Form plus Function:Towards a Tentative Unified Theory of Linguistics

Formalism and functionalism are two influential schools in contemporary linguistics.They are to a large extent contradictory in interpretation and methodology of language;therefore it is imperative that a unified theory should be established to merge the two.The paper is a tentative study in this regard,whose objective is to establish a coherent linguistic system where the two schools are both components of one theory instead of two theories.
