Direct evidence for the existence of a craze at the crack tip in environmental stress cracking of polyethylene

Liquid nitrogen fracture tests have been carried out to produce direct evidence of the existence of a voided region, the craze, ahead of the crack in environmental stress cracking of polyethylene. Evidence of crazing is presented for both low and high density polyethylenes.
