Experimental study on basic mechanical properties of DP-type fired perforated clay brick masonry

Abstract:The hole pattern and void ratio of DP-type fired perforated clay brick is different from that of ordinary perforated brick. To further determine the mechanical performance and deformation indexes, the static experiment on compressive and shear property of DP-type fired perforated clay brick masonry was carried, and the failure mechanism and failure characteristics were analyzed. The results show that the continuous seam is formed along the vertical direction for compressive specimens with high porosity. The compressive strength of DP1-type fired perforated brick masonry is lower than that of the DP2-type, and the variance coefficient of the DP1-type is larger too. The shear failure modes include single shear failure, double shear failure and compression failure of the brick, and the shear strength of DP1-type fired perforated brick masonry is higher than that of the DP2-type. The current code formulas were modified by using the least square method, based on which the recommended formulas for calculating average compressive strength and shear strength of DP-type fired perforated clay brick masonry were established. The calculation results show good agreement with test results. The design values of compressive strength and shear strength were derived. According to the constitutive model of reference, the calculation formulas of the stress-strain relationship and the elastic modulus were put forward, which coincide well with the experimental results.
