The formation of porous glass ceramic via core/shell-structured poly(methyl methacrylate)(PMMA)/powder glass was investigated. Core/shell structures were prepared via ultrasonic irradiation in high-pressure liquid carbon dioxide (CO2) using PMMA microspheres as the core material and glass powder as the shell material. The mean particles sizes of PMMA template microspheres and glass powder were 9.8 μm and 0.9 μm, respectively. After removal of the PMMA template by calcination in air, porous glass was obtained. The products were characterized by scanning electronic microscopy (SEM) and thermogravimetric-differential thermal analysis (TG-DTA). The average pore diameter of porous glass was 4.3 μm. Compared with porous glass prepared by the other method, the porous glass prepared by ultrasonic irradiation of liquid CO2 was achieved the narrow pore size distribution (CV = 35%) and the higher porosity (89%). The pores are not isolated and connected each other. Furthermore, the effects of experimental conditions, such as coating method, crosslink density of the template PMMA microspheres, ultrasonic intensity and calcination temperature, on the product morphology were investigated. The higher ultrasound intensity achieved the uniform coating of PMMA templates with powder glass. The calcination temperature and crosslinked density of PMMA template microspheres affect the pore structure.  相似文献

Poly(L ‐lactic acid) (PLLA), poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL), and their films without or blended with 50 wt% poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) were prepared by solution casting. Porous films were obtained by water‐extraction of PEG from solution‐cast phase‐separated PLLA‐blend‐PCL‐blend‐PEG films. The effects of PLLA/PCL ratio on the morphology of the porous films and the effects of PLLA/PCL ratio and pores on the physical properties and biodegradability of the films were investigated. The pore size of the blend films decreased with increasing PLLA/PCL ratio. Polymer blending and pore formation gave biodegradable PLLA‐blend‐PCL materials with a wide variety of tensile properties with Young's modulus in the range of 0.07–1.4 GPa and elongation at break in the range 3–380%. Pore formation markedly increased the PLLA crystallinity of porous films, except for low PLLA/PCL ratio. Polymer blending as well as pore formation enhanced the enzymatic degradation of biodegradable polyester blends. Copyright © 2006 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

Shearing of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA)/single wall carbon nanotube (SWNT) dispersions result in the formation of self-assembled oriented PVA/SWNT fibers or ribbons, while PVA solution results in the formation of unoriented fibers. Diameter/width and length of these self-assembled fibers was 5-45 μm and 0.5-3 mm, respectively. High-resolution transmission electron micrographs showed well resolved PVA (200) lattice with molecules oriented parallel to the nanotube axis. Nanotube orientation in the self-assembled fibers was also determined from Raman spectroscopy. PVA fibers exhibited about 48% crystallinity, while crystallinity in PVA/SWNT fibers was 84% as determined by wide angle X-ray diffraction. PVA and carbon nanotubes were at an angle of 25-40° to the self-assembled fiber axis. In comparison to PVA, PVA/SWNT samples exhibited significantly enhanced electron beam radiation resistance. This study shows that single wall carbon nanotubes not only nucleate polymer crystallization, but also act as a template for polymer orientation.  相似文献

This paper reports on the foaming of poly(?-caprolactone-co-lactide) in carbon dioxide and carbon dioxide + acetone mixtures. Experiments were carried out in specially designed molds with porous metal surfaces and fluid circulation features to generate foams with uniform dimensions at 60, 70 and 80 °C at pressures in the range 7-28 MPa. Depending upon the conditions, foams with pores in the range from 5 to 200 μm were generated. Adding acetone to carbon dioxide improved the uniformity of the pores compared to foams formed by carbon dioxide alone. In addition, a unique high-pressure solution extrusion system was designed and used to form porous tubular constructs by piston-extrusion of a solution from a high-pressure dissolution chamber through an annular die into a second chamber maintained at controlled pressure/temperature and fluid conditions. Long uniform porous tubular constructs with 6 mm ID and 1 mm wall thickness were generated with glassy polymers like poly(methyl methacrylate) by extruding solutions composed of 50 wt% polymer + 50 wt% acetone, or 25 wt% polymer + 10% acetone + 65% carbon dioxide at 70 °C and 28 MPa. Pores were in the 50 μm range. The feasibility of forming similar tubular constructs were demonstrated with poly(?-caprolactone-co-lactide) as well. Tubular foams of the copolymer with interconnected pores with pore sizes in the 50 μm range were generated by extrusion of the copolymer solution composed of 25 wt% polymer + 10 wt% acetone + 65 wt% carbon dioxide at 70 °C and 28 MPa. Reducing the acetone content in the solution led to a reduction of pore sizes. Comparisons with the foaming behavior of the homopolymer poly(?-caprolactone) that were carried out in the molds with porous metal plates show that the foaming behavior of the copolymer is more akin to the foaming behavior of the caprolactone homopolymer component.

Porous carbons with high surface area were successfully prepared from thermoplastic precursors, such as poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA), hydroxyl propyl cellulose and poly(ethylene terephthalate), by the carbonization of a mixture with MgO at 900 °C in an inert atmosphere. After carbonization the MgO was dissolved out using a diluted sulfuric acid and the carbons formed were isolated. The mixing of the PVA carbon precursor with the MgO precursors (reagent grade MgO, magnesium acetate or citrate) was done either in powder form or in an aqueous solution. The BET surface area of the carbons obtained via solution mixing could reach a very high value, such as 2000 m2/g, without any activation process. The pore structure of the resultant carbons was found to depend strongly on the mixing method; the carbons prepared via solution mixing were rich in mesopores, but those produced via powder mixing were rich in micropores. The size of mesopores was found to be almost the same as that of the MgO particles, suggesting a way of controlling the mesopore size in the resultant carbons. Measurement of capacitance was carried out in 1 mol/L H2SO4 electrolyte. The porous carbon with a BET surface area of 1900 m2/g prepared at 900 °C through solution mixing of Mg acetate with PVA showed a fairly high EDLC capacitance, about 250 F/g with a current density of 20 mA/g and 210 F/g with 1000 mA/g. The rate performance was closely related to the mesoporous surface area.  相似文献

Surfactant-free biodegradable porous microspheres of methoxy poly(ethylene glycol)-b-poly(?-caprolactone-co-d,l-lactide) (MPEG-b-PCLDLL) diblock copolymers were prepared by a simple melt dispersion method in water at 80 °C with magnetic stirring. Any organic solvents and surfactants can be neglected for this method. Different CL/DLL ratios in the MPEG-b-PCLDLL were investigated for preparation of the porous microspheres. It was found that microsphere sizes decreased and surface pore sizes increased as the increasing DLL ratio. The pores were well interconnected throughout the microsphere matrices for all MPEG-b-PCLDLLs. The larger pore sizes can be obtained when the PEG was blended with diblock copolymer before preparation of porous blended microspheres. Possible mechanisms for formation of the porous microspheres with and without PEG blending were also proposed.  相似文献

The blends of poly(l-lactide) (PLLA) with poly(butylene succinate) (PBS) and poly(butylene succinate-co-l-lactate) (PBSL) containing the lactate unit of ca. 3 mol% were prepared by melt-mixing and subsequent injection molding, and their mechanical properties, morphology, and crystallization behavior have been compared. Dynamic viscoelasticity and SEM measurements of the blends revealed that the extent of the compatibility of PBSL and PBS with PLLA is almost the same, and that the PBSL and PBS components in the blends with a low content of PBSL or PBS (5-20 wt%) are homogenously dispersed as 0.1−0.4 μm particles. The tensile strength and modulus of the blends approximately followed the rule of mixtures over the whole composition range except that those of PLLA/PBS 99/1 blend were exceptionally higher than those of pure PLLA. All the blends showed considerably higher elongation at break than pure PLLA, PBSL, and PBS. Differential scanning calorimetric analysis of the blends revealed that the isothermal and non-isothermal crystallization of the PLLA component is promoted by the addition of a small amount of PBSL, while the addition of PBS was much less effective.  相似文献

Porous CaSiO3 bioceramics with open and unidirectional macro-channels of pore size more than 200 μm are of particular interest for biomedical applications. An ice/fiber-templated method was employed for the fabrication of CaSiO3 bioceramics with interconnected lamellar pores and macro-channels of pore size more than 200 μm. The pores formed by ice crystals transformed from cellular to lamellar, while the pores formed by fibers were aligned macro-channels, which were also in alignment with the lamellar pores. Keeping the initial slurry concentration constant and increasing the packing density of fibers, the volume fraction of macro-channels and open porosity increased, and the compressive strength decreased. Maintaining the packing density of fibers and increasing the initial slurry concentration, the pore sizes of lamellar pores and open porosity decreased, and the compressive strength increased. The results indicated that it was possible to manufacture porous CaSiO3 bioceramics with the macro-channels of 250–350 μm, lamellae spacing of 50–100 μm, open porosity of 71.12–83.94% and compressive strength of 0.87–3.59 MPa, indicating the suitability for tissue engineering.  相似文献

Fabrication of high strength PVA/SWCNT composite fibers by gel spinning   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
High-strength composite fibers were prepared from polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) (Degree of polymerization: 1500) reinforced by single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) containing few defects. The SWCNTs were dispersed in a 10 wt.% PVA/dimethylsulfoxide solution using a mechanical homogenizer that reduced the size of SWCNT aggregations to smaller bundles. The macroscopically homogeneous dispersion was extruded into cold methanol to form fibers by gel spinning followed by a hot-drawing. The tensile strength of the well-oriented composite fibers with 0.3 wt.% SWCNTs was 2.2 GPa which is extremely high value among PVA composite fibers ever reported using a commercial grade PVA. The strength of neat PVA fibers prepared by the same procedure was 1.7 GPa. Structural analysis showed that the PVA component in the composite fibers possessed almost the same structure as that of neat PVA fibers. Hence a small amount of SWCNTs straightforward enhanced by 0.5 GPa the tensile strength of PVA fibers. The results of mechanical properties and Raman spectra for the SWCNT composites suggest the relatively good interfacial adhesion of the nanotubes and PVA that improves the load transfer from the polymer matrix to the reinforcing phase.  相似文献

Highly crosslinked monodisperse porous poly(divinylbenzene) (PDVB) microspheres were prepared by distillation-precipitation polymerization in acetonitrile containing up to 25 vol% of toluene as porogen with 2,2′-azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) as initiator in the absence of any stabilizer or surfactant. The porous polymer microspheres were formed through a precipitation manner during the distillation of the solvent from the reaction system. Monodisperse porous polymer particles with spherical shape and smooth surface were synthesized with diameters in the range of 1.86 and 3.06 μm, total porosity of up to 0.30 cm3/g and specific surface area as high as 762 m2/g. The growth procedure of porous PDVB microsphere was characterized by SEM technique for morphological observation and isotherm nitrogen adsorption for the determination of the special surface area and porosity. The resultant porous polymer microspheres had a novel structure with the gradual increasing of pore volume during distillation of the solvent out of the reaction system.  相似文献

Both poly(l-lactide) (PLLA) and poly(ethylene succinate) (PES) are biodegradable semicrystalline polyesters. The disadvantages of poor mechanical properties and slow crystallization rate of PLLA limit its wide application. Fully biodegradable polymer blends were prepared by blending PLLA with PES. Miscibility, crystallization behavior, and mechanical properties of PLLA/PES blends were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), polarizing optical microscopy (POM), wide angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and tensile tests in this work. Experimental results indicated that PLLA was immiscible with PES. Crystallization of PLLA/PES blends was studied by DSC using two-step crystallization condition and analyzed by the Avrami equation. The crystallization rate of PLLA at 100 °C was accelerated with the increase of PES in the blends while the crystallization mechanism did not change. In the case of the isothermal crystallization of PES at 67.5 °C, the crystallization mechanism did not change, and the crystallization rate decreased with the increase of PLLA. The mechanical properties of PLLA/PES blends were examined by tensile testing. The elongation at break of PLLA was improved significantly in the blends, while its considerably high Young's modulus was still kept. SEM images of fracture surfaces indicated that the fracture behavior of PLLA/PES blends changed from brittle fracture to ductile fracture behavior in the blends.  相似文献

A regular and well-interconnected macroporous (from 50 to 200 μm) poly(d,l-lactic acid-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) scaffold was fabricated by means of the thermally induced phase separation (TIPS) method. Poly(l-lactic acid) (PLLA) was blended with PLGA to increase the viscosity of polymer solution; a block copolymer of poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) with PLGA was added as a surfactant to decrease the interfacial tension between the polymer-rich and polymer-lean phases. The effect of TIPS parameters including the concentration of diblock copolymer and PLGA/PLLA ratio was also studied. The cloud-point curve shifted to higher temperatures with both increasing the PLLA composition in the PLGA/PLLA blend and the PEG contents in the additives (PEG itself and PEG-PLGA diblocks). This shifting to higher temperature increases the quenching depth during phase separation. Addition of a PEG-PLGA diblock copolymer (0.5 wt% in solution) to the PLGA/PLLA (1/1) blend polymer in a dioxane/water solution stabilized the morphology development during TIPS with respect to interconnection and macropores, and avoided segregation or sedimentation in the late stage.  相似文献

There is a technological need for highly porous bioceramics to be produced in an environmentally friendly manner. Gel-casting of highly porous HAp-(α-TCP) (CaP) foams using agarose as a gelling agent was investigated. Foaming of gel-cast suspension was performed at the temperature of 60 °C followed by transformation of the foams from a liquid state to a gelled state by cooling them to 15 °C. The sintered (1250 °C, 2 h soaking time) foams were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), N2 adsorption isoterm and Hg porosimetry. XRD study revealed that additives used in the gel-casting process did not influence the phase composition of the investigated materials. The macroporous microstructure of HAp-(α-TCP) foams was typically composed of approximately spherical pores (cells) interconnected by circular windows. The foams exhibited a broad pore size distribution with cells and windows ranging from 250 to 900 μm, and from 25 to 250 μm, respectively. The mode for spherical pore size was approximately 500 μm while the above value for window was ∼100 μm. Additionally, the small amount of wall microporosity in the range of 0.2–0.9 μm was confirmed by SEM and Hg porosimetry. The obtained porous (P = 90%) HAp-(α-TCP) scaffolds with interesting two types of macropores and a small amount of micropores seem to be a promising bone substitution material.  相似文献

In this study, poly(l-lactic acid) (PLLA) fibers were prepared by the dry-wet-spinning method, while chitosan (CHS) fibers were prepared via the wet-spinning method. The two fibers were blend spun and then fabricated into PLLA/CHS fabrics. In vitro degradation experiments of the fabrics were carried out in a phosphate-buffered solution at 37 °C with a pH of 7.4. Changes in molecular parameters (molecular weights and molecular weight distributions), phase structures (crystallinities), morphologies (fiber surface topologies) of the PLLA fibers, and their macroscopic properties (the fabric weight losses and mechanical strengths) were monitored with degradation times. These results were compared with control samples with no degradation. The hydrolysis mechanism of PLLA/CHS fabrics was analyzed. It was found that the degradation rate of dry-wet-spun PLLA fibers was higher than those of the melt-spun or dry-spun ones. Furthermore, the compatibility between PLLA/CHS fabrics and osteoblast under the in vitro degradation was investigated for the potential application of using the PLLA/CHS fabrics as supporting materials for chest walls and bones. Cell strain hFOB1.19 human SV40-transfected osteoblast and PLLA/CHS mixed fabrics were incubated. The cell morphology at early stages of cultivation was also studied. Excellent adhesion between osteoblast and PLLA/CHS fabrics was observed, indicating good biocompatibility of the fabrics with osteoblast.  相似文献

This paper describes the manufacture of tubular UF and MF porous and supported ceramic membranes to oil/water emulsions demulsification. For such a purpose, a rigorous control was realized over the distribution and size of pores. Suspensions at 30 vol.% of solids (zirconia or alumina powder and sucrose) and 70 vol.% of liquids (isopropyl alcohol and PVB) were prepared in a jar mill varying the milling time of the sucrose particles, according to the pores size expected. The membranes were prepared by isostatic pressing method and structurally characterized by SEM, porosimetry by mercury intrusion and measurements of weight by immersion. The morphological characterization of the membranes identified the formation of porous zirconia and alumina membranes and supported membranes. The results of porosimetry analysis by mercury intrusion presented an average pore size of 1.8 μm for the microfiltration porous membranes and for the ultrafiltration supported membranes, pores with average size of 0.01-0.03 μm in the top-layer and 1.8 μm in the support. By means of the manufacture method applied, it was possible to produce ultra and microfiltration membranes with high potential to be applied to the separation of oil/water emulsions.  相似文献

Electrospinning of polymer melts: Phenomenological observations   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
Melt electrospinning is an alternative to solution electrospinning, however, melt electrospinning has typically resulted in fibers with diameters of tens of microns. In this paper we demonstrate that polypropylene fibers can be reduced from 35 ± 8 μm in diameter, to 840 ± 190 nm with a viscosity-reducing additive. Melt electrospun blends of poly(ethylene glycol)-block-poly(?-caprolactone) (PEG47-b-PCL95) and poly(?-caprolactone) (PCL) produced fibers with micron-scale diameters (2.0 ± 0.3 μm); this was lowered to 270 ± 100 nm by using the gap method of alignment for collection. The collected melt electrospun fibers often fused together where they touched, allowing the stabilization of relatively thick non-woven felts. The melt electrospun collection also included coiled circles and looped patterns of fibers approximately 150-250 μm in diameter. The polymer jet was visible between the collector and spinneret for particularly significant lengths, and underwent coiling and buckling instabilities close to the collector. The focused deposition of melt electrospun fibers was maintained when multiple jets were observed, with the collections from multiple jets separated by 3.8 ± 0.5 mm for a 5 cm collector gap. The frequent fusion points between melt electrospun fibers, and a reduction in diameter for the gap method of alignment, indicated that the melt electrospun fibers are still slightly molten at collection.  相似文献

Miscibility and foaming of poly(l-lactic acid) (PLLA) in carbon dioxide + acetone mixtures have been explored over the temperature and pressure ranges from 60 to 180 °C and 14 to 61 MPa. Liquid-liquid phase boundaries were determined in a variable-volume view-cell for polymer concentrations up to 25 wt% PLLA and fluid mixtures containing 67-93 wt% CO2 over a temperature range from 60 to 180 °C. Even though not soluble in carbon dioxide at pressures tested, the polymer could be completely solubilized in mixtures of carbon dioxide and acetone at modest pressures.Foaming experiments were carried out in different modes. Free-expansions were carried out by exposure and swelling in pure carbon dioxide in a view-cell followed by depressurization. Foaming experiments were also carried out within the confinement of specially designed molds with porous metal surfaces as boundaries to direct the fluid escape path and to generate foams with controlled overall shape and dimensions. These experiments were conducted in pure carbon dioxide and also in carbon dioxide + acetone fluid mixtures over a wide range of temperatures and pressures. Foaming in carbon dioxide + acetone mixtures was limited to 1 and 4 wt% acetone cases. Microstructures were examined using an environmental scanning electron microscope (ESEM). Depending upon the conditions employed, pore diameters ranging from 5 to 400 μm were generated. At a given temperature, smaller pores were promoted when foaming was carried out by depressurization from higher pressures. At a given pressure, smaller pores were generated from expansions at lower temperatures. Foams with larger pores were produced in mixtures of carbon dioxide with acetone.  相似文献
