Abstract:Objective To assess the health risks of 8 heavy metals and harmful elements in Codonopsis pilosula by determining the contents of 37 inorganic elements in Codonopsis pilosula from different origins;To analyse the correlation between inorganic elements and the origin of Codonopsis pilosula.Methods After microwave digestion of 20 groups(47 batches)of samples,inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry(ICP-MS)was used to determine the contents of 37 inorganic elements,and the hazard coefficient and hazard index of heavy metals and harmful elements were calculated.The contents of inorganic elements were analyzed by cluster analysis,principal component analysis and partial least square discriminant analysis.Results 18 out of 20 groups of samples had acceptable health risks and 2 groups of samples had non-carcinogenic health risks.The cluster analysis showed that samples from different provinces could be clustered well;principal component analysis showed that 10 elements(Sc,La,Pr,Nd,Sm,Gd,Dy,Er,Sr,Cd)had large contribution values;the partial least squares discriminant analysis showed that 3 elements(Ba,Sr,Mn)could be the marker elements to distinguish the origins of Codonopsis pilosula.Conclusion 10%sample groups have potential health risks among the Codonopsis pilosula samples collected in this study.The chemometrics based on multi-element content is feasible for the research on Codonopsis pilosula origin analysis.
