Abstract: | An existing gas chromatograph/mass spectrometer (GC/MS) can be used to analyze gas and liquid fractions from the same system within a few minutes. The technique was applied to (a) separate and identify the gaseous components of the products of cracking an alkane, (b) measure trace levels of acetone in ethyl acetate, (c) determine the relative partial pressures over a binary mixture, and (d) identify nine unknown compounds for the purpose of disposal. |
