Abstract:Epoxidized Eucommia Ulmoides gum(EEUG)was used to toughen polylactic acid(PLA)by melt blending,and all bio-based PLA/EEUG blends with good toughness were prepared,the effects of EEUG amount on thermal properties,dynamic mechanical properties,mechanical properties and micro morphology of the blends were investigated.The results showed that PLA/EEUG blend was a typical two-phase incompatible system.The addition of EEUG restricted the movement of PLA molecular chain,resulting in decrease of PLA crystallinity,but promoted the improvement of its cold crystallization ability,which played the role of nucleating agent.When the amount of EEUG was 15 phr(mass),the elongation at break increased from 12%of pure PLA to 290%,and the notched impact strength increased from 4.1 kJ/m^2 to 8.0 kJ/m^2.When the blends were subjected to tension and impact,the matrix had obvious plastic deformation and absorbed conside-rable energy during fracture process,thus impro-ving the toughness of the blend.
