| Abstract: | This paper describes the recent advances in microwave solid state power amplifier (SSPA) and its advantages over vacuum tube amplifiers. A successful application example of SSPAs in a satellite digital TV uplink earth station is given. The author believes that Travelling Wave Tube Amplifiers (TWTAs) and Klystron Power Amplifiers (KPAs) would be replaced by using SSPAs in satellite communication earth stations. |
