| Abstract: | From October 1987 to November 1990.42 patients had undergone thymectomy viathe sternal splitting incision and clearance of anterior mediastinum fat,and one patientwas subjected to exploration and biopsy only.The histological findings were:27 casesof thymic hyperplasia and 16 cases of thymoma.It is concluded that the transsternalapproach has the advantages of the best operative exposure which facilitates the completeresection of the thymus and clearance of the adjacent fat tissue.In this group no comp-lications occurred after operation.The surgical intervention had produced satisfyingresults. |
