A survey of the nurse staffing in grade D and grade ID general hospitals in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region

Objective To investigate the nursing staffing and the structure,ownership relation with hospital and ethnic distribution of the nursing human resources in grade Ⅱ and grade Ⅲ general hospitals of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. Methods A total of 61 general hospitals in Xinjiang were selected by multiple - stage sampling method and surveyed by a self - designed questionnaire. Results ①The nursing human resources were inadequate,especially in the grade Ill hospitals and large hospitals. ②The structure of nurses was not reasonable. The proportion of young nurses was relatively large and the proportion of nurses who had received higher education or with senior professional titles was relatively small. ③The educational background and professional title of employed nurses were low and the treatment was not good enough. ④The shortage of minority nurses was serious and the distribution was uneven. Conclusion On the basis of guaranteeing enough number of nurses,we should optimize the structure of nursing human resources from the aspects of age, educational background ,professional title and ethnic distribution.
