uncorrelated motion is highlighted and discussed.  相似文献

The analysis of turbulent two-phase flows requires closure models in order to perform reliable computational multiphase fluid dynamics (CMFD) analyses. A spectral turbulence cascade-transport model, which tracks the evolution of the turbulent kinetic energy from large to small liquid eddies, has been developed for the analysis of the homogeneous decay of isotropic single and bubbly two-phase turbulence. This model has been validated for the decay of homogeneous, isotropic single and two-phase bubbly flow turbulence for data having a 5 mm mean bubble diameter. The Reynolds number of the data based on bubble diameter and relative velocity is approximately 1400.  相似文献

An approximate equation governing the turbulent fluid velocity encountered along discrete particle path is used to derive the fluid/particle turbulent moments required for dispersed two-phase flows modelling. Then, closure model predictions are compared with results obtained from large-eddy simulation of particle fluctuating motion in forced isotropic fluid turbulence.  相似文献

A particle nonlinear two-scale turbulence model is proposed for simulating the anisotropic turbulent two-phase flow. The particle kinetic energy equation for two-scale fluctuation, particle energy transfer rate equation for large-scale fluctuation, and particle turbulent kinetic energy dissipation rate equation for small-scale fluctuation are derived and closed. This model is used to simulate gas–particle flows in a sudden-expansion chamber. The simulation is compared with the experiment and with those obtained by using another two kinds of tow-phase turbulence model, such as the single-scale two-phase turbulence model and the particle two-scale second-order moment (USM) two-phase turbulence model. It is shown that the present model gives simulation in much better agreement with the experiment than the single-scale two-phase turbulence model does and is almost as good as the particle two-scale USM turbulence model. The aim of the present paper is to introduce and to discuss inconsistency errors that may arise when Eulerian and Lagrangian models are coupled for the simulations of turbulent poly-dispersed two-phase flows. In these hybrid models, two turbulence models are implicitly used at the same time and it is important to check that they are consistent, in spite of their apparent different formulations. This issue is best revealed in the case of very small particles, or tracer-limit particles, where it is assessed that coupling inconsistent turbulence models (Eulerian and Lagrangian) can result in non-physical results, notably for second-order fluid velocity moments. Computations for fluid particles in a turbulent channel flow using several coupling strategies are presented to illustrate this question.  相似文献

The basic equations of turbulent gas-solid flows are derived by using the pseudo-fluid model of particle phase with a refined two-phase turbulence model. These equations are then applied to swirling gas-particle flows for analyzing the collection efficiency in cyclone separators.  相似文献

The two-fluid model is widely adopted in simulations of dense gas-particle flows in engineering facili- ties. Present two-phase turbulence models for two-fluid modeling are isotropic. However, turbulence in actual gas-particle flows is not isotropic. Moreover, in these models the two-phase velocity correlation is closed using dimensional analysis, leading to discrepancies between the numerical results, theoretical analysis and experiments. To rectify this problem, some two-phase turbulence models were proposed by the authors and are applied to simulate dense gas-particle flows in downers, risers, and horizontal channels; Experimental results validate the simulation results. Among these models the USM-O and the two-scale USM models are shown to give a better account of both anisotropic particle turbulence and particle-particle collision using the transport equation model for the two-phase velocity correlation.  相似文献

Prediction of the particle-laden jet with a two-equation turbulence model   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
A two-equation turbulence model for two-phase flows has recently been proposed by Elghobashi & Abou-Arab (1983). They derived the exact equations of the kinetic energy of turbulence and the rate of dissipation of that energy, and modeled the turbulent correlations, resulting from time-averaging, up to third order. In order to validate the proposed model, a turbulent axisymmetric gaseous jet laden with spherical uniform-size solid particles is studied here. The predictions of the mean flow properties of the two-phases and the turbulence kinetic energy and shear stress of the carrier phase show good agreement with the experimental data.  相似文献

Particle fluctuation and gas turbulence in dense gas-particle flows are less studied due to complexity of the phenomena. In the present study, simulations of gas turbulent flows passing over a single particle are carried out first by using RANS modeling with a Reynolds stress equation turbulence model and sufficiently fine grids, and then by using LES. The turbulence enhancement by the particle wake effect is studied under various particle sizes and relative gas velocities, and the turbulence enhancement is found proportional to the particle diameter and the square of velocity. Based on the above results, a turbulence enhancement model for the particle-wake effect is proposed and is incorporated as a sub-model into a comprehensive two-phase flow model, which is then used to simulate dilute gas-particle flows in a horizontal channel. The simulation results show that the predicted gas turbulence by using the present model accounting for the particle wake effect is obviously in better agreement with the experimental results than the prediction given by the model not accounting for the wake effect. Finally, the proposed model is incorporated into another two-phase flow model to simulate dense gasparticle flows in a downer. The results show that the particle wake effect not only enhances the gas turbulence, but also amplifies the particle fluctuation.  相似文献

The micro-and macro-time scales in two-phaseturbulent channel flows are investigated using the direct numerical simulation and the Lagrangian particle trajectorymethods for the fluid-and the particle-phases,respectively.Lagrangian and Eulerian time scales of both phases are calculated using velocity correlation functions.Due to flowanisotropy,micro-time scales are not the same with the theoretical estimations in large Reynolds number(isotropic) turbulence.Lagrangian macro-time scales of particle-phaseand of fluid-phase seen by particles are both dependent onparticle Stokes number. The fluid-phase Lagrangian integral time scales increase with distance from the wall, longerthan those time scales seen by particles. The Eulerian integral macro-time scales increase in near-wall regions but decrease in out-layer regions. The moving Eulerian time scalesare also investigated and compared with Lagrangian integraltime scales, and in good agreement with previous measurements and numerical predictions. For the fluid particles themicro Eulerian time scales are longer than the Lagrangianones in the near wall regions, while away from the walls themicro Lagrangian time scales are longer. The Lagrangianintegral time scales are longer than the Eulerian ones.Theresults are useful for further understanding two-phase flowphysics and especially for constructing accurate predictionmodels of inertial particle dispersion.  相似文献

This paper presents a numerical method for simulating turbulent flows via coupling the Boltzmann BGK equation with Spalart–Allmaras one equation turbulence model. Both the Boltzmann BGK equation and the turbulence model equation are carried out using the finite volume method on unstructured meshes, which is different from previous works on structured grid. The application of the gas‐kinetic scheme is extended to the simulation of turbulent flows with arbitrary geometries. The adaptive mesh refinement technique is also adopted to reduce the computational cost and improve the efficiency of meshes. To organize the unstructured mesh data structure efficiently, a non‐manifold hybrid mesh data structure is extended for polygonal cells. Numerical experiments are performed on incompressible flow over a smooth flat plate and compressible turbulent flows around a NACA 0012 airfoil using unstructured hybrid meshes. These numerical results are found to be in good agreement with experimental data and/or other numerical solutions, demonstrating the applicability of the proposed method to simulate both subsonic and transonic turbulent flows. Dilute, dispersed two-phase flows arise in many contexts ranging from solid particles or droplets in gas flows to bubbles in liquids. Many of the flows of interest are turbulent, which presents a complex problem to analyze or to determine the dominant physical processes contributing to the observed phenomena. Advances in experimental techniques have made it possible to measure directly turbulent and particle velocity fluctuations in dilute systems. This has provided a counterpart to advances in computational and analytical models and a basis on which to test these models. Three specific areas are considered: the fluctuating forces on an individual particle in an unsteady flow, the response of a solid particle to a turbulent air flow, and the corresponding response of a small bubble in turbulent liquid flows. Results from direct numerical simulations are presented for each of these, including the nonuniform distribution of particles generated by local instantaneous features of the flow. The issue of turbulence modulation at low to moderate void fractions is discussed.  相似文献

A statistical model for describing the motion and collisions of a bidisperse mixture of particles in anisotropic turbulent flows is presented. The model is based on a kinetic equation for the particle velocity probability density function (PDF). The results are compared with the data of a direct numerical simulation of the sedimentation of a bidisperse mixture of particles under the action of the gravity force.  相似文献

Modelling of particle-wall collisions in confined gas-particle flows   总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5
This paper demonstrates that numerical simulations of confined particulate two-phase flows require a detailed modelling of particle—wall collisions which includes the wall surface structure and the particle shape. These effects are taken into account by “irregular bouncing” models which are based on the statistical treatment of the collision process. In this study, results obtained using various “irregular bouncing” models based on the impulse equations for a particle—wall collision are considered and compared with experimental observations. The wall roughness is simulated by assuming that the particle collides with a virtual wall which has a randomly distributed inclination with respect to the plane, smooth wall. A Gaussian distribution for this random inclination showed the best agreement with experimental results. Numerical predictions of a turbulent two—phase flow in a vertical channel, where the particle phase is treated using a Lagrangian approach, showed that the different models applied for a particle-wall collision have a strong effect on the particle velocity fluctuations and the mass flux profiles in the region of fully developed flow. The numerical simulations using the irregular bouncing models yielded considerably higher values for the particle velocity fluctuations, which also agreed better with the experimental values. This effect was most pronounced for large particles, where the distance they need to respond to the fluid flow is larger than the characteristic dimension of the confinement. On the other hand, the motion of small particles is less affected by the choice of the wall-collision model. These effects of the wall roughness on the velocity fluctuations of the dispersed phase have not been considered in previous studies using irregular bouncing models.  相似文献
