Study of Emulsion Polymerization of Butadiene-Styrene in the Presence of a Highly Effective Initiator System |

| Abstract: | The emulsion polymerization of butadiene-styrene in the presence of p-CH_3-
C_6H_(10)C(CH_3)_2-OOH-FeSO_4-NaHSO_(2°)CH_2O-EDTA initiator system and the effect
of the amount of molecular weight regulator mercaptan used and that of mono-
mer conversion on polymerization were investigated.It was shown that if the the
amount of mercaptan was increased or mercaptan was added in two separate
batches the molecular weight increased slowly during the latter stage of poly-
merization and the molecular weight distribution narrowed.When the conversion
increased the styrene content in the copolymer increased and MWD widened,
but the microstructure of the butadiene unit was not affected. |
