On the Oceanic Culture Characteristics of Local Style Dwelling Architecture in Modern Chaozhou-Shantou Area

Chaozhou-Shantou Area is an important part of the areas of Guangdong, which are the home to many overseas Chinese people. Starting with the historical background against which the multiple dwelling culture in the modern Chaoshan area was formulated, this article analyzes the few cultural constituents in the traditional dwellings of Chaoshan area, including local culture, Yellow River culture and oceanic culture, and explores the integrating cultural sources of the dwellings. The combination of western and eastern culture, and the convergence of the Chinese and foreign culture constitute the oceanic culture. The impact of the oceanic culture on the culture of modern Chaoshan area is an objective fact. The modern Chaoshan dwelling culture is an important part of the modern Chinese architectural culture. It is of unique historical and cultural value. It offers enlightenment for the existence and development of the contemporary local architecture in the context of the international architectural thoughts.
