Hydrogen, which can be produced by water electrolysis, can play an important role as an alternative to conventional fuels. It is regarded as a potential future energy carrier. Photovoltaic arrays can be used in supplying the water electrolysis systems by their energy requirements. The use of photovoltaic energy in such systems is very suitable where the solar hydrogen energy systems are considered one of the cleanest hydrogen production technologies, where the hydrogen is obtained from sunlight by directly connecting the photovoltaic arrays and the hydrogen generator. This paper presents a small PV power system for hydrogen production using the photovoltaic module connected to the hydrogen electrolyzer with and without maximum power point tracker. The experimental results developed good results for hydrogen production flow rates, in the case of using maximum power point tracker with respect to the directly connected electrolyzer to the photovoltaic modules.  相似文献

The integration of significant amounts of renewable-storage hybrid power generation systems to the electric grid poses a unique set of challenges to utilities and system operators. This article deals with the designing methodology of an intelligent control based grid-connected a hybrid system composed of renewable energy source (RES) and storage system (SS). RES is a photovoltaic (PV) source and SS is a process of hydrogen transformation system (H2TS) which composed of alkaline water electrolysis (AWE) for decomposition water by using the PV power, a tank used for gas storage and a proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cell (FC) to transform the H2 to the electrical energy. The interconnection of the grid with the power generation system (PGS) is ensured through using a DC/AC hysteresis converter and it can synchronize current with the grid voltage among an independent control of active (P) and reactive (Q) power through a possibility of the Q compensation. In the proposed system, three algorithms are applied; two used inside generation and the third is used inside the grid. Perturb and observe (P&O) maximum power point tracking (MPPT) control algorithm always finds optimal power in the PV generator. A simple cascade controls loop of DC-DC boost converter and operate the FC generator to ensure maximum power and to regulate the DC Bus voltage. In addition, adaptive fuzzy logic control (FLC) unit is developed to control the DC/AC inverter, with adopting an off-line optimization based on genetic algorithms (GAs) applauded for tune different issues as scaling factors of the FLC and PIDs gains of the PV and the H2TS control loops. Simulated results prove a big success of the proposed controls of the grid connected the hybrid PV-H2TS with good performance.  相似文献

This paper presents comparative performance analysis of photovoltaic (PV) hydrogen production using water, methanol and hybrid sulfur (SO2) electrolysis processes. Proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolysers are powered by grid connected PV system. In this system design, electrical grid is considered as a virtual energy storage system (VESS) where the surplus of PV production can be injected and subsequently taken to support the electrolyser. Methanol (ME) and hybrid sulfur (HSE) electrolysis are compared to the conventional water electrolysis (WE) in term of operating cell voltage. Based on the experimental results reported in the literature, semi-empirical models describing the relationship between the hydrogen production rate and the electrolyser cell power input are proposed. Furthermore, power and hydrogen management strategy (PHMS) is developed. Case study is carried out to show the impact of each type of electrolysis on the system component sizes and evaluate the hydrogen production potentialities. Results show that the use of ME allows to produce 65% more hydrogen than with using WE. Moreover, the amount of hydrogen produced is almost double in the case of HSE. At Algiers city, based on a grid connected PV/Electrolyser system, it is possible to produce about 25 g/m2 d and 29 g/m2 d of hydrogen, respectively, through ME and HSE compared to 15 g/m2 d of hydrogen when using WE.  相似文献

A technico-economic analysis based on integrated modeling, simulation, and optimization approach is used in this study to design an off grid hybrid solar PV/Fuel Cell power system. The main objective is to optimize the design and develop dispatch control strategies of the standalone hybrid renewable power system to meet the desired electric load of a residential community located in a desert region. The effects of temperature and dust accumulation on the solar PV panels on the design and performance of the hybrid power system in a desert region is investigated. The goal of the proposed off-grid hybrid renewable energy system is to increase the penetration of renewable energy in the energy mix, reduce the greenhouse gas emissions from fossil fuel combustion, and lower the cost of energy from the power systems. Simulation, modeling, optimization and dispatch control strategies were used in this study to determine the performance and the cost of the proposed hybrid renewable power system. The simulation results show that the distributed power generation using solar PV and Fuel Cell energy systems integrated with an electrolyzer for hydrogen production and using cycle charging dispatch control strategy (the fuel cell will operate to meet the AC primary load and the surplus of electrical power is used to run the electrolyzer) offers the best performance. The hybrid power system was designed to meet the energy demand of 4500 kWh/day of the residential community (150 houses). The total power production from the distributed hybrid energy system was 52% from the solar PV, and 48% from the fuel cell. From the total electricity generated from the photovoltaic hydrogen fuel cell hybrid system, 80.70% is used to meet all the AC load of the residential community with negligible unmet AC primary load (0.08%), 14.08% is the input DC power for the electrolyzer for hydrogen production, 3.30% are the losses in the DC/AC inverter, and 1.84% is the excess power (dumped energy). The proposed off-grid hybrid renewable power system has 40.2% renewable fraction, is economically viable with a levelized cost of energy of 145 $/MWh and is environmentally friendly (zero carbon dioxide emissions during the electricity generation from the solar PV and Fuel Cell hybrid power system).  相似文献

Hydrogen used as an energy carrier and chemical element can be produced by several processes such as gasification of coal and biomass, steam reforming of fossil fuel and electrolysis of water. Each of these methods has its own advantage and disadvantage. Electrolysis process is seen as the best option for quick hydrogen production. Hydrogen generation by methanol electrolysis process (MEP) gained much attention since it guarantees high purity gas and can be compatible with renewable energies. Furthermore, due to its very low theoretical potential (0.02 V), MEP can save more than 65% of electrical energy required to produce 1 kg of hydrogen compared to water electrolysis process (WEP). Electrolytic hydrogen production using solar photovoltaic (PV) energy is positioned to become as one of the preferred options due to the harmful environmental impacts of widely used methane steam reforming process and also since the prices of PV modules are more competitive. In this paper, hydrogen production by MEP using PV energy is investigated. A design of an off grid PV/battery/MethElec system is proposed. Mathematical models of each component of the system are presented. Semi-empirical relationship between hydrogen production rate and power consumption at 80 °C and 4 M concentration is developed. Optimal power and hydrogen management strategy (PHMS) is designed to achieve high system efficiency and safe operation. Case studies are carried out on two tilts of PV array: horizontal and tilted at 36° using measured meteorological data of solar irradiation and ambient temperature of Algiers site. Simulation results reveal great opportunities of hydrogen production using MEP compared to the WEP with 22.36 g/m2 d and 24.38 g/m2 d of hydrogen when using system with horizontal and tilted PV array position, respectively.  相似文献

In this paper, modeling, control and power management (PM) of hybrid Photovoltaic Fuel cell/Battery bank system supplying electric vehicle is presented. The HPS is used to produce energy without interruption. It consists of a photovoltaic generator (PV), a proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC), and a battery bank supplying an electric vehicle of 3 kW. In our work, PV and PEMFC systems work in parallel via DC/DC converter and the battery bank is used to store the excess of energy. The mathematical model topology and it power management of HPS with battery bank system supplying electric vehicle (EV) are the significant contribution of this paper. Obtained results under Matlab/Simulink and some experimental ones are presented and discussed.  相似文献

There is an increasing need for new and greater sources of energy for future global transportation applications. One recognized possibility for a renewable, clean source of transportation fuels is solar radiation collected and converted into useable forms of electrical and/or chemical (hydrogen) energy. This paper describes methods for utilizing and combining existing technologies into systems that optimize solar energy collection and conversion into useful transportation fuels. Photovoltaic (PV)-electrolysis (solar hydrogen) and PV-battery charging systems described in this paper overcome inefficiencies inherent in past concepts, where DC power from the PV system was first converted to AC current and then used to power electrical devices at the point of generation, or fed back to the grid to reduce electricity costs. These past, non-optimized concepts included efficiency losses in power conversion and unnecessary costs. These drawbacks can be avoided by capitalizing on the unique feature of solar photovoltaic devices that match their maximum power point to the operating point of an electrolyzer or a battery charger without intervening power transformers. This concept is illustrated for two systems designed, built, and tested by General Motors for fueling a fuel cell electric vehicle and charging an automotive propulsion battery. Based on this research, we propose a scenario in which individual home-owners, businesses, or sites at remote locations with no grid electricity, can capture solar energy, store it as hydrogen generated via water electrolysis, or as electrical energy used to charge storage batteries. Such a decentralized energy system provides a home refueling option for drivers who only travel limited distances each day.  相似文献

Hybrid renewable energy systems (HRES) should be designed appropriately with an adequate combination of different renewable sources and various energy storage methods to overcome the problem of intermittency of renewable energy resources. Focusing on the inevitable impact on the grid caused by strong randomicity and apparent intermittency of photovoltaic (PV) generation system, modeling and control strategy of pure green and grid-friendly hybrid power generation system based on hydrogen energy storage and supercapacitor (SC) is proposed in this paper. Aiming at smoothing grid-connected power fluctuations of PV and meeting load demand, the alkaline electrolyzer (AE) and proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) and SC are connected to DC bus of photovoltaic grid-connected generation system. Through coordinated control and power management of PV, AE, PEMFC and SC, hybrid power generation system friendliness and active grid-connection are realized. The validity and correctness of modeling and control strategies referred in this paper are verified through simulation results based on PSCAD/EMTDC software platform.  相似文献

In this paper we present firstly the different hybrid systems with fuel cell. Then, the study is given with a hybrid fuel cell–photovoltaic generator. The role of this system is the production of electricity without interruption in remote areas. It consists generally of a photovoltaic generator (PV), an alkaline water electrolyzer, a storage gas tank, a proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC), and power conditioning units (PCU) to manage the system operation of the hybrid system. Different topologies are competing for an optimal design of the hybrid photovoltaic–electrolyzer–fuel cell system. The studied system is proposed. PV subsystem work as a primary source, converting solar irradiation into electricity that is given to a DC bus. The second working subsystem is the electrolyzer which produces hydrogen and oxygen from water as a result of an electrochemical process. When there is an excess of solar generation available, the electrolyzer is turned on to begin producing hydrogen which is sent to a storage tank. The produced hydrogen is used by the third working subsystem (the fuel cell stack) which produces electrical energy to supply the DC bus. The modelisation of the global system is given and the obtained results are presented and discussed.  相似文献

One of the main problems for renewable and other innovative energy sources is the storage of energy for sustainability. This study focuses on two different scenarios to benefit from solar energy more efficiently. Photovoltaic (PV) energy is converted to the desired voltage level using a buck converter for generating hydrogen with electrolysis process. A maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithm is used to benefit from the photovoltaic sources more efficiently. The basic electrolysis load for hydrogen production needs low voltage and high current and controlled sensitively to supply these conditions. The photovoltaic powered buck converter for electrolysis load was simulated in MATLAB/Simulink software using a perturb and observe (P and O) MPPT algorithm and PI controller. The simulation results show that in normal, short circuit and open circuit working conditions the PV and load voltages are stabilized. The efficiency of the proposed system is reached more than 90% for high irradiance levels.  相似文献

The objective of this paper is to mathematically model a stand-alone renewable power system, referred to as “Photovoltaic–Fuel Cell (PVFC) hybrid system”, which maximizes the use of a renewable energy source. It comprises a photovoltaic generator (PV), a water electrolyzer, a hydrogen tank, and a proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cell generator. A multi-domain simulation platform Simplorer is employed to model the PVFC hybrid systems. Electrical power from the PV generator meets the user loads when there is sufficient solar radiation. The excess power from the PV generator is then used for water electrolysis to produce hydrogen. The fuel cell generator works as a backup generator to supplement the load demands when the PV energy is deficient during a period of low solar radiation, which keeps the system's reliability at the same level as for the conventional system. Case studies using the present model have shown that the present hybrid system has successfully tracked the daily power consumption in a typical family. It also verifies the effectiveness of the proposed management approach for operation of a stand-alone hybrid system, which is essential for determining a control strategy to ensure efficient and reliable operation of each part of the hybrid system. The present model scheme can be helpful in the design and performance analysis of a complex hybrid-power system prior to practical realization.  相似文献

From the perspective of global warming mitigation and depletion of energy resources, renewable energy such as wind generation (WG) and photovoltaic generation (PV) are getting attention in distribution systems. Additionally, all-electric apartment houses or residence such as DC smart houses are increasing. However, due to the fluctuating power from renewable energy sources and loads, supply-demand balancing of power system becomes problematic. Smart grid is a solution to this problem. This paper presents a methodology for optimal operation of a smart grid to minimize the interconnection point power flow fluctuation. To achieve the proposed optimal operation, we use distributed controllable loads such as battery and heat pump. By minimizing the interconnection point power flow fluctuation, it is possible to reduce the electric power consumption and the cost of electricity. This system consists of photovoltaic generator, heat pump, battery, solar collector, and load. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed system, results are used in simulation presented.  相似文献

This paper has performed an assessment of lifecycle (as known as well-to-wheels, WTW) greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and energy consumption of a fuel cell vehicle (FCV). The simulation tool MATLAB/Simulink is employed to examine the real-time behaviors of an FCV, which are used to determine the energy efficiency and the fuel economy of the FCV. Then, the GREET (Greenhouse gases, Regulated Emissions, and Energy use in Transportation) model is used to analyze the fuel-cycle energy consumption and GHG emissions for hydrogen fuels. Three potential pathways of hydrogen production for FCV application are examined, namely, steam reforming of natural gas, water electrolysis using grid electricity, and water electrolysis using photovoltaic (PV) electricity, respectively. Results show that the FCV has the maximum system efficiency of 60%, which occurs at about 25% of the maximum net system power. In addition, the FCVs fueled with PV electrolysis hydrogen could reduce about 99.2% energy consumption and 46.6% GHG emissions as compared to the conventional gasoline vehicles (GVs). However, the lifecycle energy consumption and GHG emissions of the FCVs fueled with grid-electrolysis hydrogen are 35% and 52.8% respectively higher than those of the conventional GVs. As compared to the grid-based battery electric vehicles (BEVs), the FCVs fueled with reforming hydrogen from natural gas are about 79.0% and 66.4% in the lifecycle energy consumption and GHG emissions, respectively.  相似文献

Hydrogen is regarded as a potential future energy carrier. It can be produced by the electrolysis of water with the required power supplied by a photovoltaic module. The hydrogen in this study was produced using a hydrogen generator with a solid polymer electrolyte. The required power was supplied by a photovoltaic module rated at 3.4 V, 27.45 A. The experimental system was designed and constructed so that the photovoltaic module was directly coupled to the hydrogen generator. The system characteristics: quantity of hydrogen produced, current/voltage output characteristics of the PV module, PV module and H2 generator temperatures were measured and analyzed. A method to design a solar hydrogen energy system, providing the most cost effective hydrogen generation, was developed. In this method, the design point is chosen based on the irradiance during system operation under rated capacity. The data supplied by the experimental system clearly showed the importance of considering the ratio of photovoltaic module cost to hydrogen generator cost when designing an optimum solar hydrogen system.  相似文献

In stand-alone photovoltaic (PV) systems, when the battery is fully charged, the excess generated power is wasted. To solve the problems of wasted excess power, a distributed flexible network photovoltaic (DFNPV) system is studied. It incorporates many PV subsystems each consisting of PV panel, DC/DC converter, and load, and are connected to each other with shared batteries. The excess generated power of the subsystem is transferred between PV subsystems to compensate the lack of power in other subsystems. The control method of transferring power is based on simple voltage control of the subsystems. The output voltage in a given subsystem decreases if a transient excessive load is larger than the generated power; as a result excess power is transferred from another subsystem that has sufficient power and higher voltage output. In this study, this proposed operation method is demonstrated by simulation of power transfer between two subsystems and among four subsystems. Furthermore, to estimate the size of the DFNPV system within an acceptable voltage drop, the relationships between cable length, power loss, and cable types are discussed.  相似文献

Renewable energy sources have been taken the place of the traditional energy sources and especially rapidly developments of photovoltaic (PV) technology and fuel cell (FC) technology have been put forward these renewable energy sources (RES) in all other RES. PV systems have been started to be used widely in domestic applications connected to electrical grid and grid connected PV power generating systems have become widespread all around the world. On the other hand, fuel cell power generating systems have been used to support the PV generating so hybrid generation systems consist of PV and fuel cell technology are investigated for power generating. In this study, a grid connected fuel cell and PV hybrid power generating system was developed with Matlab Simulink. 160 Wp solar module was developed based on solar module temperature and solar irradiation by using real data sheet of a commercial PV module and then by using these modules 800 Wp PV generator was obtained. Output current and voltage of PV system was used for input of DC/DC boost converter and its output was used for the input of the inverter. PV system was connected to the grid and designed 5 kW solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) system was used for supporting the DC bus of the hybrid power generating system. All results obtained from the simulated hybrid power system were explained in the paper. Proposed model was designed as modular so designing and simulating grid connected SOFC and PV systems can be developed easily thanks to flexible design.  相似文献

The production of green hydrogen from renewable energy by means of water electrolysis is a promising approach to support energy sector decarbonization. This paper presents a techno-economic model of plants with PV sources connected to electrolysis in self-consumption regime that considers the dynamics of electrolysis systems. The model calculates the optimal hourly dispatch of the electrolysis system including the operational states (production, standby, and idle), the load factor in production, and the energy imports and exports to the electricity grid. Results indicate that the model is a useful decision support tool to operate electrolysis plants connected to PV plants in self-consumption regimes with the target of reducing hydrogen production costs.  相似文献

Hydrogen will become a dominant energy carrier in the future and the efficiency and lifetime cost of its production through water electrolysis is a major research focus. Alongside efforts to offer optimum solutions through plant design and sizing, it is also necessary to develop a flexible virtualised replica of renewable hydrogen plants, that not only models compatibility with the “plug-and-play” nature of many facilities, but that also identifies key elements for optimisation of system operation. This study presents a model for a renewable hydrogen production plant based on real-time historical and present-day datasets of PV connected to a virtualised grid-connected AC microgrid comprising different technologies of batteries, electrolysers, and fuel cells. Mathematical models for each technology were developed from chemical and physical metrics of the plant. The virtualised replica is the first step toward the implementation of a digital twin of the system, and accurate validation of the system behaviour when updated with real-time data. As a case study, a solar hydrogen pilot plant consisting of a 60 kW Solar PV, a 40 kW PEM electrolyser, a 15 kW LIB battery and a 5 kW PEM fuel cell were simulated and analysed. Two effective operational factors on the plant's performance are defined: (i) electrolyser power settings to determine appropriate hydrogen production over twilight periods and/or overnight and (ii) a user-defined minimum threshold for battery state of charge to prevent charge depletion overnight if the electrolyser load is higher than its capacity. The objective of this modelling is to maximise hydrogen yield while both loss of power supply probability (LPSP) and microgrid excess power are minimised. This analysis determined: (i) a hydrogen yield of 38–39% from solar DC energy to hydrogen energy produced, (ii) an LPSP <2.6 × 10?4 and (iii) < 2% renewable energy lost to the grid as excess electricity for the case study.  相似文献

This paper presents experimental evaluations for variation in the efficiency of energy extracted from a photovoltaic (PV) module (under non-linear loading) incorporated with an incremental conductance(IC) maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithm. The focus is on the evaluation of the PV panel under non-linear loading conditions using the experimental installation of a 100Wp photovoltaic array connected to a DC–DC converter and a KVA inverter feeding a non-linear load. Under the conditions of non-linear loading, both the simulation and experiment show that the MPPT technique fails to attain maximum power point due to the presence of ripples in the current leading eventually to a reduction in efficiency. In this paper, panel current is taken as a function of load impedance in the MPPT algorithm to eradicate power variation, as load impedance varies with supply voltage under non-linear conditions. The system is simulated for different non-linear loads using MATLAB-Simulink. A TMDSSOLAREXPKIT was used for MPPT control. In case 2, the inverter is connected to a single phase grid. When a voltage swell occurs in the grid, PV power drops. This power loss is reduced using the proposed MPPT method. The results of simulations and experimental measurements and cost efficiency calculations are presented.  相似文献
