Given a graph \(G=(V,E,D,W)\), the generalized covering salesman problem (CSP) is to find a shortest tour in G such that each vertex \(i\in D\) is either on the tour or within a predetermined distance L to an arbitrary vertex \(j\in W\) on the tour, where \(D\subset V\),\(W\subset V\). In this paper, we propose the online CSP, where the salesman will encounter at most k blocked edges during the traversal. The edge blockages are real-time, meaning that the salesman knows about a blocked edge when it occurs. We present a lower bound \(\frac{1}{1 + (k + 2)L}k+1\) and a CoverTreeTraversal algorithm for online CSP which is proved to be \(k+\alpha \)-competitive, where \(\alpha =0.5+\frac{(4k+2)L}{OPT}+2\gamma \rho \), \(\gamma \) is the approximation ratio for Steiner tree problem and \(\rho \) is the maximal number of locations that a customer can be served. When \(\frac{L}{\texttt {OPT}}\rightarrow 0\), our algorithm is near optimal. The problem is also extended to the version with service cost, and similar results are derived.  相似文献

Let \(G=G(V,E)\) be a graph. A proper coloring of G is a function \(f:V\rightarrow N\) such that \(f(x)\ne f(y)\) for every edge \(xy\in E\). A proper coloring of a graph G such that for every \(k\ge 1\), the union of any k color classes induces a \((k-1)\)-degenerate subgraph is called a degenerate coloring; a proper coloring of a graph with no two-colored \(P_{4}\) is called a star coloring. If a coloring is both degenerate and star, then we call it a degenerate star coloring of graph. The corresponding chromatic number is denoted as \(\chi _{sd}(G)\). In this paper, we employ entropy compression method to obtain a new upper bound \(\chi _{sd}(G)\le \lceil \frac{19}{6}\Delta ^{\frac{3}{2}}+5\Delta \rceil \) for general graph G.  相似文献

For a graph G, \(\alpha '(G)\) is the matching number of G. Let \(k\ge 2\) be an integer, \(K_{n}\) be the complete graph of order n. Assume that \(G_{1}, G_{2}, \ldots , G_{k}\) is a k-decomposition of \(K_{n}\). In this paper, we show that (1)
$$\begin{aligned} \left\lfloor \frac{n}{2}\right\rfloor \le \sum _{i=1}^{k} \alpha '(G_{i})\le k\left\lfloor \frac{n}{2}\right\rfloor . \end{aligned}$$
(2) If each \(G_{i}\) is non-empty for \(i = 1, \ldots , k\), then for \(n\ge 6k\),
$$\begin{aligned} \sum _{i=1}^{k} \alpha '(G_{i})\ge \left\lfloor \frac{n+k-1}{2}\right\rfloor . \end{aligned}$$
(3) If \(G_{i}\) has no isolated vertices for \(i = 1, \ldots , k\), then for \(n\ge 8k\),
$$\begin{aligned} \sum _{i=1}^{k} \alpha '(G_{i})\ge \left\lfloor \frac{n}{2}\right\rfloor +k. \end{aligned}$$
The bounds in (1), (2) and (3) are sharp. (4) When \(k= 2\), we characterize all the extremal graphs which attain the lower bounds in (1), (2) and (3), respectively.

We consider the online (over time) scheduling on a single unbounded parallel-batch machine with job processing time compatibilities to minimize makespan. In the problem, a constant \(\alpha >0\) is given in advance. Each job \(J_{j}\) has a normal processing time \(p_j\). Two jobs \(J_i\) and \(J_j\) are compatible if \(\max \{p_i, p_j\} \le (1+\alpha )\cdot \min \{p_i, p_j\}\). In the problem, mutually compatible jobs can form a batch being processed on the machine. The processing time of a batch is equal to the maximum normal processing time of the jobs in this batch. For this problem, we provide an optimal online algorithm with a competitive ratio of \(1+\beta _\alpha \), where \(\beta _\alpha \) is the positive root of the equation \((1+\alpha )x^{2}+\alpha x=1+\alpha \).  相似文献

A paired-dominating set of a graph G is a dominating set of vertices whose induced subgraph has a perfect matching, while the paired-domination number is the minimum cardinality of a paired-dominating set in the graph, denoted by \(\gamma _{pr}(G)\). Let G be a connected \(\{K_{1,3}, K_{4}-e\}\)-free cubic graph of order n. We show that \(\gamma _{pr}(G)\le \frac{10n+6}{27}\) if G is \(C_{4}\)-free and that \(\gamma _{pr}(G)\le \frac{n}{3}+\frac{n+6}{9(\lceil \frac{3}{4}(g_o+1)\rceil +1)}\) if G is \(\{C_{4}, C_{6}, C_{10}, \ldots , C_{2g_o}\}\)-free for an odd integer \(g_o\ge 3\); the extremal graphs are characterized; we also show that if G is a 2 -connected, \(\gamma _{pr}(G) = \frac{n}{3} \). Furthermore, if G is a connected \((2k+1)\)-regular \(\{K_{1,3}, K_4-e\}\)-free graph of order n, then \(\gamma _{pr}(G)\le \frac{n}{k+1} \), with equality if and only if \(G=L(F)\), where \(F\cong K_{1, 2k+2}\), or k is even and \(F\cong K_{k+1,k+2}\).  相似文献

The status of a vertex v in a connected graph G is the sum of the distances between v and all the other vertices of G. The subgraph induced by the vertices of minimum (maximum) status in G is called median (anti-median) of G. Let \(H=(G_1,G_2,r)\) denote a graph with \(G_1\) as the median and \(G_2\) as the anti-median of H, \(d(G_1,G_2)=r\) and both \(G_1\) and \(G_2\) are convex subgraphs of H. It is known that \((G_1,G_2,r)\) exists for every \(G_1\), \(G_2\) with \(r \ge \left\lfloor diam(G_1)/2\right\rfloor +\left\lfloor diam(G_2)/2\right\rfloor +2\). In this paper we show the existence of \((G_1,G_2,r)\) for every \(G_1\), \(G_2\) and \(r \ge 1\). We also obtain a sharp upper bound for the maximum status difference in a graph G.  相似文献

The matching problem is one of the most studied combinatorial optimization problems in the context of extended formulations and convex relaxations. In this paper we provide upper bounds for the rank of the sum-of-squares/Lasserre hierarchy for a family of matching problems. In particular, we show that when the problem formulation is strengthened by incorporating the objective function in the constraints, the hierarchy requires at most \(\left\lceil \frac{k}{2} \right\rceil \) levels to refute the existence of a perfect matching in an odd clique of size \(2k+1\).  相似文献

A hamiltonian walk of a digraph is a closed spanning directed walk with minimum length in the digraph. The length of a hamiltonian walk in a digraph D is called the hamiltonian number of D, denoted by h(D). In Chang and Tong (J Comb Optim 25:694–701, 2013), Chang and Tong proved that for a strongly connected digraph D of order n, \(n\le h(D)\le \lfloor \frac{(n+1)^2}{4} \rfloor \), and characterized the strongly connected digraphs of order n with hamiltonian number \(\lfloor \frac{(n+1)^2}{4} \rfloor \). In the paper, we characterized the strongly connected digraphs of order n with hamiltonian number \(\lfloor \frac{(n+1)^2}{4} \rfloor -1\) and show that for any triple of integers n, k and t with \(n\ge 5\), \(n\ge k\ge 3\) and \(t\ge 0\), there is a class of nonisomorphic digraphs with order n and hamiltonian number \(n(n-k+1)-t\).  相似文献

A vertex subset S of a digraph D is called a dominating set of D if every vertex not in S is adjacent from at least one vertex in S. The domination number of D, denoted by \(\gamma (D)\), is the minimum cardinality of a dominating set of D. The Slater number \(s\ell (D)\) is the smallest integer t such that t added to the sum of the first t terms of the non-increasing out-degree sequence of D is at least as large as the order of D. For any digraph D of order n with maximum out-degree \(\Delta ^+\), it is known that \(\gamma (D)\ge \lceil n/(\Delta ^++1)\rceil \). We show that \(\gamma (D)\ge s\ell (D)\ge \lceil n/(\Delta ^++1)\rceil \) and the difference between \(s\ell (D)\) and \(\lceil n/(\Delta ^++1)\rceil \) can be arbitrarily large. In particular, for an oriented tree T of order n with \(n_0\) vertices of out-degree 0, we show that \((n-n_0+1)/2\le s\ell (T)\le \gamma (T)\le 2s\ell (T)-1\) and moreover, each value between the lower bound \(s\ell (T)\) and the upper bound \(2s\ell (T)-1\) is attainable by \(\gamma (T)\) for some oriented trees. Further, we characterize the oriented trees T for which \(s\ell (T)=(n-n_0+1)/2\) hold and show that the difference between \(s\ell (T)\) and \((n-n_0+1)/2\) can be arbitrarily large. Some other elementary properties involving the Slater number are also presented.  相似文献

For a given graph and an integer t, the MinMax 2-Clustering problem asks if there exists a modification of a given graph into two maximal disjoint cliques by inserting or deleting edges such that the number of the editing edges incident to each vertex is at most t. It has been shown that the problem can be solved in polynomial time for \(t<n/4\), where n is the number of vertices. In this paper, we design parameterized algorithms for different ranges of t. Let \(k=t-n/4\). We show that the problem is polynomial-time solvable when roughly \(k<\sqrt{n/32}\). When \(k\in o(n)\), we design a randomized and a deterministic algorithm with sub-exponential time parameterized complexity, i.e., the problem is in SUBEPT. We also show that the problem can be solved in \(O({2}^{n/r}\cdot n^2)\) time for \(k<n/12\) and in \(O(n^2\cdot 2^{3n/4+k})\) time for \(n/12\le k< n/4\), where \(r=2+\lfloor (n/4-3k-2)/(2k+1) \rfloor \ge 2\).  相似文献

The concept of k-connectivity \(\kappa '_{k}(G)\) of a graph G, introduced by Chartrand in 1984, is a generalization of the cut-version of the classical connectivity. Another generalized connectivity of a graph G, named the generalized k-connectivity \(\kappa _{k}(G)\), mentioned by Hager in 1985, is a natural generalization of the path-version of the classical connectivity. In this paper, we get the lower and upper bounds for the difference of these two parameters by showing that for a connected graph G of order n, if \(\kappa '_k(G)\ne n-k+1\) where \(k\ge 3\), then \(0\le \kappa '_k(G)-\kappa _k(G)\le n-k-1\); otherwise, \(-\lfloor \frac{k}{2}\rfloor +1\le \kappa '_k(G)-\kappa _k(G)\le n-k\). Moreover, all of these bounds are sharp. Some specific study is focused for the case \(k=3\). As results, we characterize the graphs with \(\kappa '_3(G)=\kappa _3(G)=t\) for \(t\in \{1, n-3, n-2\}\), and give a necessary condition for \(\kappa '_3(G)=\kappa _3(G)\) by showing that for a connected graph G of order n and size m, if \(\kappa '_3(G)=\kappa _3(G)=t\) where \(1\le t\le n-3\), then \(m\le {n-2\atopwithdelims ()2}+2t\). Moreover, the unique extremal graph is given for the equality to hold.  相似文献

Given a vertex-weighted undirected connected graph \(G = (V, E, \ell , \rho )\), where each edge \(e \in E\) has a length \(\ell (e) > 0\) and each vertex \(v \in V\) has a weight \(\rho (v) > 0\), a subset \(T \subseteq V\) of vertices and a set S containing all the points on edges in a subset \(E' \subseteq E\) of edges, the generalized absolute 1-center problem (GA1CP), an extension of the classic vertex-weighted absolute 1-center problem (A1CP), asks to find a point from S such that the longest weighted shortest path distance in G from it to T is minimized. This paper presents a simple FPTAS for GA1CP by traversing the edges in \(E'\) using a positive real number as step size. The FPTAS takes \(O( |E| |V| + |V|^2 \log \log |V| + \frac{1}{\epsilon } |E'| |T| {\mathcal {R}})\) time, where \({\mathcal {R}}\) is an input parameter size of the problem instance, for any given \(\epsilon > 0\). For instances with a small input parameter size \({\mathcal {R}}\), applying the FPTAS with \(\epsilon = \Theta (1)\) to the classic vertex-weighted A1CP can produce a \((1 + \Theta (1))\)-approximation in at most O(|E| |V|) time when the distance matrix is known and \(O(|E| |V| + |V|^2 \log \log |V|)\) time when the distance matrix is unknown, which are smaller than Kariv and Hakimi’s \(O(|E| |V| \log |V|)\)-time algorithm and \(O(|E| |V| \log |V| + |V|^3)\)-time algorithm, respectively.  相似文献

We study the maximum coverage problem with group budget constraints (MCG). The input consists of a ground set X, a collection \(\psi \) of subsets of X each of which is associated with a combinatorial structure such that for every set \(S_j\in \psi \), a cost \(c(S_j)\) can be calculated based on the combinatorial structure associated with \(S_j\), a partition \(G_1,G_2,\ldots ,G_l\) of \(\psi \), and budgets \(B_1,B_2,\ldots ,B_l\), and B. A solution to the problem consists of a subset H of \(\psi \) such that \(\sum _{S_j\in H} c(S_j) \le B\) and for each \(i \in {1,2,\ldots ,l}\), \(\sum _{S_j \in H\cap G_i}c(S_j)\le B_i\). The objective is to maximize \(|\bigcup _{S_j\in H}S_j|\). In our work we use a new and improved analysis of the greedy algorithm to prove that it is a \((\frac{\alpha }{3+2\alpha })\)-approximation algorithm, where \(\alpha \) is the approximation ratio of a given oracle which takes as an input a subset \(X^{new}\subseteq X\) and a group \(G_i\) and returns a set \(S_j\in G_i\) which approximates the optimal solution for \(\max _{D\in G_i}\frac{|D\cap X^{new}|}{c(D)}\). This analysis that is shown here to be tight for the greedy algorithm, improves by a factor larger than 2 the analysis of the best known approximation algorithm for MCG.  相似文献

In many fault detection problems, we want to identify all defective items from a set of n items using the minimum number of tests. Group testing is for the scenario where each test is on a subset of items, and tells whether the subset contains at least one defective item or not. In practice, the number d of defective items is often unknown in advance. In this paper, we propose a randomized group testing procedure RGT for the scenario where the number d of defectives is unknown in advance, and prove that RGT is competitive. By incorporating numerical results, we obtain improved upper bounds on the expected number of tests performed by RGT, for \(1\le d\le 10^6\). In particular, for \(1\le d\le 10^6\) and the special case where n is a power of 2, we obtain an upper bound of \(d\log \frac{n}{d}+Cd+O(\log d)\) with \(C\approx 2.67\) on the expected number of tests performed by RGT, which is better than the currently best upper bound in Cheng et al. (INFORMS J Comput 26(4):677–689, 2014). We conjecture that the above improved upper bounds based on numerical results from \(1\le d\le 10^6\) actually hold for all \(d\ge 1\).  相似文献

A 2-distance k-coloring of a graph G is a proper k-coloring such that any two vertices at distance two get different colors. \(\chi _{2}(G)\)=min{k|G has a 2-distance k-coloring}. Wegner conjectured that for each planar graph G with maximum degree \(\Delta \), \(\chi _2(G) \le 7\) if \(\Delta \le 3\), \(\chi _2(G) \le \Delta +5\) if \(4\le \Delta \le 7\) and \(\chi _2(G) \le \lfloor \frac{3\Delta }{2}\rfloor +1\) if \(\Delta \ge 8\). In this paper, we prove that: (1) If G is a planar graph with maximum degree \(\Delta \le 5\), then \(\chi _{2}(G)\le 20\); (2) If G is a planar graph with maximum degree \(\Delta \ge 6\), then \(\chi _{2}(G)\le 5\Delta -7\).  相似文献

An r-acyclic edge coloring of a graph G is a proper edge coloring such that any cycle C has at least \(\min \{|C|,r\}\) colors. The least number of colors needed for an r-acyclic edge coloring of G is called the r-acyclic edge chromatic number or the r-acyclic chromatic index of G, denoted by \(A'_{r}\left( G\right) \). In this paper, we study the r-acyclic edge chromatic number with \(r\ge 4\) and prove that \(A'_{r}\left( G\right) \le 2\Delta ^{\lfloor \tfrac{r}{2}\rfloor }+O\left( \Delta ^{\tfrac{r+1}{3}}\right) \). We also prove that when r is even, \(A'_{r}\left( G\right) \le \Delta ^{\tfrac{r}{2}}+O\left( \Delta ^{\tfrac{r+1}{3}}\right) \), which is asymptotically optimal. In addition, we investigate how the r-acyclic edge chromatic number performs as the girth increases. It is proved in this paper that for every graph G with girth at least \(2r-1\), \(A'_r\left( G\right) \le \left( 9r-7\right) \Delta +10r-12\) holds. Our approach is based on the entropy compression method.  相似文献

Bipartite matching is an important problem in graph theory. With the prosperity of electronic commerce, such as online auction and AdWords allocation, bipartite matching problem has been extensively studied under online circumstances. In this work, we study the online weighted bipartite matching problem in adversary model, that is, there is a weighted bipartite graph \(G=(L,R,E)\) and the left side L is known as input, while the vertices in R come one by one in an order arranged by the adversary. When each vertex in R comes, its adjacent edges and relative weights are revealed. The algorithm should irreversibly decide whether to match this vertex to an unmatched neighbor in L with the objective to maximize the total weight of the obtained matching. When the weights are unbounded, the best algorithm can only achieve a competitive ratio \(\varTheta \left( \frac{1}{n}\right) \), where n is the number of vertices coming online. Thus, we mainly deal with two variants: the bounded weight problem in which all weights are in the range \([\alpha , \beta ]\), and the normalized summation problem in which each vertex in one side has the same total weights. We design algorithms for both variants with competitive ratio \(\varTheta \left( \max \left\{ \frac{1}{\log \frac{\beta }{\alpha }},\frac{1}{n}\right\} \right) \) and \(\varTheta \left( \frac{1}{\log n}\right) \) respectively. Furthermore, we show these two competitive ratios are tight by providing the corresponding hardness results.  相似文献

For \(S\subseteq G\), let \(\kappa (S)\) denote the maximum number r of edge-disjoint trees \(T_1, T_2, \ldots , T_r\) in G such that \(V(T_i)\cap V(T_j)=S\) for any \(i,j\in \{1,2,\ldots ,r\}\) and \(i\ne j\). For every \(2\le k\le n\), the k-connectivity of G, denoted by \(\kappa _k(G)\), is defined as \(\kappa _k(G)=\hbox {min}\{\kappa (S)| S\subseteq V(G)\ and\ |S|=k\}\). Clearly, \(\kappa _2(G)\) corresponds to the traditional connectivity of G. In this paper, we focus on the structure of minimally 2-connected graphs with \(\kappa _{3}=2\). Denote by \(\mathcal {H}\) the set of minimally 2-connected graphs with \(\kappa _{3}=2\). Let \(\mathcal {B}\subseteq \mathcal {H}\) and every graph in \(\mathcal {B}\) is either \(K_{2,3}\) or the graph obtained by subdividing each edge of a triangle-free 3-connected graph. We obtain that \(H\in \mathcal {H}\) if and only if \(H\in \mathcal {B}\) or H can be constructed from one or some graphs \(H_{1},\ldots ,H_{k}\) in \(\mathcal {B}\) (\(k\ge 1\)) by applying some operations recursively.  相似文献

Barrier coverage, as one of the most important applications of wireless sensor network (WSNs), is to provide coverage for the boundary of a target region. We study the barrier coverage problem by using a set of n sensors with adjustable coverage radii deployed along a line interval or circle. Our goal is to determine a range assignment \(\mathbf {R}=({r_{1}},{r_{2}}, \ldots , {r_{n}})\) of sensors such that the line interval or circle is fully covered and its total cost \(C(\mathbf {R})=\sum _{i=1}^n {r_{i}}^\alpha \) is minimized. For the line interval case, we formulate the barrier coverage problem of line-based offsets deployment, and present two approximation algorithms to solve it. One is an approximation algorithm of ratio 4 / 3 runs in \(O(n^{2})\) time, while the other is a fully polynomial time approximation scheme (FPTAS) of computational complexity \(O(\frac{n^{2}}{\epsilon })\). For the circle case, we optimally solve it when \(\alpha = 1\) and present a \(2(\frac{\pi }{2})^\alpha \)-approximation algorithm when \(\alpha > 1\). Besides, we propose an integer linear programming (ILP) to minimize the total cost of the barrier coverage problem such that each point of the line interval is covered by at least k sensors.  相似文献

Consider a scheduling problem in which a set of tasks needs to be scheduled on m parallel processors. Each task \(T_i\) consists of a set of jobs with interjob communication demands, represented by a weighted, undirected graph \(G_i\). The processors are assumed to be interconnected by a shared communication channel, which can be used by jobs to communicate among each other while being processed in parallel. In each time step, the scheduler assigns jobs to the processors and allows any processed job to use a certain capacity of the channel in order to satisfy (parts of) its communication demands to adjacent jobs processed in the same step. The goal is to find a schedule with minimum length in which the communication demands of all jobs are satisfied. We show that this problem is NP-hard in the strong sense even if the number of processors is constant and the underlying graph is a single path or a forest with arbitrary constant maximum degree. Consequently, we design and analyze approximation algorithms with asymptotic approximation ratio \(\min \{1.8, 1.5 \frac{m}{m-1}\}+1\) if the underlying graph G, the union of the \(G_i\), is a forest. For general graphs it is \(\min \left\{ 1.8, \frac{1.5m}{m-1}\right\} \cdot \left( \text {arb}(G) + \frac{5}{3}\right) \), where \(\text {arb}(G)\) denotes the arboricity of G.  相似文献
