Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol design plays a very important role in the design of wireless networks. In this paper, we propose a new MAC protocol to provide real-time service for a CDMA wireless network. This protocol has been designed based on the distributed queuing random access protocol for CDMA wireless networks (DQRAP/CDMA). As real-time scheduling schemes have been introduced into the protocol design, the new protocol has an ability to accommodate real-time traffic in the CDMA wireless networks. A series of simulation experiments have been carried out to evaluate the performance of the proposed protocol. The results reveal that the proposed protocol can efficiently provide real-time service to the traffic composed of time constrained messages in the CDMA wireless networks.  相似文献

Future third-generation mobile communication systems will need multi-access control (MAC) protocols suitable for multimedia code division multiple access (CDMA) radio communications. Distributed queueing random access protocol (DQRAP)/CDMA is a general purpose MAC protocol oriented to the CDMA environment. Analytical model expressions and computer simulations have shown its capacity to achieve near-optimum performance under heterogeneous traffic scenarios in a unicellular environment. A cellular environment has been designed to verify that DQPAP/CDMA maintains its near-optimum performance in a packet switched mobile communication system. A new handover technique based on the protocol is proposed to further improve the system performance  相似文献

Token-passing medium access control (MAC) protocols are gaining interest among wireless ad hoc network researchers as they provide unrivaled advantages over the existing IEEE 802.11 standards. This paper introduces a hybrid token-code division multiple access (CDMA) MAC protocol that is based on a token-passing scheme with the incorporation of CDMA. With its unique CDMA feature, the proposed MAC is able to support multiple simultaneous transmissions. The proposed protocol provides both quality of service (QoS) and high network resource utilization while ensuring the stability of the network. This paper examines the performance of the proposed MAC scheme by simulation and compares its performance against that of other MAC protocols that have appeared in the literature. Simulation results demonstrate that our proposed MAC scheme is effective in decreasing the packet delay and significantly shortens the length of the queue. The input traffic model used in the simulation is a two-state Markov-Modulated Poisson Process (MMPP). The data rate QoS is enforced by implementing a modified leaky bucket mechanism in the proposed MAC scheme. The simulation also takes into account channel link errors caused by the wireless link by implementing a multilayered Gilbert-Elliot model.  相似文献

Medium access control (MAC) protocol is among the most active topics of research in ad hoc networks. With the CDMA-based MAC protocol the code allocation plays an important role and has significant impact on the protocol performance. In this paper, we propose a distributed CDMA code assignment protocol for the mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs). The protocol is mainly composed of (1) a modified busy tone signaling mechanism that protects on-going data transmission as well as distributes code usage information, and (2) a set of specially designed code selection rules that work by taking into consideration whether relevant nodes are in the transmitting or receiving state. By combining the two proposed schemes with the conventional request-to-send (RTS)/clear-to-send (CTS) dialogue and power control mechanism, our protocol is able to increase CDMA code reusability. The simulation results indicate that the proposed protocol indeed performs better than the static and dynamic code assignment methods (either with or without power control) in terms of successful transmission rate and successful code assignment rate. And instead of sending continuously, the proposed modified busy tone mechanism only issues busy tone signal in randomly selected cycles, which may save battery energy as compared to conventional busy tone implementations. Moreover, the proposed code selection rules and the modified busy tone signaling may also be integrated into existing MAC protocols, either separately or in combination.  相似文献

In this paper we propose high throughput collision free, mobility adaptive and energy efficient medium access protocol (MAC) called Collision Free Mobility Adaptive (CFMA) for wireless sensor networks. CFMA ensures that transmissions incur no collisions, and allows nodes to undergo sleep mode whenever they are not transmitting or receiving. It uses delay allocation scheme based on traffic priority at each node and avoids allocating same backoff delay for more than one node unless they are in separate clusters. It also allows nodes to determine when they can switch to sleep mode during operation. CFMA for mobile nodes provides fast association between the mobile node and the cluster coordinator. The proposed MAC performs well in both static and mobile scenarios, which shows its significance over existing MAC protocols proposed for mobile applications. The performance of CFMA is evaluated through extensive simulation, analysis and comparison with other mobility aware MAC protocols. The results show that CFMA outperforms significantly the existing CSMA/CA, Sensor Mac (S-MAC), Mobile MAC (MOB-MAC), Adaptive Mobility MAC (AM-MAC), Mobility Sensor MAC (MS-MAC), Mobility aware Delay sensitive MAC (MD-MAC) and Dynamic Sensor MAC (DS-MAC) protocols including throughput, latency and energy consumption.  相似文献

One of the most challenging issues facing vehicular networks lies in the design of an efficient MAC protocol due to the mobile nature of nodes and the interference associated with the dynamic environment. Moreover delay constraints for safety applications add complexity and latency requirements to the design. Existing MAC protocols overcome some challenges however don’t provide an integrated solution. Hence, the merit if this work lies in designing an efficient MAC protocol that incorporates various VANet’s challenges in a complete end-to-end solution. In this work, we propose an efficient Multichannel QoS Cognitive MAC (MQOG). MQOG assesses the quality of channel prior to transmission employing dynamic channel allocation and negotiation algorithms to achieve significant increase in channel reliability, throughput and delay constraints while simultaneously addressing Quality of Service. The uniqueness of MQOG lies in making use of the free unlicensed bands. The proposed protocols were implemented in OMNET++ 4.1, and extensive experiments demonstrated a faster and more efficient reception of safety messages compared to existing VANet MAC Protocols. Finally, improvements in delay, packet delivery ratios and throughput were captured.  相似文献

This paper presents and analyzes a new near-optimum medium access control (MAC) protocol. The proposed access scheme is suitable for a CDMA mobile communication environment, and keeps under control and upper bounded the number of simultaneous transmissions. It has a delay performance approaching that of an ideal optimum M/M/K system, where K is the number of spreading codes being used (maximum number of simultaneous transmissions). The protocol is a free random access protocol when the traffic load is light, and switches smoothly and automatically to a reservation protocol when traffic load becomes heavier. It is based on distributed queues and a collision resolution algorithm. Moreover, a physical receiver structure is proposed and analyzed in order to preserve the robustness of the protocol in a wireless link. The results obtained show that the protocol outperforms other well known medium access protocols in terms of stability and delay, even when taking into account the loss caused by channel propagation conditions  相似文献

For efficient code sharing among users, a wireless medium access control (MAC) protocol for CDMA networks is proposed, which supports connection-oriented, as well as connectionless, services and provides the various bit rates needed for the integrated multimedia services. The proposed MAC protocol allows mobile terminals to use multiple slots and spreading codes based on contention and reservation. Optimum frequency resources are allocated to the connection-oriented and connectionless services with various bit rates. Waiting and response times in the first contention are reduced, and the overall mean delay time is typically minimized in the case of connectionless bulky traffic  相似文献

Cluster Based Routing Protocol for Mobile Nodes in Wireless Sensor Network   总被引:1,自引:1,他引:0
Mobility of sensor nodes in wireless sensor network (WSN) has posed new challenges particularly in packet delivery ratio and energy consumption. Some real applications impose combined environments of fixed and mobile sensor nodes in the same network, while others demand a complete mobile sensors environment. Packet loss that occurs due to mobility of the sensor nodes is one of the main challenges which comes in parallel with energy consumption. In this paper, we use cross layer design between medium access control (MAC) and network layers to overcome these challenges. Thus, a cluster based routing protocol for mobile sensor nodes (CBR-Mobile) is proposed. The CBR-Mobile is mobility and traffic adaptive protocol. The timeslots assigned to the mobile sensor nodes that had moved out of the cluster or have not data to send will be reassigned to incoming sensor nodes within the cluster region. The protocol introduces two simple databases to achieve the mobility and traffic adaptively. The proposed protocol sends data to cluster heads in an efficient manner based on received signal strength. In CBR-Mobile protocol, cluster based routing collaborates with hybrid MAC protocol to support mobility of sensor nodes. Schedule timeslots are used to send the data message while the contention timeslots are used to send join registration messages. The performance of proposed CBR-Mobile protocol is evaluated using MATLAB and was observed that the proposed protocol improves the packet delivery ratio, energy consumption, delay and fairness in mobility environment compared to LEACH-Mobile and AODV protocols.  相似文献

This paper proposes a novel joint clustering and multi-channel medium access control (MAC) protocol for mobile ad hoc networks, based on a scalable two-phase coding scheme. It employs the first-phase codes for differentiating the clusters and the second-phase codes for distinguishing the nodes in a specific cluster. The proposed protocol effectively integrates the procedure of code assignment with dynamic clustering and henceforth substantially reduces the control overhead of code assignment in a code division multiple access (CDMA) based multi-channel MAC protocol while simultaneously combating the hidden terminal problem. Furthermore, the confliction detection and resolution mechanism for the allocation of the first-phase codes as well as the collision avoidance mechanism for the allocation of the second-phase codes in the control channel are also introduced. Analytical framework and extensive simulation results, in terms of control overhead and delay, are provided and compared to the traditional distributed CDMA based multichannel MAC algorithms with or without clustering.  相似文献

To enable multimedia real-time applications over next-generation wireless code-division multiple access (CDMA) packet-switching networks, previous efforts show a proper scheduling policy is the key to provide delay-guaranteed access services to various traffic types with different bit error rate (BER) requirements. Considering the support of the prevailing Internet protocol (IP) with variable-length packets in future mobile networks, we develop a mathematically delay-optimal medium access control (MAC) protocol over multicode CDMA (MC-CDMA) environments under the continuous-time assumption. From our investigations, we suggest that a good MAC protocol should be designed by using a proper single-server scheduling policy to guarantee packet-delay, and controlling the maximal number of simultaneous spreading-code transmissions to maintain the required BER. We further evaluate the performance of some MC-CDMA MAC protocols supporting QoS on BER and packet-delay, and show that MAC schemes conforming to our design rules give better performance on packet-delay when maintaining acceptable BER of various traffic types.  相似文献

In classical code division multiple access (CDMA) based multi-channel medium access control (MAC) protocols for mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs), numerous exchanges of neighborhood information are required for code assignment such that nodes within a two-hop separation will adopt different transmission codes and therefore avoid the hidden terminal problem (HTP). However, such expensive communication overhead for code assignment is not desirable since it will cause an under-utilization of bandwidth, energy inefficiency and longer delays, which can significantly degrade the network performance. In this paper, a novel location-aware multi-channel MAC protocol is presented for a large-scale dense MANETs based on a scalable two-phase coding scheme, where the first-phase code is used for differentiating adjacent cells and the second-phase code is employed for distinguishing nodes in one specific cell. A node knows its first-phase code from its location information and requests its second-phase code from its cell leaden. This protocol eliminates the HTP during data transmission without the periodical exchange of neighborhood information. Furthermore, the mechanism of collision resolution in the control channel is described. The performance of the proposed protocol is analyzed in terms of the control overhead and delay. The theoretical results are confirmed by extensive simulations and it is shown that the new protocol significantly outperforms the classical CDMA-based multi-channel MAC protocols  相似文献

The emerging vehicular networks are targeted to provide efficient communications between mobile vehicles and fixed roadside units (RSU), and support mobile multimedia applications and safety services with diverse quality of service (QoS) requirements. In this paper, we propose a busy tone based medium access control (MAC) protocol with enhanced QoS provisioning for life critical safety services. By using busy tone signals for efficient channel preemption in both contention period (CP) and contention free period (CFP), emergency users can access the wireless channel with strict priority when they compete with multimedia users, and thus achieve the minimal access delay. Furthermore, through efficient transmission coordination on the busy tone channel, contention level can be effectively reduced, and the overall network resource utilization can be improved accordingly. We then develop an analytical model to quantify the medium access delay of emergency messages. Extensive simulations with Network Simulator (NS)-2 validate the analysis and demonstrate that the proposed MAC can guarantee reliable and timely emergency message dissemination in a vehicular network.

This paper proposes a new multi-channel Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol named as Dual Reservation Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) based MAC protocol with Power Control (DRCPC). The code channel is divided into common channel, broadcast channel and several data channels. And dynamic power control mechanism is implemented to reduce near-far interference. Compared with IEEE 802.11 Distributed Coordination Function (DCF) protocol, the results show that the proposed mechanism improves the average throughput and limits the transmission delay efficiently.  相似文献

Providing support for TCP with good quality link connection is a key issue for future wireless networks in which Internet access is going to be one of the most important data services. A number of schemes have been proposed in literature to improve the TCP performance over wireless links. In this paper, we study the performance of a particular combination of link layer protocol (e.g., radio link protocol or RLP) and MAC retransmissions to support the TCP connections over third generation (3G) wireless CDMA networks. We specifically investigate two metrics - the packet error rate and the delay provided by RLP and MAC retransmissions - both of which are important for TCP performance. For independent and identically distributed (i.i.d) error channels, we propose an analytical model for RLP performance with MAC retransmission. The segmentation of TCP/IP packets into smaller RLP frames, as well as the RLP buffering process, is modeled using a Markov chain. For correlated fading channels, we introduce an analytical metric called RLP retransmission efficiency. We show that: 1) the RLP frame size has significant impact on the overall 3G system performance, 2) MAC layer retransmissions significantly improve the TCP performance, and 3) the RLP retransmission scheme performs better in highly correlated channels, while other scheme performs better in low correlated channels. Simulation results also confirm these conclusions.  相似文献
