Design of A Partial Discharge Detection Method for Air Gap Defect under Special-Shaped Waves Voltage

Abstract:Aiming at exploring a convenient,accurate,nondestructive and reliable method of partial discharge(PD)detection for air gap defects,three types of special-shaped waves are designed and utilized for the PD detection of cross-linked polyethylene(XLPE)insulation material with air gap defects.Firstly,insulation samples with air gap defects are made,and the samples are tested under power frequency AC voltage. Secondly,three types of special-shaped waves are designed and output,and the same samples are tested under the special-shaped waves voltage. Finally,the results of tests under power frequency AC voltage and special-shaped waves voltage are analyzed comparatively. The results show that the asymmetric oscillation wave is the best special-shaped wave for detecting insulating samples with air gap defects,and the special-shaped wave voltage can be equivalent to power frequency AC voltage. Moreover,under the best special-shaped wave voltage,the PD inception voltage is smaller,the magnitudes of discharge are larger,the number of discharges is bigger,and the phase distribution is wider. To sum up,the specialshaped wave voltage can improve the accuracy of PD detection,and has the superior position in denoising and non-destructive detection.
